In the 1950s, the design of the 10 Series and location of European manufacture at Mannheim were, in hindsight, two of the best business strategies of all time. Never saw a Deere here in the west of Ireland in 60's, but in the late 70's, contractors started buying them. Now there's plenty of them around.

Absolutely.. The German factory gave them a great foothold in Europe. The 10 series certainly elevated them in terms of technology and style. Thanks for watching 👍

Great video Alan, very informative. It’s one tractor I have never driven is a Deere. Would not be as common up my way. 👍💪

Your not missing much Cathal!!!!you need to remortgage the farm when it breaks, just like the CRAPPY 2 I drive !!!!!, just stay red😊..... much better then go green and go broke, can't understand why the professor and his wife likes them?🙄, maybe they like seeing me suffer, like their sheep!!!🤔👍

Another great video Alan.I can still remember the first Deere I drove in 1972, it was a 2020 that had been traded in Malones against a Massey 165.I can remember pushing up silage with it.When starting it you had to turn the steering wheel and push the starter button at the same time,it,s only lately I found out the reason why... In them days Sherrard,s were the agents and I think they also did Steyr
@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery
@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery Месяц назад
Thanks Pat.. Yes, lot of those Deeres required steering wheel input to get them to start alright 🤣

Alan at his best. You can tell when he has a favourite (JD), as he goes it a lot of detail, most from memory. To tell the truth Alan, I'm going to have to watch at least twice to get all the details I want out of this as it is the era I was involved. Never could get my head round the deere numbering scheme.=, so need to rerun. Thanks from UK

@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery Месяц назад
Thanks Ian. Yes growing up almost exclusively on John Deeres, working and repairing them, I got to know them pretty much inside out (literally) The numbering system can be confusing to some people, as they used different systems for Europe and the US. Thanks for watching 👍

When I was sixteen I drove a few weeks with a 6400. A dream of a tractor. Quiet cab, power shuttle and power quad gearbox. I still am in love with it. I now have a 5090E, which is ok but nothing to shout home about. Here in South America we have the 6J series which I think comes close to my 6400 dream tractor. The base model is the 6105J, four cylinder. I seriously am considering getting one. You only live once... I did drive quite a few of the 50 series with SG2 cab. I did not really mind the missing door but I did find them very noisy. Mind you, they were quite old by the time I used them. I have fond memories of a 3350 though, despite being old and having some quirks, it was a cool tractor.

Thanks for watching. When the 6400 came out in the early 90s, it sure was a dream of a tractor 🚜

@@AgrimotiveFarmMachinery To be honest, it still isn't to shabby compared with newer ones if all is in working order. I more recently worked quite a few hours on the 6506, six cylinder version. Also very nice to drive if well maintained to this day with over 10000 hours on them.

Roller round baling after a rotary combine could be nigh impossible!!Wait until Sun went down rather middle of the day,Deere belt balers did handle it though.Straw has always had value in my area very rare to see a chopper,possibly on headland,.That's why we had Deere combines and balers but Ford/MF tractors!!Mind you Deere tractors soon caught on as especially fergie lost it's way,dealerships changing etc,etc!👍🚜

I had a 955 header as we call them here in Australia. It was a totally different to the US built 7720 and nowhere near as good a machine with a lot less capacity. The only thing it had in common was the front which was a 22 ft 200 series front adapted by JD here in Australia for our conditions. Every one including me really wanted a 7720 or 8820 but the European machines were cheaper. Generally any US built JD will be tougher than the European counterparts.

Thanks, David. The old 3040 were a superb machine in their day. I've had the pleasure of driving many of them, 2WD, 4WD, with OPU and SG2 cabs. I'd love to get my hands on a 3140 4WD one day. Thanks for watching 👍
