12ax7 & dual 6V6. Mine was basically clean even with the volume cranked, perfect pedal platform, nice warm full tone with the EQ at noon too. The boost is great for adding just a slight push to get the amp compressing a little. Very even volume taper too so it’s easy to get nice home volumes. And the built in Tube Screamer is the best I ever heard! It’s kind of the perfect amp. The TSA30 is great too, and runs 6L6s for more power, plus a different (passive) EQ section.
these were cool amps, when they first came out I thought it was a goofy gimmick but I've heard them being used on stage and realized how good they were and not expensive. Great demo, thanks Johan and have a good weekend
I am a bass player and own the matching head and 112 cab both with vinyl covers. I bought them for my studio and it's in absolutely MINT condition. MAYBE 5 hours on it. It's all tube and can switch down to 5w, otherwise it's 15w which means it's loud and a guitar player can utilize ALL the overdive and gain it has to offer. Also, it's just gorgeous and nice to look at.
Most RU-vidrs who review different amps play something that suits the amps and the audience's expectation of it. You're the kind of guitar player that who does his own thing, and you make all these different amps sound like you. You really have a sound of your own that comes through so much, whatever amp you're showcasing. A lot of guitars players cannot find their own voice and sound like you've done. Just wanted to compliment you on that. I've been watching your video's for a few years, followed some of your recommendations and you keep surprising me how you can make stuff sound good that I don't expect to sound good, but is also always sound like Johan Segeborn.
@@JohanSegeborn you're welcome! I've been thinking in for a while, so I thought it was time I shared those thoughts. Your channel as a whole is something unique and I really enjoy listening while you crank amps and play some nasty riffs. I hope you're still working on that album!
Just bought one of those heads thanks to your demo. Great sound through that cabinet! Thanks for all the non-noodling. That's what sold me. Big chords!
I still have the amp and the cab for almost 10 years now. Great pedal platform amp. The inbuilt TS channel is so good that I’ve used it on many recordings for layering tracks. And the 4 ohm output is a good feature that you rarely seen on smaller wattage amp/lunchbox type head. Definitely a sleeper! Imma keeping it forever!
I've had one of these TS15 amp and cabinet separately like in the video for over two decades now. It's a great amp and I haven't seen the need to spend thousands on a Marshal or Fender for some time now. Then again, I'm 57 now so I hang on to money more than I used to. Great amps !!
@@TFMB Damn. Well, it felt a lot longer, but I'll have to defer to you knowledge here. I truly would have thought it was over twenty years. I must have bought it off an, off duty, staffer at a music shop as I bought a 175 at the same time and paid up about 3 Australian dollars for them both, well the head, cab (1x12, 70/80) and the 175. I was happy with the deal. The 175 sounded full and smooth on that TS clean channel with that nice spring reverb. Truly, would have thought that more than twenty-plus years ah haha.
A hidden gem 💎. I have 2 of these. Cool feature is that they have the ability to drive a 4 ohm cabinet. Not many budget amps can. I use my pair in stereo into a Mesa 4 X 12. 2 four ohm inputs to accomplish this.
This have been my amp for 10+ years too. It comes also in a 30 watt version as well as a combo. You will need a good tube-pre amp to get that awesome vintage hard rock tone though.
@@dimitris70 It is sort of a mini amp that goes into your main amp. It requires power supply like a regular amp instead of battery. Usually sounds a lot better than pedals but are more expensive.
My impression of them back then is that they are fizzy sounding, but it worked at the moderate setting you are doing. They are fairly noisy and need some grounding work done by the tech as well.
Thanks Cody! I had level and tone on the TS cranked and varied the overdrive. The amp volume was cranked and about 75% treble, 20% bass for dirty tones and 100% for cleans
I own 2 of those, the loop is not a standard fx loop, it does not bypasses the preamp, it is located after the Boost/TS circuit but before the preamp and poweramp. In case you want to bypass those circuits but not the preamp.
Fun Fact about these amps you can check out. The earliest one say “Nomal” instead of “ normal “ on the front panel. I read is less than 100 like that. I know it’s true because I have one.😊
I can’t stand the sound of tube screamer type pedals, but I’ve heard some people make the sound good in RU-vid demos. I imagine this amp actually sounds much less appealing in person, like the pedals do.
@@JohanSegeborn I'm really impressed that you still can keep finding interesting vintage gear and running the channel like this 👏 Must be quite demanding...
You kids (I am of Johan era or +) just gotta understand that virtually any amp.. tube or solid state sounds the best when cranked to the point of the power stage overloading seriously, and the speaker distorting from being driven hard.. with the cabinet beginning explode. Virtually any amp! That is mainly why your amp that Johan has played will never sound as good. You CANNOT attain this amp nirvana without major volume using a very high percentage of the wattage output of the amp that in turn makes the speaker really break up. Preamp tubes cranked with low to mid master volume settings will never achieve what Johan gets out of every amp he demos.. large or small.. solid state or tube.. lower or higher wattage. It is the physics of combined things I mentioned all gloriously interacting with each other that make the amp bloom with harmonic overtones and dynamic sensitivity but ONLY AT LOUD TO UNBELIEVABLY LOUD VOLUMES.
You should tell your personal opinions at the end of the video, sometimes the tone doesn't go trough recording as good as it does in feel when playing.
Awesome video about this overlooked tube amp. If you buy one of these and aren’t happy with it, Try different 12ax7s. It can make huge difference in tone/volume/response. They can be completely clean without the screamer/boost or dirty like Johanns example. You can footswitch the screamer and boost. Also this amp can run multiple cab configs. The ohm output options are really impressive for a small head.
Great sound, but with whatever prized gear people have, whos making great new guitar music for the world to stand up and pay attention to, or a we past that now?
@@JohanSegeborn That would be a breath of fresh air. Now we have AI creating music perhaps a 70s inspired rock algorithm would be something useful. Not that I think ai should be taking over human creativity. Nice work Johan, love your Chanel.
