i remember being a middle schooler and beating this game on my birthday at the arcade with a friend. we got to the very end and the game forces you to fight each other over the girl. My friend and I kept putting quarters in to make sure the other didn't "win". who knows how many extra quarters the game got from that ending fight alone, what a smart business decision lol
Did you know they were not the first to utilize this idea. If you beat Double Dragon in both the arcade and on the Sega Master System port in 2 player mode it does the same thing. You both have to fight for the girls affection. Although I can't remember if you have the ability to continue or not when one player loses. I don't think you can on the Master System at least.
It's sad that Bruce Willis is slowly losing his mental faculties, at such a (relatively) young age. At least he's got the money he needs for proper treatment and make his situation the least bad possible for himself and his family. Anyway, as someone knowing of people who are in a similar situation, it saddened me when I first saw it on the news a few weeks ago.
One of the best, most fun 3D arcade beat'em ups. Die Hard Arcade's official release is still stuck on Sega Saturn while it's japanese Sega Ages remake on PS2 is exclusive to the japanese PSN.
I put SO many quarters into this game at my local arcade. I eventually beat it with the help of a friend. All the QuickTime events were a neat idea and the final boss using desks and stuff to smash you was a fun last battle. The sequel game in the boat wasn’t as memorable.
This is my favorite arcade game ever, I was obsessed. I knew about this before the die hard movies and as a goofy kid I thought the movie was based on the game and immediately became obsessed and how I became a big Bruce Willis fan!
Great showcase as usual! Die Hard Trilogy is an all time fave - the blood on the windshield and “paper” civilians of Die Hard With a Vengeance was always sick fun, haha.
Fun fact the Japanese version of the Die Hard movie is called "Reluctant Hero. Reluctant hero must defeat his enemies. He has no SHOES" Part 2 is called "Reluctant Hero 2. He must save his wife...and this time he has SHOES!" Just a fun little bit of movie time lore 😂
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries😅😅 Minty over at Minty Comedic Arts an amazing review channel brought this to my attention. As a lifelong fan of the movies and games it absolutely cracks me up. Love your channel ❤ Thanks for all you do 😊 Really appreciate the stories and facts. Keep up the great work
Played this occasionally in lake Tahoe...i have vivid memories of the attract mode. It was usually the QTE between levels where you had to stop the bad guy from hurting you
Another aspect of side-scrolling beat-em-up games that always cracked me up was how enemies could get shot point-blank with a rocket launcher or machine gun resulting in only getting knocked down for a few seconds and getting back up again for more😂
One of the best video intros and documentaries EVER provided to us by the BEST RU-vidR EVER dealing with one of the greatest beat em ups of all time: Dynamite Deka aka Die Hard Arcade!!! I own both the original Sega Saturn japanese version and the restyled PS2 version (released only in Japan) and it's simply AWESOME!!! Thanks Pat for bringing us the best gaming memories! Old school is the best! Keep doing what you do 😊
How nice of you to say, I'm glad you enjoy it and all of my content. This game is great especially the PS2 version. Not to mention the follow-ups were excellent as well. Thanks
I am late as all heckfire but I love the genesis/Patman hybrid. RULES! A highlight of each upload for me is "will the QC have a new intro??" Keep it up Patman!!!!!!
Nice one! I have this on the Saturn and it's a fantastic game. I never even knew about the PS2 remake or the sequels either so learned something new from watching this video. Good work, as always! :)
I have this machine in my collection. Mainly it's there for nostalgia, because it was dirt cheap, and I like the design of the cabinet along with it being plastic. It doesn't get nearly as much play as my other machines, but it definitely isn't going anywhere.
Super nostalgic to me as a kid I used to play this all the time up to 8 years old before my dad's Saturn was stolen along with his games childhood memories for sure watching this!. Thank you for the document
Love this game, bought the cabinet not so long ago and gave it some TLC, gives me some awesome memories from back in the day at the arcades with my brother and cousins
That thing with throwing the gun after it runs out of ammo had a funny moment on TV. On the 50's Superman TV show, there was an episode where a thug shoots at Superman. He lets the bullets bounce off his chest. Then the thug throws the gun, and Superman ducks it. One of the interesting things about that.
From what I've heard, SEGA was sitting in a warehouse surplus of unutilized STV boards in Japan. Apparently they STV platform was not the success they had hoped among arcade operators, especially compared to the SEGA Model 2 at the time. So they approached 20th Century Fox for a license to repurpose Dynamite Deka for a stateside release. Their risk paid off and Die Hard Arcade became the most successful STV title ever made. Its sequel Dekka 2 (Dynamite Cop) is one of my favorite beatemups ever, tho Die Hard Arcade laid the foundation which Dekka 2 perfected. Nice video.
Thanks Patman! I remember playing this arcade at our local bowling alley and liking it. I didn't think it ever had a home port, and certainly had no clue it had sequels!
My local movie theater in my tiny town had this arcade cabinet for years and i played every time i went to see a movie as a kid. It would kill the time before the movie started while i met up with freinds and such
This has to be one of my favourite videos of yours, especially seeing Death Adder booted in the bollocks. I absolutely hated fighting the spider robots.
I remember this was a must play with a friend if we walked into an arcade and they had this. I'm sad they never tried to replicate or sequel it. Dynamite cop and zombie revenge just didn't cut it.
On beat-‘em-ups: There’s just something fun about walking down the street, kicking over a trash can, finding a roast chicken and eating it to restore health.
