This was a test of how many bicyclists and pedestrians I could take out. Of course, kids and dogs are bonus points and a definite must. In all seriousness though, thank you to all who have expressed concern. We will take this to heart and do better. At this time, we were on a time crunch and have been scrambling the last several days trying to figure out how to get as much data out to the community as we could. For this day, we were out there for 5 hours doing 38 miles of runs. Not all were speed runs - remember, we're working with a limited battery - so only a few runs were at top speed. Speed drops as battery drops. We had set up a base on the side of the trail to work from and many people stopped to admire and ask about what we were doing. Everyone was amazed and happy we were there - they wanted to see more. On video, you're getting a fisheye view that makes things look closer than it is. I had been doing high speed runs and rides the whole time I've had the wheel and knew how stable and safe it was at these speeds - it has an amazingly high safety margin/overhead built in. I was also very comfortable at the speeds - so neither I, nor the wheel, was pushing past our capabilities. We put in a lot of time and work to learn and test these wheels to get good data that is shared to the company, dealer, and the community. We're not perfect. Well...Marty is, but I absolutely am not. Thank you for your support and we'll continue to do our best to support our community.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I guess you had to be there. YT vids only show a very small edited snapshot of an event which can lead to a distorted perception of the actual situation.
@@AJames-jr8kw exactly! It does change things when you know that we were out there in one spot for 5 hours and all those people loved us being there. You can watch this video with scary music and then with fun/exciting music and it will invoke different emotions.
i think the response shows how loving the community and caring and respectful it is fundamentally for others as well to be able to enjoy the outdoors anyway they feel like it and feel safe. Its nice to see how you guys are handling the feedback too, its all love 💖💖
Thank you for demonstrating the realistic capabilities of this machine. However, as a motorcyclist of over a decade, now EUC enthusiast, and fan of this channel, I have to agree with others in saying that I was a bit disturbed by the limited space Dawn could give while passing pedestrians at those speeds. Yes she rode as responsibly as she could under the circumstances, but really there was no way to make that speed run safe with people & animals on the path. Even if no one does get hurt its just a bad look for the community. A single reckless action today could have years of lasting, or even permanent repercussions for EUCs as a whole.
Yeah I wouldn't feel safe walking around with some kids or toddler running around me, or my dogs if people were zipping around like this, imagine if someone is on one side of the path holding onto a dog on a leash on the other side!! Or someone is simply not paying attention walking around with earbuds, drops something and gets on the path of the euc while reaching for it and catastrophe with potential life altering consequences can ensue. Extremely dangerous and inconsiderate behaviors, that's how serious injuries will occur and speed limit imposed if not outright bans, for good reasons as stated above
Could have killed or injured someone….. I always ride at the relative speed of the vehicles or foot traffic around you. For bike paths with foot traffic I’d only go as fast as a bicyclist.
You can't do 50mph on the roads, unless it is a freeway. Don't see any benefits from this wheel, as you're not allowed to ride that fast on daily basis.
Should probably find someplace without people to do 50 mph runs. At least get on the shoulder, people in the other lane aren't expecting someone at 50 mph. A child could easily step in your way.
We waited for periods where there were few people and NO children. Video compresses distances. You might observe that she actually moved to the opposite side while passing people. Or maybe you didn't.
Found this a bit disturbing as well. I believe Dawn is ex (?) motorcycle racer so as competent at speed as anyone but bisecting cyclists and pedestrians at such close quarters at 50mph/80kmh I suspect will be harmful for euc public image if nothing else.
@@AJames-jr8kw I get safety comments from people seeing me ride 10mph past someone on a trail. Everyone has seemingly different levels of concern. All I can say, is being there and observing traffic patterns all day, we weren't concerned. Thanks for your comment.
Very impressive performance and speed. I wonder how many pedestrians and cyclists on the trail had a little chat with the local authorities? I fear that what they talked about may lead to consequences in the future. Let's hope not. On a positive note, if EUCS become mainstream at these speeds, perhaps special highways may be developed for them.
