Paul might be my favourite commentator. Knows when to talk, when to shut up, and paints a clear picture of whats happening while giving it the right amount of hype and excitement
I remember the time he stepped up to fight Perry because Perry's opponent got injured a day before the fight or something. I think he even went up a weight class because he was fighting at lightweight on that card already. Dude is a badass.
My favorite jre podcasts are probably the mma/boxing/grappling focused ones. I love hearing people who are skilled martial artists with deep understanding on the subject talk about it. So fascinating
Joe always talks about power but technique is so important. Hitting the jaw with the knuckles, the torque. Alex's punches are very technical and accurate. He lands right on the chin.
Alex is polished and battle hardened. Izzy wears nail polish.... Can izzy's ego survive another loss? Everyone who says Izzy almost won in the first round, then how did he get to round 5 to win? Why didn't izzy swarm at the beginning of round two?
@@Gixsir some fan said he was a better commentator than a fighter and paul said say it to his face and the fan was like 'no way youll kick my ass' and paul said 'ok fair enough '
Imagine losing to the same guy twice in two separate combat sports, KO’d in each respectively. Totaling 0-4. That’s beyond humiliating. That’s what true inferiority looks like. A walking talking L in the face of his rival. Izzy would have to live with it his whole life.
@@II-hh8gj Not really. He’s still achieved 10x the accomplishments Pereira(who literally EARNED NOTHING to gain a title shot in mma) will ever do. Alex is a padded champ, only haters and/or casuals fail to realize this. There’s a REASON why Dana PROTECTED the so-called “champ” from the likes of Derek Brunson(who Izzy DESTROYED), Marvin Vettori(who Izzy BEAT2x), Jack Hermansson, ROBERT WHITTAKER(who Izzy KO’d AND OUTPOINTED): Alex would have lost several times over and EVERYONE knows it. Adesanya is the second greatest MW after Anderson Silva; Alex will never be able pad his way to that legacy, a spoon fed champion? Let’s stop the nonsense narratives, shall we?
@@fgc1850 Yeah, but with that he proved that he's definitely capable of taking Alex out. It's not like Izzy has to beat him on points if he ever wants to win.
@@chrisholm9789 you gotta remember that izzy had him on ice at the very end of the first or second round, could definitely go either way if he’s able to land like that in the middle of a round
@@JoeMama-wz5rwhe wouldn’t land like that because alex knew it was the end of the round and was trying to pressure him, he wouldn’t do that in a the middle of the fight
The fact that they have weight classes but certain fights have 20 lbs over an opponent is a joke. Shout out to the fighters who fight in their more true weight classes.
Nah pereira is literally Izzy 2.0. Izzy is already a bad matchup for Whittaker and pereira is bigger, has a longer reach, is more powerful, just as accurate. If they ever fight it’s gonna look like rob is a lightweight.
@@al3xander353 Alex doesn't have the same ground game as Izzy, heck Izzy even outgrappled him of all people. Whittaker will spend the entire 25mins wrestlefucking him and probably grounds and pounds Alex to submission, it will probably look like what Ottoni did to Alex. Quit being a ball rider.
@@Mike-ud6hd reread what you wrote. He was up 3-1 because of the ground control lol. Alex won in the 5th round. He could have koed him earlier or vice versa.
@@Mike-ud6hd The key thing here is that Alex made TONS of mistakes during that fight. Mainly with first round recklessness getting clipped and after trying to grapple with Izzy. Alex was actually out landing Izzy if you check the numbers
Paul is a classy guy and a great commentator. Great seeing him on here. I'd love to see him as a frequent guest to go over prospects and future match-ups, etc. in the future!
Spotify is truly slow on that.. and i predicted and was beta of spotify.. i predicted in my 2015 price video that it would be huge, along with other apps Elon bought 😎
I rewatched the ending of their fight again, man Periera was trying take Izzy’s head off. BIG power shots thrown from the hips, I was surprised izzy was still standing.
3 hours of my time listening to this Pod and the most we got was a 8 second discussion of this weekends Main Event, pound for pound title and possible double champ status fight.
Izzy doesn't have the change anything, he was decisively winning that fight until the finish. The problem is that you have to be perfect against a guy like Pereira who can end the night at any moment. Izzy doesn't really have the same kind of power. I would like to see Izzy grapple more in the rematch for sure even though his ego probably wants to KO Alex.
Not decisively. Alex was winning the first round until literally the last second, he won the second round, hurt Izzy's body on the third round so who knows what could've happened, he made a mistake with that trip attempt and end up on the bottom, he took the fourth round off because of what happened in the third and won the fifth.
