How can you miss such notable film musician like Lalo Schifrin (1932 - present), Francis Lai (1932 - 2018) & Dave Grusin (1934 - present) ......?!

My Top 3 : Ennio Morricone, John Williams, James Horner. They could do anything. Hanz Zimmer always does the same thing that anyone can do.

You missed Basil Poledouris, but I am glad you had Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri and Alexandre Desplat on the list for they are some of my favourites.

OMG! I can't believe one of the greatest movie composers isn't even mentioned. Akira Ifukube wrote some really amazing music. He was a big influence on a lot of these people mentioned.

Looks like this list was compiled to reflect the eras (Golden Age 30s-1960, Silver Age 60s-80s, etc) and not the individual film composers. Should have gone at least 75 deep; alot influential film composers left out.

BOGUS Richard Rogers isn't even on the list, Hans Zimmer is 41st, Phillip Glass is in the top 10.... whoa. Happy they included a couple of Japanese composers, however!!

Where is Ramin Djawadi?

I hope we can all one day look back and agree Hans Zimmer was a hack. He enlists a team of ghost composers to help him dress up four chords on repeat with loud swells and BRAAAHHHHP effects. It's very effective, and it appeals to today's pop music tastes, but to me there's no substance. John Williams is part of the old guard that still writes the scores himself just like Brahms would've done. He's a master of melody and orchestration.