@@ElectricUnicycles do you have a counter point? I love speed but i agree that a mixed use bike/pedestrian path is not the best place to go 50 mph. The comment is predictable but that doesn’t make it any less valid.
C,mon Dawn. You have to admit that they have a point. Had you lost control for any reason, yourself or that wheel could've injured someone at those speeds. I guess those comments were as "predictable as the sun rising in the east" because you KNOW they have some validity. I'm just saying.
I would love to test this thing and give it a blast on highway, don't really get it why you choose place like this and not just some empty road instead of bicycle path? This is like requesting for some drama :)
Disappointed in you Marty that you think this is OK. By posting it you are condoning it and you then defend it with your reply that you knew people would complain just as the sun rises in the east comment. There is more than one comment condemning this recklessness and I'm pretty sure that there would be some law against it. There is a place and a time for such speeds, but this wasn't one of them. If this was a high-powered ebike it wouldn't be acceptable, because of the near-silent approach of e-bikes. At least gas-powered motorcycles make noise and have way better stopping power than any EUC has. It can't be hard to find a drag strip, a disused runway or even do such a run at dawn and having riders out front like you, to warn and give a heads up to any joggers, cyclists etc out for an early morning run or ride. I'm not your dad and I hate to sound like one.😞
I wouldn't expect you to read all the comments but I have acknowledged that I should do better. Personally, at this stage in life I don't make negative comments online anymore. I keep a positive attitude or don't say anything. But I understand the innate desire for people to express their disapproval of things - human nature.
@@ElectricUnicycles OK Marty, you could however take my comments as constructive rather than see them as negative. My expressions are non ego related, I get no satisfaction out of showing my disdain as I didn't for my comments re the NY bomb. Maybe I just care about fellow humans, their perceptions and most importantly the freedom to have this pastime, without rule, regsand bans. In many countries around the world governments and the police are taking away our freedom to ride, even sensible riders. In the UK and in certain states of Australia where I have lived the police are actively seizing EUC's and sending riders to court, with hefty fines and penalty points affecting future insurance premiums. This type of riding alongside pedestrians and other road users on the streets does nothing to help evolutionary acceptance by governments. You are considered by many to be a smart ambassador of EUC riding.
@@ElectricUnicycles you seem to be trying to wiggle out of this by changing the narrative; it's not about replying to yt videos, it's about being called out for shitty irresponsible and dangerous behaviours and owning up to it like a good person Cheers 🙏💖🫂🌈
@@theUnmanifest I believe that I have acknowledged the misstep (I prefer that word to your not-so-nice words) and to do better. Read some of my other comments in this thread if you have the time. Thanks.
It is this level of irresponsibility toward innocent bystanders and their pets once broadcast by news channels that will rally people to either banning these machines or impose extremely strict regulations. We absolutely can't take this sort of power and freedom for granted and we certainly shouldn't abuse it, this video really should be taken down as it demonstrates the awful truth of what could happen if this 120 lb machine going 50 mph hits a pedestrian. With most states having a law of 15mph max speed limit bike paths are not the best place to test wheels for high speeds. 😡Now that i got that off my chest, THAT WAS AN IMPRESSIVE RUN!!!😍
ah...this was what Dawn was talking about. I know others have expressed this already, but I have to reiterate that going that fast on a multi purpose trail is no no. It is not all about your ability and the wheel. Crashes do happen because of external factors. For an example, I was riding on a park trail about walking speed. Three children walked cross the trail fairly far away from me. One of them decided to cross back without checking my direction when I was passing them. Everyone around me gasped. I was able to stop and avoid hitting her, but if I were going any faster i.e. running speed, I would've hit her, and that would've been my fault.
Yikes. This is exactly the reason the V13 release has me feeling trepidatious. It doesn't matter how experienced you are, ripping it down a bike path occupied by cyclists and pedestrians at highway speeds is unnecessary and irresponsible. Go find a quiet backroad to do stuff like this.
Denis Hagov found that while the V13 is fast you have to really push it to get that speed (unlike say the Master Pro). He found this tiring and not fun. When watching Dawn that is the impression that I get as well. She could push to 52 but it seemed as if the wheel wanted to go mid 40s. It will be interesting to read her comments.
