They still fly the Confederate flag because they are "embracing their heritage." My counter argument that is, why aren't you flying the British flag then?

John Burks - that’s not exactly a 1-to-1 comparison. the US left the British Empire, the South tried to leave the US. presumably had they won the Civil War, they wouldn’t also be flying the US flag. plus, the South is still the South, as part as the US... but it’s not part of Britain. either way... I live in a liberal city in the South, we have all types here. the people with Confederate flags or bumper stickers are not racists, and honestly most people don’t care either way... but the ones that it bothers the most the white liberals. I wish it wasn’t an issue.
@@Sam_T2000 it just so happens to be used by people who dont think the civil war was caused because of slavery. Not a liberal, but in no way is that flag a one depicting freedom. It's no better than flying the rest. As someone who has grown in the south and someone who has met and worked with people who fly this flag--- let's just say they use the N word freely and dont mind use any other racial slur (especially Hispanic and black related ones)
I love how always the extend of the argument of why white Black Panther is not okay while black Superman is, is "It's just different", oh ok...that clears that one up. Personally, i don't even want Superman to be white and blonde cuz it fucks up his iconic color scheme.
Hope they do a Superman movie. Michael B Jordan would be cool but I'm more interested on who the director could be. George Miller would be great! Not so sure about JJ Abrams though.

Genuine question. I'm gonna watch The Irishman, but there is no way in heck I'm doing the full 3.5 hours in one sitting. What is a good 'interval' scene/point to take a break? Any suggestions around the halfway/two-thirds point?
I think the action in the Irishman was mundane because it is the point of the movie. The movie shows how unattractive murder is and they have consequences. I don't think the movie should recreate goodfellas as well
ILM is still part of Lucasfilm, which is owned entirely by Disney, who also own Marvel. So, technically the people behind the Marvel films DID help Scorcese make his made for streaming service film.
I imagine that someone has brought up "My Blue Heaven" starring Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, which was based on the suburban life of the same guy who was the focus of "Goodfellas", so there's something of the sequel that you didn't want. Plus, I'm pretty sure you can criticize Scorsese's films without stopping every few sentences to mock yourselves for having any issues with them. He won't have you rubbed out.

Most fans just want the characters in the movies to look like they walked out of the comic book, but with a slight style shift that accounts for live-action details which the comics may not include. I thought thats ALWAYS been the goal...where did things go wrong? When did the industry forget how this works?

too many. The responsible thing to do is to make a new character or modernize an obscure black character. A character of color shouldn't owe it's entire legacy to a prior white version...this is generally a formula for disaster
If you want to know what happened to Henry Hill from goodfellas you can watch interviews with the real guy. Cause he did alot of them towards the end of his life
I will not stand for Michael B Jordan as superman. Fant4stic was his bad film for the decade. We cant have the DCEU drag him down. If they do make it a thing, the script must be an 8/10 a minimum and the executives can only give feed back and input on the corner of their hotel rooms and not be allowed near the set.
the Irishman was okay, but de niro as Irish didnt work for me, also that scene where he beat the shop owner, yeah it looks off, de niro has like a weird stance with his hands kinda drawn back, it looks like he's trying to create that iconic de niro mob guy aggression but it just comes off weird.
There would be outrage if Superman was played by a blond guy, not sure why him being played by a black dude is even up for consideration. It's the same thing with Bond; change him to a black guy and there are so many factors and dynamics that would change, why even use the character in the first place?
Just saying considering they're okay with Michael B. Jordan being Clark Kent then should be okay with a white guy playing Static Shock considering it's not the same thing with Black Panther being replaced.
I definitely believe 'Get Woke, Go Broke'. And you are right, I go see all the movies. Although I am not one who HOPES they go broke by getting woke, it just seems to happen that way... sometimes... except for when it doesn't.
Maybe it's ultimately a good thing that Superman is white. He has historically (since the days of Superman radio dramas) fought against racism and specifically the KKK. Maybe Superman is the role model young white men need. Now if we could just have a good script that properly showcases Superman/Clark's moral code...

While it irks the hell out of me every time they try to change the ethnicity and look of a previously established character, I would watch anything Michael B Jordan is in.... he is an incredible actor. Now for the rant lol - When I go to see a comic book movie about superman, it is cause I want to see a movie on the superman I know and love from the comics. If you are going to change superman to the point that he does not look like superman, then just make him an all new character. Like really, he is either superman or he is another character... I am so tired of this . I would love to see some statistics on how well these re-imagined versions of superheroes are doing at box offices... All female ghostbusters and Fan4stic ... - minus 2 points so far hollywood (and I actually liked Michael B Jordan as Johnny Storm).

I didn't like The Irishman at all. I've just never been a fan of Scorsese movies and this was the most Scorsese movie ever. It looked bad, that "late for a meeting scene" was almost embarrassing, looked like a TV show from the 70s. The acting which is the only thing that usually saves a Scorsese movie for me was all hidden behind unsettling technology. Many of the characters where very poorly written, only really Hoffa stood out at all for me. If I want to spend 3 hours on something slow I'd rather watch something from Tarkovsky or Kubrick or hell even Nolan.
CGI or make up, tihey will always look weird. Just watch and appreciate any movie, it's not easy to make older actors younger. We have become spoiled bratty viewers
Well, no. Criticism is how we develop. So yeah that tech is interesting and certainly useful in certain situations but it's still in an experimental phase atm and i think it's been shown that it makes more sense to cast young actors if you're gonna have action scenes. It's just a tool at a director's disposal.
