That engine should go into the RX7. Your grandma's car should be preserved with some modern upgrades but more like a powerfull cruiser than racecar. Keep that Montecarlo street! If you go racing the Montecarlo and wreck, wich is totaly possible, you will be gutted.

You live in Florida, most of the good drag racing happens in the winter! Build up the RX7 and race it during the drifting off season. Drift all summer, Drag for the winter. Then you can take your time to make Grandma's car exactly how you want it.

I’ve kinda changed my position, purely on the fact of the Monte Carlo being in your family. Building that level of race car would be essentially destroying the car to the point it can never return. The rx7 was purpose built. I say send it with the rx

I'm with you on this. A nice moderate horsepower LS for the Monte makes more sense. Make that functional and fun, this engine would force too many changes to the car. I figure this Monte Carlo should turn into his daily driver with an easy reliable 350 that doesn't require redoing the full suspension to put the power down

if he just wants to do 8.50's you can definitely do it without completely mutilating the monty and keeping it the same look with a minimal cage. it's when you want to get into the 7's that you have to do the fully funny car hoop and x-brace cage stuff and then at that point it's just a race car.

The monte runs, and drives and is sentimental. If you eat a wall with it you're going to be sad. The rx7 is a race car, that needs an engine. Easy choice

Amen, the Monte looks to be in good shape as well. I petsonally wouldn't mess with it TOO much, restore it, maybe engine swap at some point, but it's too clean to go chopping up into a race car

Agreed. I have a 72 Chevelle at home that I've had 30 years (since i was 14). It was a father son project. It never touches a drag strip and rarely gets driven hard for the reasons you've mentioned. I wanted to go drag racing so I bought an old Subaru wrx that i really didn't care about and stuffed a turbo LS in it. If it gets crashed, oh well... We just pull the good parts and stick them in another chassis and move on. If i did that to the Chevelle I'd be devastated

The way I see it, the RX7 is already a purpose built race car. The RX7 has also been sitting for a long time and the viewers know you don’t like cars that just sit around. The Monte already runs so the build on it could wait after the RX7. The Monte is also a nice cruiser, keep it as a nice simple hot rod that you can enjoy taking out with the family.

i'll watch either way, but if it were up to me, i'd put it in the montecarlo. the montecarlo build sounds perfect, and i get wanting to jump into a 2000 lb 1500 hp drag car on meth, but even from a youtube perspective, it's way more interesting in the long run to start from a lower point and work your way towards the bigger things. cleetus is an easy example, i've been watching him since leroy was running 9s NA, now leroy has progressed into a 6 second stick shift car, and throughout the journey each second barrier was incredibly exciting as a viewer, with different upgrades/changes needing to be made for every tenth. don't get me wrong, building a 4.50 1/8 mi car is still very sick, but so is building the most badass street car ever with some personal attachment too

I feel like putting a high HP capable motor in granny’s car (that most likely won’t get utilized in that fashion) would be a waste. It should go in the Rx7 where it would actually be used to its full capability. NASCAR engine would be sick because ffs it’s a Monte… doesn’t have to make a lot of HP but that light flywheel and fast/free revving engine would suit that car much better. NASCAR engine in the Miata doesn’t really make sense unless you’re gonna track it and grip race it and we all know it’s already limited by the tire width. Would have to wide body it to also make it worth it.

The monte carlo dream car sounds amazing, you'll just have to remind yourself over and over not to get stuck in the loop of making it faster and faster and forgetting the street car idea - so many cars end up barely driven because they're too fast! RX7 basic setup sounds like a great idea, don't pour loads of money into a crazy drag car for no reason. I reckon people would really enjoy watching you learn the ins and outs of drag racing. You already have an audience, you dont need some crazy bling setup to draw people in

IMO That engine should go in the RX7. WHY? I think the Monte Carlo should be a tamer car. Keep it around 800hp and do drag and drives with it. Yeah, you won't be in the extreme or unlimited class, but that doesn't mean you're not out racing and creating a story to tell. REASON Look at Matt from Demo Ranch. He has that Cuda on a Dually chassis that they built the motor to 11. It made it undriveable for normal use. I think if you go to 11 with the Monte Carlo you will overstep the driveability and never 'take it out for burgers' or on a Sunday drive.

From the completely bias point that I'll watch anything that you post. GM body, after-market GM engine, GM after-market parts for the rest of the Monte. What's popular is so for a reason and thus G-Body cars are the "S-chassis" of drag builds. After the Monte the RX7 becomes 1 of 2 things from my perspective. 1: Learning from this absolute beauty of an engine and the parts required to make it function, apply all of your knowledge to make a "Top Secret RX7" so to speak. 2:(Biased Favorite BTW) RX7 pivots Taylor Ray away from GM based LS engines into the inline 6 world with this blank canvas and allowing fresh new possibilities in the ever tightening emissions world :). Love the content regardless, hell I watched you swap a Miata motor over and over and it made you the cautious mechanic that you are and I strive to be.

Imagine.. you're rolling down the street thinking back to the good ole days with the fam in the Monte.. ya spin up the song Grandma would love to hear on her radio in there.. then you drop a gear and drown out that song with 1000 horses. Now if I was doing that I'd have a smile 10 miles wide. In comparison the Mazda is little more than a nice thermos or tin can right? Monte, easy choice.

