It’s the evolution of the Stanley No45 - Vol. 1! How did the No45 combination plane come to be?

This video covers just a few of the planes that came before the Stanley No45 and shows what led up to and what contributed to the development of Stanley’s most popular combination plane.
Take a trip back in time to see what combination planes looked like in the years leading up to the release of the Stanley No45 in 1884.

That No 55 and SW No 45 were beautiful. The No 50, 55, 46 and 47 are on my list of planes to purchase.

Thank you for another very informative video! No, it did not sound like an advertisement, but I wouldn't mind even if it did. I'm learning a lot about combination planes here.

David Heckel wrote the most extensive book on the No45 originally and now Tom Reagor is the defacto No45 expert (thankfully he’s on FB). My intent with these videos is to bring the information to even more tool folks since not everyone is going to buy the book

Thanks MJ. Great video! I’m still looking for a set of cutters for my no 45. I need the “notched” type of cutters.

I’ll have a complete set, (or darn close to it) by next week for sure. I’m buying a collection from someone out of state. As long as one of the No45s is woefully incomplete, it’ll be ok for me to separate the irons from it

It’s definitely on the list, I just haven’t made the time to get it together. Gonna have to see if I can get that video made sometime in the next few weeks or so

Is the David Heckel book about the Stanley 45 available, or in print?
@justplanefun
@justplanefun Год назад
To the best of my knowledge, it’s out of print. I have one spare copy of it (for sale) and I believe they can still be purchased second-hand on eBay. If you’re interested in the one I have, feel free to email me at jplanefun@gmail.com

We’ll have to see what we can work out. He definitely has a lot more complete No45s of all the varying types than I’ll ever have access to