I think when you are riding any wheel at the extremes, it's not a very relaxing experience :-) My next video will provide her commentary including comparisons to the Master.
This sensation people describe as having to push to get to these speeds I believe is purely the sensation of fighting the significant air resistance. Accelerating on an EUC is purely about adjustments to your center of gravity. At these speeds, this requires you to actually lean over the wheel to compensate for the wind. This is going to be a mental barrier for those who are careful and have taught themselves to not over-lean at lower speeds.
@@GiffysChannel let's start with simple fact here: You are NOT allowed to ride 50mph in the city! Regardless of what type of vehicle you use. That is highway speed. And for sure you're not allowed to do that on sidewalk and bicycle lane. Totally pointless wheel, unless you take it to the racing track.
all these bad comments on the performance of dawn at this top speed they are the first to play the scared virgins and regularly exceeded 45 km / h or 28mph
Everyone is piling on Marty and this speed run. I’m sure it was an oversight at the time in terms of how it looked, and I’m sure he will adjust accordingly. Thank you for videos and the love you put into the EUC community.
How do you do an oversight like this, like you wake up one day and decide perdestrials don't matter and will not step out? When I am riding my escooter and I always vigiliant of pedestrians and bikers.
Looks good to me I mean what's the difference between doing 80kmph with a motorbike? if you hit someone on a euc with 50kg or 200kg with a motorcycle it's not a good outcome. I'd rather be hit with 50kg 👌 I rode motorcycles for many years and apart from the brakes and size there is not much difference here. Maybe a tether would make people feel safer but you really want to push it away from you. Its funny to read all these comments and most of the euc community from what I can tell wants speed and range yet they are the first to hate on it when they get it. Okay i was half asleep when writing this here in OZ and thought Dawn was on a road dam yes now I agree that space is small she should have tested on the road not a shared path ?😯😯
Dawn is riding with a tether in this video by the way. And she recently crashed on another wheel at 55 mph with a tether and the wheel did not travel very far. I believe most of the people who write safety comments do not ride very fast themselves. But they have some fair comments which I take to heart for future videos.
@@captnshrms funny, we were there for a couple of hours and people were walking by us and not upset at all. Got lots of questions about what we were riding. No Karen's.
I feel like the performace you are showing is the same as my Exn hs is there a benefit to v13 besides suspension and voltage. I can normally ride at 45 mph down to 20% battery. ive done 49mph on the exn is it worth the couple mph more
Most people aren't recording their GPS speeds. I have my doubts that the EX-N can go 52-mph GPS, but I could be wrong. A person buys the V13 for extreme safety at high speeds. If all you care about is high speed, there are faster wheels than the V13, but you will be riding on the edge of a cutout. The V13 is about quality, reliability, and safety.
Wow. That looked smooth and elegant, but I would never ride that fast standing up. There is too much air plus a shorter distance from the ground. Also, I'd be on a back road.
Look at that car on teh very right in the background.. crazy speed. Do you think someone right under 300 can use this? I test stepped on and rode for a few feet on a v13 and it was magical and felt like a huge upgrade from my 2020 sherman. Would be my first suspension wheel when I save up for it, whats weird tho is the only 265 weight limit. My sherman doesn't beep at even 41 and I carry a backpack with about 20 lbs of stuff in it. Is it because of the shocks? theorteically I could just get it pumped up or do what marty did and add in a much stronger shock. I damn well know that wheel with a higher voltage than a home outlet with motor power almost twice as much as my sherman who already shoots me fast enough can handle it, and the fact it has 2 halls and more mosfs than my sherman. Maybe I should just avoid curbs
These companies always put weird weight and age limits on their wheel. The V13 is a beast of a wheel and I'm sure it could handle your weight. But since I don't have any personal experience at those weights I couldn't guarantee it. Best to try one if possible before buying. You can't change to different shocks on the V13 but you can add more air pressure.
@@ElectricUnicycles oh really? You're allowed to ride 50mph in the Californian cities?! As far as I know, you can do that only on the highway. Cities all over the globe usually limited to 25-30mph.
