My obsession w horror i rhink started when my big sister gave me her ps1 when i was in kindergarten and she accidentally gave me resident evil 1, which was only a few years old at the time, and i started playing it and screamed and ran out the room when that zombie turned its head and looked at the screen 🤣🤣🤣 I couldn’t figure out the controls so it kept biting me and the game gave me nightmares. Ever since then ive been OBSESSED with games like that!

It's awesome. I just watched some clips of the remake that just came out and they were not able to capture that same feeling. The brief moments where you can see the outside landscape do so much to add to the game. The beginning, 9:46 , 10:24 , and of course the Magician fight at 24:13 (that looks like it's on a different planet) are great.

@@nickd1978 couldn’t agree more - the technology limitations that older games had really often helped portray the nightmarish feel & ambience that games like this were going for, like the classic silent hills & resident evils - remakes often lose that feel right off the bat which is a shame.

@@nickd1978 aw man you described exactly what I felt. The environment the house of the dead games are set in always looked so nightmarish and surreal with lots of bright contrasting colours. I have to say I remember a lot more about HOTD2 than one.

This game scarred me for life. When I went to Peter Piper Pizza as a kid and viewed the game for the first time, I was traumatized. For some reason the zombies reminded me of one of the characters from the Simpsons.

To be fair house of the dead is more of experimented zeds.

Technically none of these enemies are actually undead corpses, those are found in Overkill and House Of The Dead 3, these enemies are bio-engineered abominations, but I can understand the confusion.

Quality over quantity.

One pretty meh downside on an otherwise good game though. I can't be too mad as much as I liked the varied enemies in RE1-6. I'm thinking they'll really take that critique into consideration with the next one.

My sister actually had a nightmare about this house of the dead game . She told that in that dream , i was playing house of the dead and i was unaware about a zombie attack . Basically i was playing this game and killing a zombie . My sister saw that this zombie actually became real and appeared out of nowhere and tried to ambush me from the back but i saved myself still unaware about attack . Do you know how i saved myself , i killed that zombie in the video game but it even actually died in real life too . Probably it was also connected to the video game . Seriously not joking . She told me .

*+Zane Araki* I had virtually the exact same experience when I first saw this game in the arcade at the mall, it was my first time that I can recall seeing zombies in my life. The scariest one for me hands down was the chainsaw zombie, with the duel-axe wielding one being a close second. It's interesting how similar our memories of this are.

King Ace Hernandez At least with the shotgun and Handgun there is a sense of urgency. But with the SMG it's pretty bland.

griz312 right you know cause the machine gun you have to shake it like a can to reload in part 4

3 and 4 don't have a good feel. Part of it is that enemies in 3 and 4 aren't as destructible, especially bosses. Blasting all of Chariot's parts off was fun as hell and made you want to play more. Compare that to fighting Death, who loses his hat and nothing else (and just won't go away.) In 1 and 2, one perfect shot could save you when a boss was about to roast your ass. In 3 and 4, you need to get multiple perfect shots in a short time to drain a boss' stun meter, and it feels cheap when a boss hits you anyway.

TBF it's supposed to be a quarter muncher in arcades so it's supposed to take several hours and dollars before you best it. Since this is emulated (and the person playing this has really good aim), it only takes half an hour

oh yea it did constantly on every shot ! it was really bad strobing on the standard cabinet on the deluxe it was not so harsh it used projection moniter

When I first tried finishing this game, it was in a bowling alley. I was playing horribly, not reloading efficently enough, spraying bullets at the zombies, and continuing maybe 6 or 7 times. Now that I've practiced this game on the PC, I've memorized it, blown a bunch of zombies' heads off, and successfully finished it with 1 credit.

Did you crank up the dip switches for the difficulty? I'm pretty sure almost every arcade had this game cranked up to max. Only one or two places I played it did it seem like it was set on whatever the lower settings were.

I have actually noticed that zombies in this game series are pretty intelligent especuially in the overkill . In house of the dead 2 and 4 , zombies actually know how to drive car . In house of the dead 3 , there is a zombie who has retained his language and can even talk . And in overkill , zombies are very intelligent . The zombies in this series can even use tools . Its a change to other zombie stories .
