Said that at the time clock on tuesday morning. Actually, every Tuesday. One of the kids said : I never heard that. I said I'm switchin to glide ,go Google that! 😂
@@thekingsarehere Hey, thank you!! This is the song that unleashed the weekend energy & instantly totally altered the vibe to glide, from my childhood on the way home on the bus on Fridays, through my 20s, instant positive energy! I've always played it, since! It makes me immediately grin, & suddenly I'm not at all tired! It's almost like magic, just whoosh, rejuvenated! ❤️ Thanks! All the best to all of you! 🤙
Everytime I hear this song, it's suddenly summer and I'm going northbound on the I-94 to Six Flags Great America (Gurnee, IL) and just over the tree tops to my left, I can see a section of the American Eagle rollercoaster and my adrenaline kicks in. THAT is where I go every-time I listen to this song. And for that, I must thank The Kings for a great song that's truly a time machine for me.
We are always amazed at the memories that music brings to life, it happens to us too! Thanks for this glimpse into pure Americana @moonytheloony6516, we love it!
We went there when our 8th grade class scored a free trip there. I remember this song on the radio of the bus! Of course the rest of my time in Johnsburg Jr High was hell. I was so antisocial and a target.... It was called Marriott's Great America at the time.
Just made that drive and this song is on my Playlist. I always have to point out to my kids, the area where you can see the coasters just over the tree tops, as if the haven't seen it many times before. 😅 My dad used to do the same when I was a kid, at that time it was only The Eagle that could be seen. Good memories. 🫶
@@thekingsarehere Honestly? Not really. Yep, lot's of great stuff out there. This song was an ANTHEM!! It epitomized the start of the 80s....I lived it large then, and this song was apart of that... thanks!!
The transition from This Beat Goes On to Switchin' to Glide is one of those transcendent moments in rock music, where you can't believe something this good exists. I was aware of this song because of my dad listening to album rock radio in the car in the '90s, but it's only now, closer to middle-age, where I can appreciate fully how great this is. Like "Driver's Seat" or "Ah! Leah!", it's one of those songs that's easy to fall through the cracks for years if not decades, but then you hear it again and just say "oh my god, THIS song!!!"
What a great comment Jonathan, thanks so much, when we hear it, we really feel that all the work we put into it paid off, it sounds great. Here's the story: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K4uz7tuTIfo.html
Seems patriotic to us @twallace71a! Here we are doing the 'other' one and the US anthem too! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QcDYNOLkEKE.html
It's the Universal Weekend Anthem! Canada can have it, but you're gonna have to share! My cousins in Ireland rock it on Fridays too! & I know some girls in Ukraine that are using it to keep their spirits up, restore a little normal energy in an insane time, jump around & dance & let loose for a few instead of swallowing the worries. "Energy can be directed...." Yes, it can!
Some bands have a song they do so damn well it doesn't matter if they never released another song they are still legends. This is one of those bands. I don't know a single soul who doesn't like this song.
@@ELEcomments It would've done better but there was a lot of music biz politics going on at the time that we got caught up in... thanks for your great support ELEcomments!

We Canadians are lucky to have grown up with great songs on Canadian radio. Nothing but great memories of cruzing with the windows down listening to this awesome song. Great Memories
I grew up 15 miles across the Strait from Victoria in Port Angeles Washington, late 70's and 80's listening to the Canadien legends...Trooper,Chiliwack,Stonebolt,The Headpins you know the crew!!

@@thekingsarehere In Phoenix, AZ radio stations used to play this song every Friday at 6:00 pm. A great way to officially start the weekend. I always loved this song