I still remember the first time I played this I was 12 or 13 years old at my local AMC movie theater in 1996. I remember walking by and wondering what the heck it was. Nobody was at the machine so I stood next to it watching the attract mode with the helicopter sound and when I saw the SEGA logo I knew it was going to be good. I exchanged some of my snack money into quarters and played maybe for 15 minutes but I had a blast the entire time and I loved how the controls felt exactly like Virtua Fighter as it felt familiar and comfortable for me. Not long after that the game came out for Saturn but since I didn't own the system it would be years until I could play it again. I thought it was the only game in the series and I had a Dreamcast I didn't know Dynamite Cop was it's sequel because of the name difference. I wish Sega would bring it back as not a lot of people know about the games. 😄
Thank you so much for another thorough history and review of these brawler video games! I want to check out those PS2 renditions of those Sega Saturn classics too. That rendition of Golden Axe looks pretty cool too. I will try to see if I can download these arcade versions for M.A.M.E: Die Hard, Asian Dynamite, and Dynamite Cop! 🤞🏾
I remember this hitting my local arcade when I was in high school. We couldn’t get enough of it … but we also didn’t think there was any connection to the Die Hard movies. I didn’t catch onto the building cues, and between the character having no Bruce Willis likeness and no movie dialogue, it just didn’t set in. But no complaints - this game kicked butt. Most arcades near me were going under by then, so this one kind of marked the end of an era for me.
I always thought it was a bit weird how aside from the character wearing a white undershirt and being trapped in a building there wasn't much of a connection to diehard. With that being said it was still a lot of fun to play
Great Video! I have never heard of the Asian Dynamite Game on the Arcade I will be looking into that now. Die Hard Arcade was special to me when I was about 15 years old my local arcade had it and It was my number 1 go to game to play in the Arcade. I eventually bought a Sega Saturn so I could own it and play it.
i remember the nathans near me didnt have the die hard arcade. i played it once on vacation in florida but was only able to play for a few minutes.i remember wishing the nathans arcade near me would get it ..well i stopped going to the arcade and the ended up getting die hard. but by the time i heard about it i went and played for maybe 15 min tthinking ill come back next week and play but the nathans shut down 3 days later and i never got enough time to really enjoy it..
I cant believe it, after more then 20 years I finally found the game from my childhood that I use to play when my mom worked in the movie theater.........and it was just called Die Hard Arcade. literally the only thing I could remember from the game was beating it with a friend then the presidents daughter choosing one person to be her bodyguard. so glad my search has finally ended🥺
I remember seeing this in the arcade and being blown away for an hour straight lol. A buddy and i beat it if memory serves. Or got dang close. Funny how it was mindbending back then, and looks very dated today.
I remember playing this game with several small tweeks. The boss had brown hair and the main charater looked a bit older. It still had the Die Hard cabinet. It went by a different name on the start up demo screen
I love this game so much, only beaten it once or twice, but FREAKING LOVED IT. Played it almost anywhere I saw it, and started off really bad at it bc I was mad young. Something about this one made it really special. It was difficult, you had to get decent at the game or it would smack you around for sure. I had no idea about the arrest mechanic tho, that's completely new to me haha. the QTE fails sometimes just lead to additional fights midway between the next destination, not sure if that made it into your script, but I'm sure you know it's not always just extra damage on the fails. I used to be really bad at that part.
I love the irony of them wanting it to be more American, while taking place in Nakatomi tower, a Japanese company, from a movie about a Japanese business deal
How'd they forget to make John McClane left-handed?! Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza is the only Die Hard game to get that detail right. And it's an FPS game, meaning that there'd be more of a reason to do it wrong on purpose just to appease the status quo or whatever. Southpaws, westpaws, cross-doms, mix-handers, and ambidexers, represent!
I freaking love this game😀😍👊🔫🕹🎮. I remember playing both the arcade and Saturn version of Die Hard arcade. I also enjoyed playing dynamite cop for both the arcade and Sega dreamcast. I did not know there was a 3rd installment. It would be great if this games were released on modern game consoles.
a surprisingly deep and fun game. on the surface I can see how it would get bad reviews... the graphics are blocky and the textures basic (like an early playstation... or saturn game for that matter), it departs from the movie source material quite a bit, and it has the goofy deep scan game mode to build up enough credits to beat the game easily even if you have no skills whatsoever. Other than the Saturn version have a lot of loading interruptions, it's much better when you realize that it's the virtual fighter engine with an equivalent variety of moves and secrets built into the action, and when you realize the movement is meant to mimic the "pseudo-3d" alignment of games like Double Dragon and Final Fight (rather than a true 3d environment) it's surprisingly easy to play and enjoy especially with a friend. I love it and it's even more charming than the quasi-sequel on the Dreamcast, as wild as "Dynamite Cop" can be.
Patmaaaaan! (In my Sega voice) dude i was so bad at this game that i never knew it had all these awesome attacks. The Die Hard movie series are my favorites especially the 3rd one. It sucks what Bruce Willis is going through in real life.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I was a little too young to *truly* enjoy video arcades in the 1980s. Those were my early grade school years and so I wasn’t driving anywhere. I was kind of limited to birthday parties at Chuck E Cheese, the occasional visits to Aladdin’s Castle at the mall (but those were always on “adult time”), and tagging along to my mom’s bowling league games. The bowling alley that she went to had very limited arcade games-usually only three-but they were swapped out VERY frequently. Which was both good, and bad!
this game was a blast. A buddy and I each chucked like ten bucks into this to beat it and then kept plunking quarters when we had to fight each other. it was too much fun, lol