Imo, Izzy was more lucky in the fight than Perreira, rocking Pereira at the end of the first won him the round and confidence. But like we've seen, if Alex just decides it's time to end the fight he will
I agree to a certain extent. I think he should’ve done a better job working the body and he should’ve kept chomping at the legs. Not that he didn’t … fifth round He probably should’ve shot for a takedown. definitely were some mistakes. Biggest mistake he made was hanging out against the cage. It’s not a good place to be when you have a powerful guy who can’t win unless he ko you. Also, he probably should have stayed out of the clinch. Alex was landing Solid bodywork on Izzy in the clinch. When Izzy was just trying to hold him in place.. stay away from that and make him pay when he walks forward.
I know Izzy was winning the first fight before he got finished but I feel like this fight is going to be even harder for him, such a 50/50 and I love it!
I think people are underrating Periera’s grappling like he got destroyed by Izzy, Izzy’s only takedown came from a failed Alex trip. He is so freakishly strong that he needs little technique to make it work
Alex looked bad grappling. Didn't know what to do. Both DC and Rogan commented on it. He's improving though. Thing is he didn't have the technique to stand back up. Your strength doesn't matter as much when you're on the bottom. definitely improving working with Glover though.
Came here cause Paul wz in the seat. Now we've got two stand-up guyz giving us their perspective backed by a wealth of experience and knowledge. I fkn luv it.
The same man video you commenting under said Izzy won the first fight they cheated him and in the second they gave him a standing eight count which you don’t know what that is either lol and anyone with a brain can see Izzy was easily winning the fight until he got caught actually rocked Alex twice if he kept his foot in the gas he would still be the champion but he made that mistake of giving his opponent to much respect and he paid for it
Man, Paul Felder's voice is so soothing....Thank God, he does commentary... knowledgeable fighter who knows what's going on and on top of that, such good voice
Pereira is bigger than some 205'ers & is fighting at 185. That being said, I still really like him & think he's impressive. It's crazy tho cuz Izzy always runs away with the fight, absolutely winning the entire time & then gets starched. Such a crazy match up. Fan of both.
Yes he is a natural LHW but still makes 185 which is mind blowing ,it's a clear advantage just look at how conor use to force himself down to Featherweight and he just obliterated that division but was match in size and power once he went back up
@@bmustardman So what? Just because other fighters do it too doesn’t mean it’s not true that he cuts an insane amount. The guy looks just as big as Glover and Jamahal Hill. Pereira still made weight though so it doesn’t matter, but it’s not a narrative that Peireira is massive for MW lol
his walk around weight is about 200, hence his weight against Jan for the LHW title. Middleweight is 185. that means he cuts 15 pounds which is significantly less than most other middle weights cut. even if it was a 20 pound cut thats still less than most middleweights. Whittaker for example walks around at 215/220. Pereira weighs a little over 230. Izzy really does not cut that much weight
20 pounds isn’t a lot compared to what other fighters cut, you ever tried to cut 20lbs? It’s really not that hard, 300-500 calorie deficit with some cardio for 3 weeks and you’re there. I’ve done it without trying just by working a lot. You’d know that if you ever tried to lose weight
Joe: "You can't call and score a fight at the same time" Joe interviewing Jan: "You thought you lost right? I was commentating and I thought you lost bro. Can you just say you lost?"
If Pereira wins it's a wrap. Even if Izzy came back even later and won a fight, 1-4 isn't something you can hang your hat on. If Izzy wins we're guaranteed a trilogy.
What's weird is I like Izzy's chances. It's very very hard for a person to win 3 fights against a world class former champion let alone 4. Izzy's bound to get one win in lol.
So the fight really did come down to Izzy's movement being compromised early. He couldn't get out of those high pressure close quarters situations late in the fight. When else have we seen Izzy literally leaning against the fence instead of circling out?
Regardless of how much I love Izzy and how well he has fought in the last two fights against Pereira he absolutely has to win this fight. It’s the biggest fight of his career and if he doesn’t win he opening the door for Poatan to become a two weight champ
Izzy almost got Alex with a shot after the bell 🔔.the best shot he lend on the hole fight. I think Alex will get Izzy out faster this time third round KO . Can wait for the fight
Feel like a 205 Pereira could possibly win the LHW belt against Jiri or Jamahal Hill. Tough spot for Izzy to have to fight him again. Unfortunate for Izzy that Pereira is just barely able to drain himself to 185.
Ain't no way he beat Jiri, Hill would be an interesting fight but Jiri man his chin is otherworldly whenever I think of him I go back to the Dom Reyes fight and Reyes was blasting him with hard clean shots and Jiri just kept coming I think Jiri would eat him alive just my opinion though
@@Manny-117 cannot compare Reyes To Alex. Alex will beat Jiri in standup. Jiri can probably beat him through a mix of standup and grappling. Make him worry about grappling and crack him or just take him down and suffocate him.
I Love Joe Rogan and the Joe Rogan Experience! My go to everyday for interesting talking sometimes about nothing or dumbshit and sometimes pure gold! Love it!