I live across the river from Windsor. The best radio stations in the 80's & 90's were from Canada. Some great Canadian bands you never hear from mega-media conglomerate US stations.
Funny because we were asked recently if there was a karaoke version and of course there is somewhere because we sang it as well in a bar in New Jersey after a gig... and yes, we were having a few as well, thanks danuschild!
Starting around 1983 or so, the largest rock station in Columbus, WLVQ FM96.3 started playing "This Beat Goes On\Switchin' to Glide" every Friday at 5PM. It became a tradition that went on for decades. (They still might do it for all I know.) This song became synonymous with the weekend and good times! So everytime I hear it, I'm flooded with 40+ years of great memories, everytime. It transports me back to being a late teen early twentysomething young man in the 80s getting ready to go out on a date or just hang with friends. Thank you, Kings! This song has been a priceless gift! Mr Zero, Dave Diamond, Sonny Keyes, you did a good thing when you loosed this track into the world fellas!
In my opinion, the greatest Canadian rock n’ roll song of all time. No matter my mood, this song makes me happy. And I live my life by the words “I don’t give a hoot about what people have to say, I’m laughing as I’m analyzed.” Zero knocked it out of the park with that lyric.
He says thanks so much for that Mike's VoB, and thanks for the superlative comment! If you saw our documentary, you know that it went through a lot of rewrites to get it the way it is now and it was worth all the time and effort!
@@mikesvideosofbeavers Thanks we are proud of it as well because it's us telling our story and it's funny how everyone has a different memory of the same events...
Guys, I always come back. I told you my 26 year old son loves this song. I have played it at his Birthday party's, since he was born. For me, in the early years, But his friends love it. As I do. I now play it for them, because they request it. Jamming to this right now. :-)
We love that Bryan, thanks for bringing a younger generation into it, everyone says rock and roll is dead or dying but we feel people are starved for it. Please check out our new one, the link is above in the blurb... we are very proud of it!
One thing I love about being Canadian is the amount of great artists our country has and continues to produce. I grew up in Southern Ontario and heard so many great bands that made an impact on my life, from the Kings to Max Webster to Rough Trade, so on and so forth. Thank you for giving us all great memories to cherish.
Hey Mark thanks for the great comment and you are right of course, lots of great talent from Canada and some real superstars like Celine and Shania, Neil Young and Rush and more. We can all thank the cancon rules for helping to build a real music business here that supports homegrown artists!
@@markd8469 I would never forget April Wine but they are well known at least across Canada and even had some success in the US, if I remember correctly I think they even had a couple of videos on Mtv in the early 80's. I was just trying to give props to a couple of bands that didn't get as much airplay and attention back in the 70s-80s outside of Canada or southern Ontario, Max Webster in particular.
@@thekingsarehere Wow that's awesome, must have been thrill to be on that bill. music was so awesome in those days. Still have cassettes from Triumph, Prism, Lighthouse, Stampeders, Trooper, Goddo, David Wilcox, Fludd and many more Great Canadian Bands, Man those were the days! Glad I grew up in that era.
A while back, I worked in radio. I found out they had a remastered version of the CD. I wrote to find out how to purchase one for the station. They sent me a personal copy with a note from Zero to play often! And we did, every Friday at 5. I still have it...along with my mom's cassette from 1980!
Oh I remember those Friday afternoons when this came out. KDF in Nashville did that too. The 5:00 kickoff to the weekend! What a time to be young and alive!!!
Can you say ....? Lunatics anonymous that's where I belong! Love this song 4 ever & always... Yeah this beat goes on, still in 2022 ❤️ The Kings) Ty for the great memories I do recall from this song.
dig this, gave a DJ last night at a club on the jersey Shore 20$ to play this song. Half way through the dance floor was full. He wound up playing it again half hour later and the place went crazy. This song is cool and high energy!! Switch me to glide bitches!!!!!!
One of my favorite songs ever since the first time I heard it on WLS Chicago back in 1980! And what more can you say when it still gets played even now every Friday night at 5pm to kick off the weekend on Rock stations all across the United States!
Thanks Patrick Delino, that is quite the comment! We are really humbled by the incredible feedback we get here and we are so happy that we made this video a few years back. There never was one back in the day and this shows us as we'd like to be remembered, onstage rocking out. We worked hard on all aspects of this piece and you can see that in the documentary on our channel as well. Much appreciated.
Kshe 95 is playing their top 1000 songs over the holiday weekend Switching to glide was 700 something. Should be in top 50 in my book but so glad it’s still relevant on Kshe. Alway happy to hear this gem. Love you guys