@@familytvbox5218 Nope. 25mph is certainly on the low end. LOT's of non-highway streets that even have 55mph posted speed limits. I can't speak to the Globe but I do know Southern California.
I'm an EUC rider, and I totally agree with you. That is insanely irresponsible and does put others at risk for no reason. You can't ride at such high speed on a bicycle lane, hell, you can't ride 50mph at any place inside the city!
That’s very impressive and the wheel looked very stable at that speed. However, anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to ride at those speeds on and EUC is clearly one sandwich short of a picnic!
Very awesome looking video, but that's what it takes to get this stuff banned everywhere. I hope I get a chance to ride in a public setting safely before it's illegal. Side note, I wonder if health insurance providers would drop a client who got seriously injured doing this?
Just like people who speed in cars have caused cars to be banned. Or high-speed bicyclists who hit pedestrians (it happens) causes bicycles to be banned. You may not be aware that where we were riding is marked as a "Bicyclist Path" not a "Walking Path". So the people who walk there realize that there are high-speed devices riding by them.
Very impressive! I just pray that powerful motor doesn't end up asking for a higher amperage discharge rate, at those speeds, than what those low amp, high range batteries can provide. Even with redundancy on the pack set up, still makes me nervous. Only time will tell. Fingers crossed!
In AZ a euc is considered a pedestrian with the same rights and responsibilities as a pedestrian so I can cross in the crosswalk while riding …but only up to 17mph(which is fast for a pedestrian). Another law here is bike paths are only for a bike. If I go to 18mph (law states it is valid while speed is measured at up to 2degree grade). So, that’s a question what decides the law after 3 degree grade? So, anyway, I don’t go over 17approx unless I am certain what is on the sidewalk is just me. But CA have their own laws (are any enforced there)? Over 17mph I don’t see any definition of an EUC but I regularly ride in the street at 25 to 40mph so far so good. I am being a hoodlum if I run past people at even a bike speed of day 20mph. The caveat is that a one time risk doing a speed run when there is little foot traffic should still have limits. I would say it’s not a good idea to speed past any pedestrian at 52mph on a pathway but especially if you plan on being an EUC evangelist and wish to get along with the population. Matter not of I get a vote it’s just clear this is my hobby and I will push best practices regardless of how Karen/Ken that sounds (and how raciest calling people that is). I say F off if you call someone a Karen or a Ken.
Zero bicycling laws are enforced in California unless you're on a crowded beach trail but then you won't be going fast there anyway. We have hundreds of miles of bicycle trails are with no enforcement (I think the police have bigger issues to deal with)
Sure, it beeps when you are near the limit and of course the pedals tilt-back. No real possibility of a cutout unless you totally ignore the pedal tilt-back that gets steeper and steeper.
Yeah I gotta second that. We don't need this anymore. We got the raw data we needed/wanted, now it's just a black mark. Just wipe it off man. Some parts of the world are still trying to legalise PEVs in public spaces.
yea? And what is a difference between 50 mph of this wheel versus 50 mph of monster pro released a couples of years ago? Speed is the same, so what a big deal here?
I don't think the Monster Pro can do 52-mph GPS. And at those speeds you have to be extremely careful of cutting out. That is not a concern with the V13. I love my MP but the V13 is a much more enjoyable ride
Geez there's a ton of party poopers in the comments, guessing they aren't locals since if they were they'd know even ebikes and scooters go on the dam around 40-50 too, I get people worry but cops here don't care 🙄 Personally I wouldn't even go those speeds on the top of the dam, I'd be afraid of cutting out and falling down the rockside, I know its a bit wide but I've only been riding for roughly a year, rather not risk it.
It is not about your opinion, it is about the law and common sense. It is illegal to ride 50mph in the city area, regardless of what type of vehicle you use. If there are some people who break the law - it doesn't mean anything. There is a murderer going on in your town too - does it give you the right to kill too? So please don't make those stupid excuses.
Holy wow! Dawn is rippin on that thing! I think what some in the comments might not realize is the effect of the camera lens. It makes things appear much closer to her than they actually are. I don't think anyone was in much danger there except her if a bird didn't look both ways.
