I think I know what Sinji was trying to ask! If you shine somebody and JC upsmash without waveshining you can sometimes hit both the shine and the upsmash, based on your momentum and their traction. I bet he thought there was one frame of leniency to hit both, which might be the case in some situations.

Also at 22:50, I proved to KK that day that Sheik could grab fox's max range d-tilt with shield DI in So it wasn't misinformation

Really liked this video a lot. I think there is so much space for content like this. People, myself included, really enjoy stories and with the characters we have in this scene, this kind of content has real potential to be huge. The docs are great and all, but more unheard stories like this are so entertaining. More of this!

Yo Toph, I have an idea for your Twitter Takedowns. There's this podcast called Reply All that has this hilarious segment called "Yes Yes No" in which the co-hosts' boss shows them a tweet that he doesn't understand at all. The tweet will often be layered with obscure references and memes, and it's up to the co-hosts to fully decipher it for their clueless boss. This usually involves peeling back layers of context to the references, which I think you are a master of. In the context of Melee, I think it would be fun to have you and another knowledgeable guest try to explain Melee tweets that make little sense to people who are not as involved in Melee/out of the loop (e.g. Scar).

I remember Syrox came to a socal local a few years back and played the most spazzed out fox we had ever seen. He had that energy of being a badass / cool fox player. I think there are still a lot of ppl like that out there, even if the top foxes rn have differing energies / attitudes

10:22 Onward, what you started describing here was how I felt about Marth once Zain started getting good. It was like: "Oh, I guess this guy is gonna be the one to show the world all of the stuff this character can do that nobody else knows about...ok." It definitely kinda killed my motivation to improve a lot. I think it is still a weird way to think about it, but I definitely understand it.

Would be interested to hear what folks have to say regarding Malcom Gladwell (discussion starts around 15:44) since almost no further details or context were given in this vod from Toph or Twitch chat (understandably so since the video is about Fox). There's no lead on why Toph suggests skeptcisim, but there's some context for venus's position. I dug into "look up 'Malcom Gladwell cigarettes'" (suggestion from twitch chatter venus_ssbm @ 16:22) and found plenty of misinformation about the topic. I recommend doing your own research fellow internet strangers, but here's my TL;DR: *people don't read enough & misinformation spreads fast online* Here's my expanded TL;DR Malcom had early, indirect ties to the tobacco industry in the early (and I mean EARLY, we're talking 80s/early 90s) part of his career when he was politically conservative. That coupled with an easily misunderstood writing piece about tobacco and social security make for an easy "omg u corrupt" misunderstanding that still follows him despite his openly liberal views and subsequent pieces decrying "Big Tobacco."

I noticed that to get around the SDI in the marth matchup sfat started doing back air into nair, then I see mango was doing it in 2009

lol, it's weird. I joined the scene in 2006 playing fox, and for some reason I've always thought I joined the scene late. That, and I've never been able to immerse myself in competitive smash for long stretches of time. I'm amazed some people can continue to play this game for years while building their own career outside of melee.

Yeah the first time a Fox won a major in that era was when Mango had his losers run at Zenith 2013. It was the first time a fox won in over half a decade, and he played fox in only like 4 sets (after he got sent to losers by uhhhh, M2K I think) Not only that, but hella people immediately started complaining about fox and discrediting the character (mostly smashboards posts)

More of a history of fox mentality and smash board threads than anything LOL. Still enjoyed the video! The tiny amount of hard cuts in this editing shows this guys got natural charisma imo. Or a lazy editor lol

Some things are always true in this game but somebody comes along and changes your opinion on it. I've gotten better at not caring so much whatever the narrative is about this or that character. Too many examples to challenge what you think you know and the times always change eventually and then it's all up for debate again.

Fox players perfectly transitioned from bitching about puff to bitching about marth. Sick.

Who knew 20 years of Fox development could be undone by Marth (Zain) just being better. Imagine if Fox players quit back then because PPMD was just better. Fox players shouldn't give up. Much like in the past there's a reason Fox is at the top. Go out there and find it!
