This is the follow-up video that I promised during the Bailey Victor No12 1/2 video posted on 26 May 2022. If you haven’t watched the first one yet, be sure to check it out!
In this video I take the items out and get a little philosophical about evaporust and cleaning up individual components.
Thanks for tuning in!

I agree with your premise that rust removal is the primary driving goal. I did not realize that the gray finish resulting from evaporust could be somewhat mitigated by a light 220 scuffing. That was “ worth the price of admission” on this video. Thanks so much!

Another solid video MJ. The planes and parts I got from you are all cleaned up and working fantastic. My unk used tell me "do you want it pretty or working". Thanks again MJ.

Agreed 100%. Much more important that they work. I do have a few shelf queens that don’t see much action but then, I’m a bit of a plane hoarder soooo…

Evaporust works just fine .I find people don't like this or that, who cares. The first thing is to identify what you trying to achieve. That's the most important thing and also the RPPC's will always give you heartburn, it's your plane just try not to frigg it up too bad lol, and enjoy the process and the using. Thanks for the vid MJ.

I don’t like to do anything that can’t be undone, especially if it’s a collectible plane. But a type 19 rust bucket 🪣? Anything goes

I've found that if you pull your parts from Evapo Rust and immediately take a wire brush to them under hot water, I can get rid of a lot of the undesirable grayness, before I even take it to the next step of sanding and buffing. Something about the parts while they're still wet makes it easier to work with. After that, I towel dry and begin the sanding process, followed by the stropping if the part requires it.

@@justplanefun I have to say, we all joked on Facebook about you getting a good mic with your RU-vid royalties (and they're not wrong) But I really wanted to tell you, I absolutely enjoy your page and your RU-vid channel. When I can afford to be a patron, I plan on doing it. Thank you

There's a guy in a local antique shop that always has Stanley planes but every single one of them has been soaked in Evaporust. It's awful and he wants top dollar for them. I love the stuff for what it does but if the plating is gone, then you need a flat solid surface, several grits of sandpaper and some kind of sanding lubricant. Time to polish.

I use it for nuts and bolts but unless a plane is really, really bad off I won’t soak a sole in it (I don’t recall if I mentioned that in this video or not). Sounds like his inventory might be sitting there for a while

Evaporust gets into (and under) the places that abrasives cannot reach, removes the rust, and gives more life back to the tool by doing that. IMO, dull color steel in an area is better than rusty steel. And when you follow up (on broad areas) with abrasives, it makes it a lot easier to shine up once the rust is gone. Some angry bearded man is gonna take a dump on me now, but it’s okay.
