There are 2 types of magic systems on how you use magic in this world that being Elf magic and Gnome magic, both are fundamentally the same but have different styles of casting it. Elf style magic is more like ordering/directing the mana whilst Gnome style magic is talking/convincing mana to do what you want them to do. With these it also depends whether you cast it verbally or written. Falin uses gnome magic both in written and verbal casting while Marcille uses elf magic in verbal casting and gnome magic for written casting.

There's an extra comic where they talk about the war gnomes and elves have had over magic, and it concludes that whether one asks or commands the spirits to fight, blood will be shed either way. It was told in such a poignant way; Ryoko Kui really is such an excellent storyteller.

The dog thing is a Kobold, a type of fairy popular in Europe. Dungeons and Dragons portray them as a short lizardman. Japanese takes on Western Fantasy generally depicts them as a dog-man creature.

1:49 Yeap, that's the GOAT Rie Takahashi, and she also voiced Ai Hoshino (Oshi no Ko), Tomo Aizawa (Tomo-chan is a Girl), Takagi (Teasing Master Takagi-san). Also, Falin was voiced by Saori Hayami, the same VA for Yor (Spy x Family), Shinobu (Demon Slayer), Yumeko (Kakegurui), Shoko (A Silent Voice), Himawari (Boruto). Damn, having both of them in one episode is a dream come true.

Marcielle and her varying hairstyles really carrying this anime, I wonder if and hope that she's going to be a little bit more prominent with her magic eventually.

I have a feeling that given Falin is better with ghost type creatures and her magic seems much more passive that Marcielle's magic is much more offensive oriented, which I bet we'll see when fighting tougher monsters
