Thanks for the kind comment, Edward! I tend to prefer verse-by-verse for in-depth study, because it helps me read slowly. But I like the paragraph setting for devotional reading. I'll be interested to see how the LSB fares over the next few years, particularly against its relatives (the '95 and 2020 NASBs).

@@RGrantJones I understand that quite a few people give the ability to read slowly and navigation as the reason to prefer verse by verse over paragraphs, but I find personally that with paragraph setting, I'm able to control my own pace. If I want to speed read I can and if want to read slowly I can, just like I do when reading any other book. Literature was a subject I absolutely loved in high schools because I had to do a lot of reading and I did read quite a bit of Shakespeare and other poetry and also much prose, so it helped shape my reading and understanding of what I read, when you saw the different writing styles and genres. The first Bible I read was the KJV and it being verse by verse, I did struggle somewhat with the verse by verse prose sections, it was difficult to seen the transition from one genre to the next, especially in places like Ecclesiates a d Jeremiah. Reading Shakespeare was some help in reading the KJV, but I soon started to use the NKJV and that has one of, if not, the best layout of any Bible I know, I found my Bible layout, all be it that time it was double column paragraph and not single column. I don't find single column paragraph difficult for study. Some say it's hard to find the verses but I haven't had that difficulty, at least not in the one I have. I'm hoping to get the ESV Preaching Bible some time this year but I'm going for the paragraphed one because it has the poetic settings while the verse by verse option is laid out like a KJV, it does have a concordance that I wished the paragraphed one had. But I'd choose the layout over the concordance even though I'd really would have liked it. If the verse by very edition had the poetic setting I think I'd choose it instead, but I want to read the Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah and the rest of the poetry like poetry because that is how I believe they were meant to be read. It must be a reason why it was written as poetry in the fiery place. As to LSB, let see how that one goes. A lot of people have expressed interest in it so far and there is a following already. I just don't know that their will be much difference between it and what was already there. Unless there is going to be some faith defining changes due to some archaeologicsl or lexicographical find or they suddenly discover the original manuscripts that the Bible authors pen, then I just don't see the need for a new English Bible translation.

@@edwardgraham9443 I agree with you about paragraph vs. verse by verse Bibles. However, I think there have been some studies that have shown that wide paragraphs can interfere with reading comprehension, and I have noticed that myself. Whether I prefer a single-column or a two-column Bible depends on how wide the column is and on the font size.

@@jimmu2008 That is my own position as well. If the paragraph is too wide then it makes tracking from one line to the next somewhat fatiguing and you can easily lose your place. The optimal for a paragraph on a single column layout should be 9 to 12 words per line, but most single column Bibles have 14 words per line. Poetry is where single column Bibles shine the most and since a lot of the Bible, especially the Old Testament is poetry, it makes reading for me a bit easier. My intention when I pick up the Bible is to read and understand so that I can make applications to my life. Some say they read verse by verse because it makes them read slower, but I find the verse by verse often breaks up the author's train thought and often at the wrong place and that can affect understanding and interpretation. I can speed up and slow down my reading when I want, I'm in total control with a paragraph setting. With verse by verse, I have a lot more work to do to get the meaning and context of what is written. Reading prophecy in paragraph layout let what is said flow freer than when broken into verses. Another place where the paragraph is absolutely helpful is in the epistles, especially when one considers that each epistle is actually one single letter, however long or short it might be. I'm having a little battle dicphering between double column or single column paragraph, but I'm learning more toward single column. I just need to find an affordable ESV that fits this desire.

@Adam H Well if I could afford to get one it would be the ESV Preaching Bible or the ESV Omega, but the Preaching Bible more so but these are very expensive Bibles, way too expensive for me, it would take me maybe a couple of years to save enough money to get one. If they are available in Trutone covers, I'd take that too.

The closest approximation to a premium Bible for Catholics I'm aware of is Schuyler's RSV Quentel. It's in the 1971 RSV, not the RSVCE or the RSV2CE. The Augustine Bible in the ESV-CE is sewn. If you don't mind using an older Bible, you may be able to find a Jerusalem Bible Reader's Edition in sheepskin. LORD is how the new testament authors quoted the old testament, so the translations into English mostly followed that pattern. Bondservant, servant or slave are are contextually appropriate renderings. My wife speaks three languages it can be rough translating especially carrying over or preventing connotations of the words.

that intro is mostly the standard nasb intro that i have read in certain variants of the nasb that don't include the full notes. However the lsb does have additions in its own intro that make me wonder why they left the information about notes intact.

Me neither, I much prefer the paragraph format. It actually looks worst than a menu to me and more like a list. It makes whole Bible seem like a concordance to me.
