The Hearthstone Rank Mystery 

This was done on March 30th, so the person rank was basically finalized. Let me know what you think of the idea.

Like the idea, but I was hoping you were gonna judge their ranks based on their replays

Love the idea, but I think some questions were slightly to ambiguous to work. For example everyone answered that they started playing in 2014-16 but they could have massive breaks inbetween. I also think an additional question asking for their peak rank would have been nice

I feel like a lot of people hit legend like once or twice and then can't be bothered doing the final climb from diamond 5 to legend again. So even tho they are able to play like legend level players they now chill in a lower rank and try to enjoy the game more.

I love the idea but if you do an other one of those consider adding a certain rank/peak rank question or what deck they used to get to their peak i think it would add an other layer to challenge and could be fun

Ha, thought this was going to be like that chess thing where you analyze their moves and guess their elo, but this is sick too! I was wrong on every single one of them, so you did better than me!

shouldve asked for their highest rank achieved; i assume the first person reached legend and started playing fun/off meta decks after a while

really cool idea but you definitely need either confirmation with a included screenshot or have people submit clips instead then guess based on the clip

If you weren´t climbing at the time, it is possible that one night at Kharazan was your favourite expansion. Flavour was well done and the solo adventure was fun.

I feel called out by Rarran saying you've played this long with no Gold Heroes. I've been spreading out my plays, got about 200 wins with every class beside Demon Hunter and Death Knight. Give it another 10 years and I'll have the full Golden Set.

I feel you should have specified "in terms of strength" when it came to brann, loatheb and mukla. As an example, some players may have been experienced enough to know loatheb is a 5/5 in power, but personally dislike it; so the rank it like a 3 in terms of how they feel about it overall.

I would love to feed these results to a model. That way we can immediately see what factors were most important (within this test group at least).

I’d say there is more Combo Druid possibilites out there than not. You can probably do the all the memeish combos quite easily with tha class as you can cheat mana like crazy (gloop, twig, guff, aligment), go infinite (gloop, floop, elise, brann, zola, even the new Snapshot guy) or draw your deck in a turn if needed. (composting+summons or the draw 5 spells)

The issue is that you ask for current rank, not highest attained rank, or how often they've reached legend. Maybe it just wasn't the best month for climbing. Plus the amount of golden heroes has little correlation to getting legend.

damn disapointed nobody chose shaman as favourite class. Back in the days 4 mana 7/7 caried me to legend for the first time. Now shudeer infinite loop does the same almost evry month . Very fun deck to play.

I enjoyed the video, but in order to be able to make adequate guesses, I think it should have been your best rank achieved over the whole of your playtime rather than current rank, as people who can achieve legend don’t always make it back up just as it takes time and they might just not have time to do it for a certain month for example

I always wanna be apart of stuff like this because you'd never guess my skill level at all. Like my skill ranges from among the best in the world to among the worst in the world. I love learning about every single little interaction in the games I play, but I hate playing meta. For the most part, I only play to have fun yet you'll never see me play casually. As an example, I also play a ton of Yu-Gi-Oh. In a meta where we have a tier 0 format, I'll play decks that aren't even on a tier list. They're so bad people forget they exist, yet I still hover around max rank consistently. In Hearthstone, well, I'll leave that to interpretation. But I do have 1,600+ ranked wins with Rogue. Assuming I at least have a 50% win rate, that's well over 3,200 ranked games with a single class and I've been playing for over 3 years.

21:04 I too am under 20, been playing since 2014. And have 0 golden heroes. Mostly because I love playing tavern brawls and solo adventures, standard was fun when it was more casual

If you are not prone to grind it can be really demanding to go down all the way to legend, for me it took like 3-4 months and then i just had enugh and went down with pirate rouge, but that took 2-3 days. Then with the star bonuses i was down in diamond 5 in like a week. So yea it takes a lot of time.

I think a very important question to ask is if the person has quit/taken breaks from the game. I myself have hit Legend but do not have a single golden hero. I started playing in Summer 2015 (a little before TGT came out) and stopped a bit before K&C came out, about Nov 2017. I recently got back into HS on March 2024. So I did play quite a bit, WHEN I played, but have only been an active HS player for about 2.5 yrs. I miss the old days, I loved playing Arena and watching Kripp videos. The game feels very different now.

