@@jeffreyhamid...it is not just current but past led BN govt and backdoor all the same hypocrite too. That's why the 1970s NEP policies should be abolish for good. No more race quota would be better. Malaysia for all Malaysia. The very reason why LKY proposed that idea and did not got well with UMNO that led to the separation by expulsion of Singapore from the federation of Malaysia in 1965. Should remove "race" from application forms and only stick to Malaysian or Non Malaysian and the same goes with housing and social welfare matters. Just like Syed Saddiq said "needs based on income bracket" and not "race based quotas"

Malaysia is not investing in education. They invested on architecture of the university. The more and more university in the country with beautiful buildings means that we have a better education. That is a mistake. The system of education gone no where. We Bumiputera also feel that younger generation not necessarily to go to u. Among us Bumi also got the issues of bias and injustice. It is intersting to see the development from where we assumed as poorer country like Pakistan and India. They got early involvement in computer programming in secondary school and when they go to college, they already master the knowledge. You can check many students already got youtube channel educate about programming. Malaysian students enter college without knowing what they are doing. Not to mention apps programming that is beyond their expectation. So this is the point that we need to pay attention otherwise just keep our worthy investment somewhere else.

When I was in Stardard 1 Hussein Onn was Menteri Pelajaran and Dr.Suleiman Daud was its menteri when I left school. Many menteri pelajaran and "pendidikan" who come after that including a future pmx made mess of a working system. Entah apa yang dididik sampai budak-budak sekolah ada yang tak kenal Sarawak capital city pun. If there is one element in so called Bumiputera privileges that should be dismissed (long ago), it is the university admission quota. Pmx's retaliatory response to the girl was "menyakitkan hati" for non-bumis and "menyakitkan telinga" for the bumis. In the past education was made part of the country's future manpower planning. Dedication to educate our young has been long lost.

Justice also involves examining the level playing field. This consideration plays an important role in ensuring justice. Comparing excellent students from big cities, who have access to superior facilities, to students from rural areas struggling for better study facilities, is not fair. This is a point that needs clarification.
@derickhochinfai
@derickhochinfai 10 месяцев назад
Totally agree and that involves a great deal of study and methods of measurement. It boils down to education access, income and tech access. Which is not race exclusive. Issue with Malaysia is that we like to come out with all sorts of theories and hearsay without getting actual fine grain data, we always have a tendency to box up and categorize issues into race. Ie. Which race is impacted instead of which individuals, area, or micro communities are impacted. So much funds are poured into the cities to grow and grow but our suburbs and villages do not get as much focus. Which those are the people that requires government intervention the most.

I used to hv the same opinion on merit in education however when you go to the ground to see the problems facing students in less unfortunate societies ( mostly Malays) whose parents could not afford tution but did fairly well on their own i start to understand. I hv seen those who came struggling with poverty and excel when given the chance while most upper middle income students in cities were lavish with tution in every subject. I now see the fairness meant was not for what merit cannot speak for ... But i really hv to agree that in parliament we need those who are worthy and deserve to be there.

Am utterly baffled. This gentleman obviously comes from a socio economic and educational background where he would understand the subject matter to its details. Yet, this thing has been going on 5 decades or thereabouts, and to bring it up now, when the rot is deep into the woodwork and termites invaded everywhere, is bewildering. First of all, how many who agree with him will say this same thing publicly? How many have said it publicly last 50 years from the Malay community? Should not thousands or tens of thousands of educated people have been alarmed well before now at the rot and agitated, but how many have? Second, in order for Anwar to even begin to consider it, he would have to be someone with a liberal mind frame, and that he certainly is not, and two he must be a reformer, like Ataturk was, and he is a million miles away from that - Ataturk were he to return would be shocked to see what has become of his beloved country -, which simply means that reforms can only work if the underlying substance, the population and the systems are equally liberal and modern, which manifestly is NOT the case here. (Europe sidelined the power of the Church as an essential first step and replaced superstition and dogma with science and evidence, as the foundation upon which a modern society would advance). A liberal person and society is arrived at by hard and long and painful work spanning centuries. There will be very very few, even in KL who would pass the test if conducted by those from the liberal west.The people who attended the Coldplay rock concert will many of them happily and determinedly vote for extremists in elections, so what does that tell us about what is a liberal here? He is shocked by the Dewan Rakyat members but they are a perfect representation of the constituents, so why is he shocked? The nation is already embarked on to the next phase and that will be a Malays' only Federal Govt, which should come to pass by the end of this decade, and the education system will certainly be revamped, just that it will not be as this person might wish it and while his annoyance and frustration are palpable at how things are, its possible he himself knows how few of his own ilk actually would join him to remonstrate in public.

If our institutions are so good , all should do their degrees locally and studying overseas on scholarship should be for post graduate studies. As it is there are cases of scholarship students overseas who don't even complete their courses and then don't return More polytechnic and vocational institutions should be built for training in skills. It's pointless being a university graduate if one has no chance of employment.

Government universities should give places in various courses as follows. Malays 65% Other Bumi 5% Chinese 20% Indians 7% Others. 2% This is fair. Each group should have meritocracy within it.

If all those admitted are meritorious across the board and at par with each other, then yes. But if the government has to assign different cut off entry points for each group, then it's unfair to the students and damaging for then universities and the country in the long run.

The Greatest Investment Malaysia Can Make is to bring education to the masses, and not the select few who have “merit”. Education for all, and lifelong learning. Even in “advanced” countries, educational standards have fallen . Except for the Ivy League or top research based institutions, there are many universities which are paper- churning (degrees) mills. What is needed in the real world are people who can solve problems. Even those who did not produce good academic results can “excel” at something. Give late bloomers a chance. How? Short bite-size content, delivered through the internet. The technology is begging for a revolution in how “education” is delivered. Now everyone can fly, Now everyone can learn. Life-long learning for all is the way to be relevant in today’s fast changing world, not trotting out your “Oxford “ standard degree from umpteen years ago, which has gathered as much dust as your brain.

Professor, you seemed to foresee that eventually some malaysian university graduates would end up actually doing manual jobs that do not require accreditation, in some countries overseas, at the rate things are ongoing.
