If hub worlds with NPCs ever come back I hope Sonic Man comes back, he's hilarious as a gag character.

The NPC’s at 5:45 are references to the ones in sonic adventure near the burger shop. In SA1 there was a girl who wanted to ask out a guy. Sonic 06 just reversed it.

The Sonic '06 NPCs are where you can most tell the game had a Sonic X writer working on it. They give off that same absurdist anime vibe that the Japanese version of Sonic X gave off, which might have been fine if it didn't clash so hard with the "realistic" tone the game is going for.

My personal stance on this is that the game was just ahead of its time in a very bad way. The tech simply wasn't there yet to do photorealism in a convincing way. You could make 06 these days, but not in 2005. For the perspective of asset repetition and the town missions being mostly kinda crap, I'll just put that up to it being a wonder the game even released in a stable and beatable fashion with how unfinished it is.(I still laugh a bit at the mental image of the devs desperately trying to get the sourcecode to compile for PS3 to meet the deadline. Those poor saps got done dirty...) 4:12 Please someone tell me there was a pun here in japanese that just didn't manage to cross the language-barrier. 4:32 Ok, at that point, I wonder what the german translation did here or if they even bothered trying to make sense of it. Because those already share a word in that language, so there would be no rationale behind combining two diffrent words for them. 13:31 Honestly, this guy is half the reason why I would be surprised if the townmission-dialogue that confirms this game takes place a few years after the previous one is a mistranslation. It just fits the idea of a hero(Sonic) having faded into international legend after years of inactivity, so random cosplayers decide to impersonate them.

Sonic Man is my favorite human NPC in all of sonic. Close second is tied with Soleanna Boys and Accordion man. Honestly ‘06, as cringe and unfinished as some of the humans are, that’s their charm! I mean Sonic Man is hilarious though for real, finished or not, it was well executed

The idea of regular humans and Eggman even being made more realistic in this game really made the franchise look like it was having a huge identity crisis.