My plan of becoming internet famous by being the funny guy on stream has been ruined. Gotta rename from Jolo to Yolo to salvage this

I think most people who played for a long time went to legend once or twice but don't bother to anymore and stop at diamond because climbing from D5 to Legend gets really repetitive and the rewards are not worth it (I think it's just an extra card pack? Or an epic card?) If I had answered this questionnaire Rarran would be bamboozled by my answers because of this. He would see all the supposed signs of a legend player and then see "diamond" as the last answer.

The Tavern Pass question might have been a little flawed, as the Tavern Pass is technically the extra thing you buy. If you don't buy it, you can't complete it. But you can complete the season rewards.

Realy fun video, tbh your survey doesnt account for ppl taking brakes from the game, maybe some ppl started in classic but missed several years than came back they would still "technically" started in classic

Actually surprising results tbh if they’re true, considering how easy it is to get legend with tier 1 decks of only you play enough, I was around since classic all the way up to the knights of the frozen throne and would always hit d5 back then because of the last straight that was a mad grind and only recently came back because of the RU-vidr above during the alterac valley and I’ve hit legend every single month since then playing the decks that were good, but not the greatest, as I’ve had more time outside of work and not much else to do. Conclusion= not skill issue, it’s time issue for most people, hearthstone is an easy game imo as I don’t consider myself very good at card games (question mark)

Maybe I'm just outing myself as a non-Legend player (to be fair, never tried, never got into Standard enough to care), but I think "kind of" is literally the only sensible answer to whether or not Hearthstone is P2W. Because in absolutely every single game mode, you will have a small advantage if you pay money, AT LEAST for the first couple weeks or months of play. Sure, if you play it as your main game and got tons of dust lying around, and can create every single card in the collection immediately, then it's no longer pay to win. But most people don't have that luxury. I also think "Yes" would be a wrong answer, because a free player can absolutely create a very competetive deck rather easily. And once you have an S-Tier deck and play that all the time, there's no longer a difference between you and a paying player. There's a ceiling to how far paying can bring you, which is atypical for a P2W game.

Bruh this would have been the hardest to fill out for me. My favorite classes and decks are all over the place. It was miracle rouge when flurry could still hit face, then kings bane rouge I think, then quest warrior, then bomb warrior and now it's rng mage xD (order might change idk when these decks were meta) and I haven't touched standard in a long time. I did get legend once or twice with kings bane rouge and then seed warlock but that was more because the deck was just good rather than me being a good player Also because I love to play rng mage and combo decks, loatheb is a 1* card, just unfun for me to play against please delete

Brann is a 5 for the stat, but like a 2 for the passive

To be honest.. from my perspective and I guess from many other players as well Bran is superb because he enables crazy plays. Loatheb is strong but boring. Also the golden hero point.. 500 wins with one class isn't that easy to do. especially when you don't stay on one class all the time. I've put so many hours in the game back in the day and still don't have 500 wins with 2 of the original classes and Shaman I just got a few days ago.

I feel offended 😂 I played the game in 2014 until mech vs gnomes. Did not play anymore only for solo modes the last 2 years. This expansion I started Standard (payed a bit on packs) and I am currently diamond 3. Of your description I should be silver :( But I am a competitive yugi Player, maybe it helps)

Idea is good but you go into these expecting they play for standard meta game and want to climb. I rated cards for design ideas and fun factor as well not only how good they are in meta.

The interaction idea is cool, however nothing here is really indicative of any ranked placement. Most people have zero idea have vicious indicate and some other questions are non-useful to a players mindset. Additionally, just because someone has a preference doesn't mean they won't work around it. I've only hit legend twice since starting to play, but if I wanted it I would spam bs agro decks nonstop. The screenshot is a cool premise, but due to how nebulous everything is with Hearthstone is as a whole, nothing can indicate a player currently legend. I mean most decks that hit it in the past few months were meta destroying agro decks with minimal skill expression and card requirements.

Man I'm such a jaded player, I only play wild and only mage so it's my only golden hero but I get legend almost every season. I do hate how much rng is in the game and that my class is the rng class especially since I fell in love with mage due to freeze mage.

"Is Hearthstone pay to win?" me with my Free to play account: yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes Look, if a dozen people keep asking me 'why don't you put ___ in your deck?' and my answer is always 'because it's not in my collection', there is some pay to win to get all the necessary legendaries to make some of these top decks. Hence why the few times I climbed ladder was due to one broken card like Caverns Below where that's the only legendary and everything else is common or core set.

Nah, I was trying wild for first time and I got into legend month 1. Probably easier because everyone is a bot though hahaha
