There were tons of great coins in this old-time 1950s coin collection I was entrusted with handling, but the best coins seem to have came at the end. I was blown away with the quality found in this last batch, including multiple items that I believe have a very solid likelihood of achieving 5-figure valuations when they are sold at Heritage Auctions. I am very pleased with this last batch, and thrilled to see their results - what are your predictions here? And what do you think the items will realize.. am I being reasonable?

Great assortment of coins. Besides the 5 Mark Neu Guinea (retail value around 2 k), the Prussian 1719 Gulden is an absolute stunner. That´s what I call a high end collection, thanks for sharing ! 👌Greets from GER, U.

Beautiful collection. One thing I noticed were the envelopes and finish on the coins that were not in the plastic protection. My dad stored in similar envelopes and the coins developed the same finish which is unfortunate but that what they stored in during that era. Congratulations on being able to handle the collection. The early Russian Roubles from the mid 1700s are world treasures. I looked up just one of them. According to the NGC price guide, that 1741 Russian Rouble with the portrait of Ivan III is Catalogue Number KM-207.2 and has a value of $6,000 in VF, $12,000 in EF, and realized $52,500 in MS-64 at the Goldberg sale in May 2008.

Wow, what an amazing collection, so many of those pieces are just fresh/original and breathtaking. Do you know if the collection is from the UK? The accompanying tag for the Iraqi 1 Ryal coin says 18/6 on the bottom, maybe indicating that the original collector paid 18 shillings and sixpence for it. It would also indicate that the collection is pre-1971, which makes sense All I can say is wow. Thank you for sharing!
@TreasureTownCoins

Absolutely! So the collection is pre-1953 (when they stopped buying). It was a doctor in the States who bought world coins when he would (apparently frequently) travel across Europe.

are you grading them first or is HA handling the grading or are they selling them raw? Apologies if you answered this in the vid I haven't watched it yet. I've been frustrated they've told me I have to get things graded before they'll consider them, but I just can't afford the grading fees and shipping and appropriate insurance. Thanks.

@saganworshipper6062 2 месяца назад
Have you ever tried Ian Russell at Great Collections? They usually pay for your coins to get graded and then they sell them for you. Albeit, You probably get like 70% of price guide value and then the deduction for the grading fees etc. So i don't know if it is actually worth it but all the work is handled for you, I think he even offers you cash up front before the coins sell if you need the money in a hurry. I've never used them but they have a large inventory and i heard he is a nice guy.
@TreasureTownCoins
@TreasureTownCoins 2 месяца назад
I actually used to work at HA (loved it!) and on a collection they are confident with like this (and from a source they trust - me) we went through the collection in detail and they took what they wanted to grade and left me the rest. Not saying that this is you, but maybe to explain - given how much volume they are doing, the effort in say taking a $4K consignment raw and grading it and running the whole process and then only making $800 is probably not worth it (given that the people they have might also be able to do a $40K consignment - small by their standards - and make $5,000 with that time)... so they may want you to simplify the process from an effort perspective where they can immediately put the coins in auction graded as-is. There also were a lot of emailers/callers who had common coins that they thought should be an MS68 rarity or a regular, non-variety coin that they believed to be a rarity worth $10K+ where it's worth face value. So maybe to help with some of the process they'd undergo (or avoid having them grade it, have them charge you $30 on a coin that is worth face value, in the off-chance that that happened), they want to avoid that type of issue.
@TreasureTownCoins
@TreasureTownCoins 2 месяца назад
Ian is also great! I think they take a lot more collections of lesser value (though also play with the $$$ high end stuff) as well.

Those coins don't look like they are stored properly. If not, the PVC from the plastic and the glue from the envelope will damage the coins over time. And it looks like they have already been stored improperly already for a long time.

As much as I enjoy seeing this collection of coins, and I do very much appreciate them, it is a little disheartening as it makes my own personal accumulation seem rather feeble and weak. Anyway, I was especially struck with the Tibetan coin (crown?) which I feel may be a higher value item (I can't imagine Tibet issued a lot of coins), and also many of those Prussia and German States pieces. Beautiful. Thanks

For sure! My collection is much smaller too - I wish dealers would show the accumulations they find more (but most are pretty secretive or don't have the time)

Definitely improperly stored. A lot of those coins probably looked BU perfect when they were originally put in those envelopes. The envelope has acid that damages the coin. The plastic bags have PVC which damages the coins. Some 3cent 2x2's would have prevented that. Shame.
