Apparently, I was at the Baton Rouge show at Independence Hall. I was 2. My hippy sister would bring me places she wanted to go if she had to babysit. Why you would bring a 2 year old beats me, but I guess she did what she had to to get her groove on. I do know she won the tickets from a radio station giveaway. Independence Hall was considered to be in a really bad part of town. It was also the place where all the regional wrestling was televised from on the weekends. Wish I had an anecdote about Jimmy being great, but I can't imagine the view at 18" tall.

Can't wait till the August episode. I saw Jimi on the 8th of August in Columbia, Maryland. I want to see if the details of that concert match up with mine. I remember it like it was yesterday and I was 14 at the time. I'm now 70.

Excellent! We will certainly be noting the performance, although I believe it was 'FRIDAY 16 August 1968- MERRIWEATHER POST PAVILION, COLUMBIA, MARYLAND' Interestingly, very little information available for this concert. Maybe you have some old newspaper cuttings, or would like to share your recollections? Thank you for your enthusiastic contribution! Cheers.

That last bit, where the photographer mentions that Jimi owned a Chevrolet Chevelle...cannot be true. Hendrix owned a total of two Corvettes, no other type of car. BTW, the photos in this episode are awesome!...Particularly, I loved that shot of Hendrix, in the surf at Mallorca!. There exists a home movie, shot by Noel, that actually shows Jimi striding slowly into the Sea. That film always moves me, to think of his tune "1983".

@@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOWWhat IS true...Jimi, in 1968, did buy his dad a new Chevelle, while visiting in Seattle. I am sure you have seen the photos of Jimi, with his family, standing next to that blue car..The family rode with Jimi, up to the next venue for the Experience, in Vancouver BC. So I guess that we can forgive Mr. Davenport?!..lol. Thank you once again, for your incredible series on my hometown "hero", Jimi Hendrix! Studying his life and times has been my main hobby, after witnessing him play in Seattle, 23 May 1969. I also saw him in 1970, San Diego Cal, while I was stationed there while in the Navy. For what it is worth, I contributed my reviews of seeing Jimi, at both venues, in a publication called "Univibes". Those remembrances were fading a little, but were after all, written around 25 years after I had witnessed Hendrix.

This is an absolutely outstanding episode, packed with fascinating details and great anecdotes, which really bring the story to life. I found the recollections of Kathy, Noel and Keith Altham to be particularly intriguing. The pictures are excellent, too, especially those taken on the Edgware Road and in Gerrard Street. Incidentally, I seem to recall that a young Sting was in the audience at the Woburn Abbey festival. Circa a decade later, of course, he would hook up with Andy Summers, who was the first guitarist that Jimi encountered when he arrived in the UK, and who also jammed with Jimi again in Los Angeles.

Thanks for your kind words. As a number of other viewers have raised, the whereabouts of that guitar are unknown. As far as I can tell, even the meticulous Hendrix researchers have been unable to identify a serial number at least. I suspect the current owner, is likely oblivious to its origins, or as you suggest, reluctant to come forward for fear of legal action perhaps? At the end of the day, without a serial number provenance will be impossible to establish, I should think? Cheers.

Great episode as always-thank you. As a side note, ‘Long hot summer night’ is one of my favourite Jimi compositions. I’ve heard it many times on different albums/CD’s etc… The recording quality always strikes me as not up to the standard of other tracks on Electric Ladyland. Anyone know if there’s a proper remastered version out there? I have the official remastered version on CD-still sounds a bit ‘muddy’ to my ears.
@curbozerboomer1773
@curbozerboomer1773 7 месяцев назад
Well...Jimi, in a filmed interview, mentions with some disgust, that when the album was "cut", the resulting sound came out a little bit muddy. And yes..LHSN is actually my favorite cut on ELL...His playing is so soulful, and his singing is almost Dylan-ish, at times! The lyrics are difficult to hear, or even to interpret....but I think they are pretty sensual in nature!....I mean, "Roman the Candle", etc.

There's footage of Jimi playing a Firemist Silver? Strat at an arena show on the '68 tour. I've often wondered what became of those guitars, the 66/67 style Strats are so cool. Jimi must've literally had a hundred Strats pass through his hands, the greatest to ever do it!.

Does anyone know anything about that purple strat he was shown playing?
@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW
@BELLY_BUTTON_WINDOW 8 месяцев назад
This is the most comprehensive reference I'm aware of, Shapiro & Glebbeek: 'Electric Gypsy', P630: "1968 Fender Stratocaster, serial no. unknown, colour M/Blue, Neck rosewood; Owner/comments: used in Zurich 31/5/68 and Singer Bowl 23/8/68". However, as confirmed by James Davenport's photography, it was also played at Shreveport 31/7/68. It just goes to show that after five plus decades, the trail has vanished. It was stolen not long after the Singer Bowl concert, most likely pawned and destined to obscurity! Cheers.

Great question, but unlikely given that the five plus decades that have elapsed. Keep in mind also that, there is a very serious market for celebrity guitars amongst wealthy collectors. Who knows? Shapiro and Glebbeek list the 1968 black Les Paul as "owner unknown". Cheers.

Good point. I believe the official colour was Metallic Blue, according to Shapiro & Glebbeek. In our video, we have quoted James Davenport who referred to it as being Biscayne Blue, but which in some pictures looks purple of even grey. Note that, I used an image of a 'Fender 2018 Ultra Violet Jimi Hendrix Stratocaster' in the introductory segment. Hope that clarifies. Cheers.
