I've been reading some of Brendan Braziers recommendations for endurance exercise and the lower intensity of ultras compared to 2 hour or less duration means you need more proteins and fats to help the carbs last longer. It seems to work, I've been using nuts, seeds and some protein powder to go in the oat and fruit smoothie for really long endurance rides (+5hours). I'll take a listen to the podcast you recommended when I get a chance. Thanks for sharing!

Love these more informative videos! Yeah I feel like I learned that carbohydrate metabolism is much more efficient than fatty acid metabolism in basic biochemistry. And how it costs energy to convert carbohydrates to fat, so the body would rather store extra carbs as glycogen. It's crazy to think that all these 'heath professions' allegedly went through the same education but still don't know basic physiology. I'd love to hear your thoughts on exercise vs an active lifestyle. In one of my classes we were talking about sarcopenia and how being sedentary was actually inflammatory to the body, even if you exercised for an hour each day, just the act of sitting down for too long isn't good for your health. So it may actually be better to do regular activity throughout the day than to just go to the gym after work. Additionally, people think that eating more protein will build muscle, but in reality, the only known stimulate for muscle reformation is exercise. And the amino acid leucine (found primarily in animal products), while it does stimulate muscle production through the mTOR pathway also feeds cancer growth.

awesome! yeah tons of great research on the importance of not being sedentary for longevity. movement is so critical for bone and muscle health, especially in elderly populations.

excellent ... but we're not all athletes ... great information for anyone just wanting to be a better person! keep it coming ... there's so much confusion out there, people don't know what to eat ... I'm all for plants! I do high good fats, low carbs ... intermittent fasting