It's not wise to go that fast near pedestrian and cyclists, but I could say the same thing about riding on the street in the bike lane next to 2+ ton vehicles. Remember, where you live and your law/habitat is different elsewhere. So, what you used to does NOT meant its the absolute way.
Difference is that in one situation, you're mostly putting yourself at risk. In the other, you're putting yourself and other pedestrians at risk. Pedestrians and bike riders already have enough to worry about with all the cars trying their best to kill them. Get some protected paths like everyone's been asking for, and suddenly there's a 'motor'cyclist riding at 50 mph trying to kill them.
@@updlate4756 Not just yourself, think of all EUC riders that ride on the bicycle lanes next to 2 ton+ vehicles. Down to the danger factors, hitting by a car while riding in bike's lane is potentially way more deathly than EUC hitting a pedestrian. If you are a cyclists, you are forever be down below in the food chain vs vehicles. High performance ebike understood this danger and ride on the vehicle's lane to reduce the risk. Obviously, that would bring new danger sharing with vehicles direct line of sight. So, like motorcycles or any smaller animal in the animal kingdom. You use the whole environment to increase your survivability, bike lane, main lane, pedestrian side walk, bolt as soon as you see green light away from vehicles like motorcycles. "Pedestrians and bike riders already have enough to worry about with all the cars trying their best to kill them." If the general pedestrians got their way, they would have banned cyclists from sharing the path with them. I got hit by a cyclist and broke my leg as a kid, but holding a grudge/being bias would be unsensible. As it played out, both pedestrian and cyclist share the same path, minus the cyclist lane on the roads. In general, vehicles would not "trying their best to kill them" only reckless individuals does, but that's people from all camps. Alot of uninnovative countries in transportation sectors out right banned EUC, new technology, and locked ebike to only 28mph. They are lazy and decided to prevent any danger to the pedestrian and cyclists as we are well aware. Thats technologically death end by the laws. So, +1 for America for not following this. Lions are on top of the food chain and eat anything below it, does not mean we should killed it and create unbalanced ecosystem. Killing lions would be like banning EUC as technologically death end (no hoverboard, no teleportation, no jetpack for your future).
Totally useless and pointless wheel. Way too heavy and yet not as fast as a motorcycle. EUC manufacture went in a very wrong direction. Instead of making compact wheels for urban use, to replace bicycles, they made this beast that is no longer compact and portable. Lifting this thing up will be a problem. What is wrong with those people who think that it is ok to ride EUC at 90kph at bicycle lane? Plus, you can't ride it on the highway, and you can't ride it at top speed on public roads in your city too, as it is illegally fast for the urban roads. So, what is the point of having top speed over 60kmph if you can't ride that fast legally?!
@@ElectricUnicycles Ok. Exact measurements would be best for scientific analysis of the V13's capabilities but this should be enough to say that this is a best case scenario for the V13. Still, very impressive. 👌
50+ mph on a bike / walking path, whizzing by people only a few feet away. Have we ever seen such a blatant disregard for other peoples safety and a clear attempt at getting EUCs completely banned? If not banned, at the very least, those people on the path are gonna be angry, and we all know it's only a matter of time before angry people take matters into their own hands. Stop that. I'm not asking.
I dont care if its been said a thousand times before.. I cant even express my disappointment in this channel, to be so careless and selfish, testing a damn toy, risking peoples lives for youtube content. You´re grown ups, no? I would have called the cops if you zipped past me and my family like that! This is how you represent the EUC community? 'Oh, we´ll do better next time'. Even joking in the pinned comment about hitting people, shame on you.. One malfunction of the wheel, or a human error, and that massive wheel tumbling in 50 mph towards people. Im baffled that none of you thought about this being a really bad spot to test the wheels top speed. Convenient being suited up like that Dawn, yet none of the people you zoom by are, not even close. Imagine crashing, and taken someone with you, taken their life.. You´re damn right you´re taken all the feedback to heart, and doing better next time, if not I hope people there call the cops on you. Go ahead, have a laugh and smirk at yet another predictable negative comment.
