+villfer78 that's flawed logic. they aren't producing just one pineapple they produce many baby plants that then flower and fruit and also the baby plant that comes from the top of the harvested pineapple. do they take awhile to grow yes they do but you get much more than just a pineapple and can have different plants growing fruit at different times.
@Jefferdaughter

For those living in very warm climates, like southern Florida or California, it costs people who have a yard nothing to grow pineapples. They can simply plant the tops in a sunny location in their yard and ignore them until the fruit is ready to harvest. Since the tops come with the pineapples which are purchased for food, it costs nothing to plant them. One family in Florida plants them around the base of the trees in their yard, making a the most attractive part of their otherwise minimal landscaping. They just pulled up the sod, planted the pineapple tops, and mulched. Using untreated shredded bark mulch, this suppresses nearly all weeds, and only needs to be replenished rarely. (Treated or colored mulch contains chemicals which could be absorbed by the plants and is not a good idea.) Their yard is much more attractive with the pineapple plants growing around the base of their trees, plus it is easier to mow. They could have purchased ornamental plants, but instead chose to plant pineapple tops - and now they replant the tops of the pineapples they harvest, and the 'pups' or shoots that form off the stalks of the pineapple plants, so it costs them nothing to keep it going, and takes only a few minutes of their time. Sounds pretty logical to me.

I had the same problem. A Facebook friend told me to wrap the plant in a air tight plastic bag with a rotten apple. I did that and almost instantly i had my pineapple flower and my pineapple was almost twice the size as his. The mother plant won't produce again but it will give you other shoots that will. If you cut it off when is not ripe enough it won't ripped anymore. Wait till it's a golden color all over. I wish I could find my pictures of my pineapple pineapple. Good luck

I have one growing on my patio for 4 months now. When I was in highschool my mom moved into a house once that had 3 pineapple plants hidden in the corner of the backyard, and one day while playing with my dog I noticed a weird looking plant and I was like is that a pineapple. Well of course I went to check it out and there were 3 pineapples that grew and I screamed with excitement and ran and told my mom and siblings. We ate them when they turned yellow. That was the best and juiciest pineapple I ever had thanks to the people who lived there before.

I got a pineapple top to grow once and had it indoors for a couple of years in an 8-inch pot. It didn’t grow a pineapple but it was very satisfying to see it grow. Unfortunately I read on the internet that you should water them from the top, letting water into the leaves. This resulted in the plant rotting and dying. Later I read that they are very sensitive to rotting, so you have to be careful not to overwater! Where I live it’s more cool and humid so that is a big problem. I hope to try again but subsequent attempts have failed to root. One day, I will have my pineapple. It will be ripe and sweet and tiny. I will be a proud plant parent.

I did the same thing with a nice leafy pineapple top. It took a while to take root, then I put it into a 1 gallon pot with some nice loose soil. After almost a year I transplanted the plant into a 5 gallon container and a few months later it started to flower. LONG STORY, after ANOTHER YEAR the pineapple fruit was as large as a cantaloupe. When it turned a nice yellow color and smelled great we harvested it. After a through washing my wife and I ate it SKIN AND ALL, so delicious. After harvest the mother plant has now developed two new heads, so who knows ? Maybe a double harvest in a couple years. Good things come to those who wait. And, yes we live in Sunny So. CAL.

I think that you will find that the second set of fruits aren’t going to grow as big as the first one, but will be ok, but anything after that won’t amount to anything at all. Commercial pineapple plantations usually harvest the first pineapple, then the second ones (which are smaller even in commercial operations) and then they plow the plants under and replant.

i’m growing a few pineapples in the west indies. at the end of the video you speak about the hope of a 2nd fruit from the same plant. i use this offgrowing , side spring directly as a new plant. the part wich gave the fruit, i let it dry off after reaping .during the dry season rainy time cut the leafs away and plant it .directly into the soil. most likely it works in a pot too .(following his method)

Helpful, but I would add some other tips. In Florida, pineapples are as easy to grow as weeds ... even in sandy soil, if you feed them, but beds or 5+ gallon pots work great. Starting with about 4 tops I now have about 50 plants and got 35 pineapples this year (about 10 as large as store bought. Yes, after 1st fruit (12-24mo), you will get pineapples to eat every year DO NOT HARVEST UNTIL RIPE and completely golden yellow and no green in the seems. You have never even a good pineapple until you have one picked ripe. If he had waited another week or so, the pineapple would just snap off. No cutting needed and would be 3x sweeter (far less acidic). However you may need to protect fruit with wire cages around the fruit to keep racoon from getting them. In Florida, naturally, bloom comes up early February ...fruit ready in July, but you can fertilize differently to force blooms at different times of year. They reproduce by shoots at bottom or little pineapple plant 'buds' that grow occasionally on side of plant. Simply snap off and replant. Pineapples can handle heavy rain or dry spells and even some frost. Do not let freeze. They make great decorative landscape plants. I grow them in front yard. They like full sun, but I have grown big ones in the shade 40% of the day.

They are lovely potted plants, though “spiney” so be careful. I can’t wait until the fruit is ripe & I hope I get a second shoot. I don't know if I would have transplanted the pineapple because for such a slow growing plant a constant flow of nutrients is important. So disturbing the roots might slow down growth significantly as the plant has to redirect energy from growing the fruit to re-establishing its root system. Just my thought. Excellent video by him though.

@MODITES it’s possible but it would probably require special lights and a warm room to actually grow them as here in England, it probably isn’t warm enough or sunny enough (it’s raining as I speak). However, you could probably grow the plant indoors but not expect any actual, edible pineapples to grow.

Hi, i have a pine apple farm. Have about 3000+ plants right now.. Firstly, kudos to your patience to video the whole process. My suggestion: if u plant the crown on top of the fruit, it will take 2yrs avg to fruit, and fruit will get succesively smaller. If u plant the Daughter bud that grows below the fruit (on the mother plant) it would bear fruit much earlier, in about 10-11 months, also the fruit size will be bigger, i get fruits weighing each about 4-5kilograms. Fertilizer: compost, NPK etc should be great. Watering: well draining soil. Sunlight: full sunlight for 6-8hrs is ideal.