"All he had to do was move around" - No Joe. For such a knowledgeable commentator on the sport, you can't just move around and evade Alex Pereira, especially on a compromised leg. It was arguably that mindset in the 4th and 5th rounds that got him knocked the fuck out
These past few years Joe has honestly had terrible commentary. He just runs with a narrative the whole fight, and he exaggerates moments for viral clips.
Very obvious Alex’s plan was to make it so Izzy couldn’t move around. He worked the legs from the very beginning. The “stumble” from Izzy in he 5th was cause he was in pain from all those checks, Alex saw that and began the fight ending sequence.
@@JB-np2kh how do you reckon Izzy beats him - if he can? I'm convinced he needs to hunt the hunter and risk getting knocked out to finish Alex in the opening rounds. (It might surprise him - and he has the power to do it as proven by the final exchange in the first round. I think Alex is still susceptible to that right straight / overhand when it's well set up. If you watch their kickboxing fights, Adesanya was lighting him up with it. Smaller gloves, potential KO)
Thing is that Izzy will adapt, no doubt, but Alex will as well... And the thing about Alex's potential for adaption would seem to equate to an even greater outcome. Reason being is that he got moved into and up the UFC, fast... he didn't get a nice and easy ramp up to the champ like Conor or some other dudes who were pegged by the UFC early on as future champs and revenue generators. He got moved in quickly and almost too quickly. You could see the tension in his movement and stance; the nerves of such a huge fight in the Octogon so quickly. For the rematch he should have very little of that. And a looser more comfortable and confident Alex, with 3 wins now under his belt, probably means a great deal more for his winning chances than if Izzy is to just avoid leg kicks. Put another way, Alex' chances of winning grow for the rematch while Izzy's narrow to a single technique he has to learn to avoid. So, IMO, Alex should be even more favored to win the rematch.
It’s weird how frowned upon “Trying” is. If I lose in anything and almost won on multiple occasions I’m gonna want to try until I at least prove to myself that I can overcome this hurdle even once. The way some people think is so strange to me; nevertheless, let’s go Izzy. Praying for a W, we take lessons and learn from em 👏🏾🇳🇬 🇳🇿I know this win probably means the most to him selfishly (in a good way), he’s got nothing to lose so watch him work
He does this all the time he exaggerates so much like saying . He said "Izzy was only 194" He literally weighed in at 200 pounds at the weigh ins against Jan Jon Jones rehydrated to from 205 up to 222.5 at ufc 232 they released the figures for that card. Ain't no way Pereira is getting anywhere near that from 185 probs weighed like 205 to 210 in the cage.
@Max Joe said it in this podcast and he did the weigh ins and works there. U think he is gonna lie about it? It's not a secret it was same for Strickland fight. He is huge should be fighting 205. Not taking anything away from him he got izzys #
I've wondered if some guys with a ton of power and confidence that they can hit if they get their opponent to relax a little, will purposely lose a couple of rounds (that could have been closer if they tried harder) because they know the opponent will relax because they are ahead on the cards
Nah people like Joe Rogan will say that's enough, 1 "revenge" win is enough. Rampage got destroyed by Wanderlei Silva twice in Pride and when Rampage knocked Silva out in UFC Rogan made it out that was enough.
By the time Robert fights Alex he will have already improved his grappling a lot from his last fight. Tho he might move up after beating Izzy again. Robert stuggled with Izzys reach and size so since Alex is bigger and hits harder. I just dont see a way to beat him. Unless Rob can climb on his back and get a choke.
4:05 "You can't call and score at the same time" says Joe just weeks after trying to say Jan lost a fight that he actually arguably tied in front of thousands of people.
If Alex can just get his TDD to about Izzy’s level, it’s gonna be so tough for the rest of MW to beat him. Also, most of Izzy’s grappling success in their fight was all due to Alex’s mistakes. And Izzy hasn’t really fought anyone who checks his kicks like Alex did. This is one rematch I really wanna see.
Jan was checking their fight. Izzy is overrated in a shallow division. Moved up, wasn't close, then got beat by Pereira whos got less than ten pro mma fights lol. Its a weak division they're beast kickboxers and all but its just not a stacked division
He doesn’t have time as he’s older and has only been training for a few years seriously. He can get slightly better at grappling overall but it’s basically impossible at this age
@@Bickle121 I can see that to be the case. Plus his style tends to be front foot heavy making it easier for grapplers to take him down. Izzy’s style worked cuz he back stepped a lot.
@@davelopez8097 yeah again, it’s a time thing more so. Mid 30s and is only a few years into mma, he doesn’t have time to catch up whilst also in a training camp for championship fights.
you work your way up fighting thrugh different roomsz and shapesz to get to the flat round open disc the octagoin can be the ifnal step before open combat stage
“All he had to do was move around and not get caught” true statement fellas and he’s really good at it as we’ve seen. Fans don’t like it, many were disappointed in his moving around and not getting caught when he fought Cannonier. I’m glad Izzy had an entertaining fight for a change, I guess getting caught suits him.