I think rx7 might be the move. Drag racing will be a fun new thing to learn and I think the way that rx7 is setup with the 4 link already would be the perfect car to learn the sport with. I think you should use the big motor for the monte. Build a show car style thing because that's a car you'll never sell for sentimental reasons. Do it right the first time. Race car should be a "build from scratch and work your way up" engine package. Start with a junkyard 5.3, when that blows up, Miata motor, when that blows up, turbo truck equivalent motor, when that blows up, upgrade from there. Its a win win. Build the car for relatively cheap, at least initially. Gets you experience drag racing without killing yourself by going straight to the top for power, at least initially. Gets you experience with how to run a drag car and adjust the 4-link and whatnot before making a ton of power. Lots of fun to watch content, and relatively easy content to make. And it's the perfect car to do it in because a 600 hp turbo junkyard motor will still be fast ish in it because of how light it is

I think you have two main areas to consider. The logical side. What will be better for the channel. The build on either car will be followed. From there long term if you barely race the rx7 then you don't gain much content from it. The MC could get you cruising content. Random drag stuff, and easily 5 days per drag n drive.( you have to do drag n drive). Drag n drive events are more personal because we get to see your journey through driving the car, seeing the stops dealing with issues on the road and the racing. And it just requires one person to hang out with you versus an entire race team. Now the illogical or heart side. What car do you have more passion for? The rx seems like it's a fun project that you want to do because you think it will be fun, But based on your fear that you won't drive it much, maybe you're not as passionate about it. Now building your childhood forever car to the nines with a crazy engine. You seem to have some passion behind, so your end product will reflect that. That's my take. Also massive fan of the channel. Good luck and either way excited to see it.

I would love to see the RX7 with some weird platform engine like a Barra. Get your feet wet on drag racing and dial in the chassis with schmedium level time and money investment, just get it on the track. This first crate engine seems like the optimal upgrade for the SS Monte platform. Getting that set up as a casual drag and drive car opens up a whole new avenue of content and fun. Those weeks come off more as missions than just drag events - they make for excellent videos. If that turns out to not be what you enjoy the most and pushing the RX7 in the back of the bus to take on the road is more what you enjoy, then you'll probably want an even bigger engine for it anyway and having the final boss V8 in the SS to begin with would save you at least 1 extra engine swap.

Taylor‼️I’m going to be completely honest. I haven’t watched most of videos not involving the Miata/Corvette/Drifting. I can’t get behind watching not car building or engine building content. GF and I have been waiting for the Monte Carlo build. I think no matter what engine goes in the monte that is the build people want and makes the most sense. So please build the monte or Miata because I miss watching you build cars as a 21 year old Drifting/race/street car lover I can’t watch boat and Rv content. The monte is something everyone wants to see built and watch. Sincerely a long time and forever subscriber

18:40 Please notch that firewall and move the engine way back. Try to at minimum get cylinder #1 in line with the spindles (or behind them) ideally. The RX7 is perfect for that engine. That engine is capable of 30psi. You mentioned "1200-1300hp" That's only 14-16psi. That's probably a little too conservative? At 30psi you're capable of 1800-2000hp depending on DA. Gramma's Monte needs a built SBC (Think Ol Man Bill's Malibu and Monte). I'm on board for all the builds and races to come!!

i think putting the LT in the monte carlo built cleanly as a stickshift drag and drive car would be awesome, plus drag and drives make better content than just normal drag racing imo. and you could also take it to shows and just cruise around if you keep full interior and stuff like you mentioned. either way i think most of us will watch whatever you decide to do im here for the builds you do i dont mind what you build ill watch.

Like you said, the Monte is a "forever car" and hearing you say you want to go all out with nothing but the best for it, I think having your first legit professional built motor pushin' it seems like the perfect match. Then hit some Drag 'n Drives makin' memories with Cleet and the boys, I doubt you could ever regret that decision. Then having aspirations for a lightweight setup for the RX7 and it being a Mazda and all, I say stay true to the game with a built 'n boosted 3 rotor just to try something new. Whatever you decide to build though, I'm eager to watch you get stupid as you always do with the process!!

All these people who are pressing for the rx7 need to remember that this is Taylor.. The Monte is gonna be a racecar eventually anyways lol. I really like the drag and drive idea. I feel like the history of the car is gonna make Taylor super passionate about the build, which will make for awesome content and results. The Monte deserves the best of the best, and there is a ton of aftermarket support for the G bodies. Put the LME into Grandma's car and do the full restoration and all of the fab work. That is perfect for your channel. For the race car, you should do a collaboration with Kyle from BoostedBoiz and do a K swap. I know you guys live a little over an hour apart and I think it would be great seeing you guys work together on something.

If your objective is to go fast and win its the RX7 all day. I personally like the drag and drive stuff, but the Monte Carlo would be so heavy with keeping everything, you'd be looking at lower classes, and probably end up thinking about putting a bigger (more torque) engine in it after the first couple events. Monte = Sema | RX7 = Face melter

Came into this video completely expecting to wanna support the rx7 build, but now I absolutely think building the monte with the race motor and shelving the rx7 for a bit. When the monte gets built, either way you’re gonna want to go all out and do the best fab and build work possible, so why not just go all the way the first time. Also will give you opportunity to ease into drag/no prep without having to worry about all the intricacies of a full out race car.

RX7 full tilt race car to run when your not drifting. Everything you were describing about the Monte kept reminding me of the green truck minus the stick and nitrous.