Thanks so much, music memories are very strong for sure G Money, all of a sudden your young friends are there with you in your first car blasting music and going somewhere fun...!
You know those rare moments in life when everything falls into place and you are truly in the "zone" with the world at your feet? I can tell you guys were in that place when you laid this track down. Truly unique and timeless.
+Purrelli As we say in our DVD, after years of rehearsing and writing and doing shows, we were ready when opportunity came knocking. In other words, we had paid our dues.... who does that anymore? Thanks for the nice comment.
is this really someone from the band? well I got to tell you this just randomly happened for me to come across this song today and it is truly an amazing experience. great great tune. . .
I heard these totally rocking songs on the radio in Philadelphia, PA, in 1980. And I have read many of the comments here. All we have are moments, and it is clear that this band brought timeless, wonderful moments to so many. That is an incredible gift from The Kings -cherish it.
Thanks so much for this amazing comment John, we're some guys from the Toronto suburbs who dreamed big and worked hard on our songwriting and playing chops and when opportunity came knocking, we were ready. The comments say it all, the music touched a lot of people and while we never made it big, we are eternally grateful that we reached so many in such a positive way. And our new album is great!
Heard Alice Cooper play this on his radio show a couple weeks ago. Never heard it before that, now I'm stuck on it. Thank you, Mr. Cooper, and thank you to the band for writing this awesome song.
This song will never get old. Talk about feel good tunes, "Switchin' To Glide" is at the top of the list. Plus, I love this video, the way it was put together. It flashes from performance to performance without being manic. Bless The Kings!
Thanks Mitch, because this came out the year before MTV there never was a video for it and so the timing for us wasn't great because we were a visual band...but...the videos from then mostly suck and so many years later we decided to make our own to be the basis of our documentary "Anatomy of a One-Hit Wonder". Both projects took a lot of work but we are happy with the results. The quick cuts are because it went out of sync really quickly from the different live tempos and we wanted it perfect.
As a Canadian Gen X'er, this was a staple on both the FM and AM dial. Still being played over the airwaves and in many of my playlists. One of the few handfuls of tracks that takes me back to the best times I've had. =)
Rolling thru downtown Buffalo NY, looking over at Canada...this tune playing on some Canadian radio station. In that moment, I forgave Canada for giving us Nickelback.
Yeah Dr Ed, it's cool Buffalo gets our radio stations, we grew up with Buffalo TV which gave us a lot of insight into the USA, love it! And Nickelback... well they are successful and we aren't so... more power to them!
@@thekingsarehere If it helps, I've met a few online people from the US and I've mentioned this song and they knew it and liked it.. and we are from the "youngest generation" too, who know good music when we hear it.
@@Legends_Of_Rock Great to hear that, we know that while rock music isn't the cultural force it once was, it still has a future, and our new album is going to be great!
Back again! Realized exactly why my pickup had 200 watts and 8 speakers. And understand now why I'm slightly deaf. The Kings, Toronto, and Bachman/Turner........... Canadian summer. Of course we played them in the winter too, but, in the summer, the people in the car beside you could hear the music clearly. VERY Clearly.. To the Gents of The Kings....... Thanks, y'all made summers good.
Thanks Bruce, that shows the power of radio right there doesn't it? It's a drag what has happened to rock music and rock radio but it just isn't the cultural force it once was, but we carry on regardless!
I had open heart surgery in 2017 and had complications that made me feel like a zombie. I didn't want to even talk to anybody, much less listen to music. For four months I slept in a chair because I couldn't breathe. This is the very first upbeat song I played when I started to feel a little better. Just thought you might like to know that. I've always loved this song.
Man, I heard this for the first time sometime around 1982 when I was assigned to Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, California. We were cruising around in my friend's Delta 88 one Saturday afternoon, going nowhere, literally and figuratively, stoned, when this song came on the radio. Every once in awhile, we would catch it on the shop FM in the hanger. This song captures the very essence of being 20 years of age and living in southern Cali in the 80s. We were all "switching to glide" in those days, with most of us looking at our enlistments ending in a few months and heading off to college soon thereafter, which gave special meaning to the lyrics "I'll find a way out of this hole, you know!". And we did. Its been nearly 40 years now and this song STILL makes me fell like I'm 20!!! THAT, my friends, is the mark of a true classic.
First thanks for serving your country CaesarinVa, and we love hearing these stories, amazing to think something some Canadian guys did had that much reach and made people so happy. While we never made big money at it, we had a look at the big time and what remains is our dedication to keep making music and the loyalty of the folks who like what we do, it means more than you can know.

Takes me back to riding on my schwinn stingway and taping my radio to the cross bar listening to KSHE 95 the Rock of St. Louis in the 95 degree heat! Nothing can take those memories away, when the world seemed so huge and everyday was an adventure!
from the opening guitar riff, to the great bass and the organ....everything just works. it's like the perfect party rock song to get ready for the weekend. have my older bro to thank for hearing this one.....he would constantly have it on the loop (chicago classic rock radio station) and still remember the first time i heard it. couldn't wait to hear it again. how this song never got huge is a mystery to me. it works on so many levels. and how an 80's movie soundtrack never used it is beyond me. AND, how was this song NOT in a guitar hero or rock band game?!?!?! was hoping when those games were in their heyday that this song would eventually get snatched up but it never did for some odd reason. it would have been PERFECT for one of those games!!!!
Really? I mean REEAALLYY? 48 people took the time to say "I don't like this song" I feel sorry for them and have no explanation as to why..... This is bar-none, one of the most Classic Anthem's of it's time, and shows it's true test of time with it's popularity still today. The catchy lyrics are repeated verbatim as witnessed by all comments below by others. Here in Western Canada, it has been a staple in nightclubs and on the local FM channel on it's Saturday KISS FM Classics......... "I don't give a hoot about what people have to say, I'm laughin' as I'm analyzed, lunatics anonymous.. that's where I belong... and on and on and on............ This beat goes on..... Switchin to glide......................... Keep rockin' boys!!!!!!!
Well, 48 curmudgeons out of more than half a million plays ain't too bad! We appreciate your kind comment and would love to get back out to Western Canada again next year.
