Peter Klutt presents the Legendary 1966 GT40 MKII-B. A closer look at the original 1966 GT40 that raced at Le Mans in 1966 and 1967 with Dan Gurney behind the wheel. This car is one of the few GT40s involving both Carroll Shelby and Holman-Moody. This car was the pole sitter at Le Mans in 1966 setting the all time fastest lap at Le Mans at the time, and lead the majority of the race. This car also sat on the pole at the 24HR of Daytona in 1967 with Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt as the drivers.
In 1967 at Le Mans was one of three GT40s converted to MKII-B specifications with only two cars recieving the complete upgrades.
After It's racing career the car was hidden in Japan until being brought back to the USA and restored to exact 1967 Le Mans specifications by two of the foremost GT40 restoration shops. in 2016 the car was shown at pebble beach concours d'elegance and placed 1st in its class.

British automotive royalty. They were conceived, designed, engineered, built and raced out of Slough, UK by Lola. the MK1,2,3 gt40s were as British as the bowler hat or apple pie. Yeah, apple pie is British too. The MK4 was an American car.

dad brought home a GT 40 MK II , Silver in color, BEAUTIFUL, and making WONDERFUL mechanical SOUNDS, he worked for FoMoCo in NYC public relations. WOW, just the SOUND and in our little suburban enclave in New City ,NY , what a BIG deal. It snowed that Friday night... When I looked out from the upstairs window and said," where did the car go!?..." I'd NEVER seen my father do a BOLT upright run! The snow had blown over the driveway. He was outside with a inverted broom looking for the car! Yes, right hand drive, so after pulling out his back trying to effectively pay the toll on the GW Bridge he had a neighbor commute with him to pass the coin! I have a picture of that silver MkII with wire wheel knock off rims, and would love to hear it at "full-chat" again.

I love this car! My favorite GT40. This chassis started as s/n 1047, but was switched with s/n 1031 (the other Mk IIb) after LeMans in 1967. The sister car (renumbered as 1047) won the 12 hours of Reims after LeMans in 1967 and is currently on display at the Revs Institute in Naples, FL.

Years ago I knew where there was a '66 Ford Galaxie convertible with a factory 427cid engine and a 4spd. It was that baby blue color with a white top. Had the 427 engine designation emblems on the fenders. Even as a young kid, I knew exactly what that car had under the hood. Crazy rare car.

Have been in love with these cars since they were new. You may notice the "lump" in the roof of the gold version. That's the Gurney Bump, where the engineers literally had to pound the roof up to allow Dan Gurney's helmet to fit in the car.

The Mk2-b has the dash and the plexiglass carb cover that went onto the Mkiv. You can see improvements on this car that ended up on the Mkiv. You should come to the Gt40 60 year reunion this year at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in July. It is going to be unbelievable. There will be at least 3 continuation mkiv's there. There also expecting 60-80 Gt40's to attend!!! Great channel and I always enjoyed watching you on motortrend tv!!

My dad had a '67 Fairlane 500 R code car with a 427 with I believe a Low riser engine...he sold it just before I turned 15 and would have been able to legally drive it...but I snuck out with it a couple times as a 14 year old...once with my buddies when we were camping out in the nearby woods. I snuck into the house at about 3 am and grabbed the keys and we pushed the car until we were probably more than a 1/4 mile away before we started it. I drove it all over our town...it was fast as hell.

Greetings from Colorado, boys! Hail fellows. Well met! What a story. I found you guys in late spring 2023 as I was preparing mentally and chasing the internet through the new Endurance season, what Le Mans' 100th might mean and how the gods were making crazy sounds around WHAT? FerRARI? Anyway. Le Mans, with the Klutt boys who were participating in a new-fangled, first ever soon-to-be-anniversary of beating the heck out of old LeMans cars was cool. But I thought you guys were just ....what...super rich collectors trying to be the Canadian Jay Leno's Garage? I profoundly apologize and offer large compliments for a coupla things. Like what a great family Peter and his two sons who're his business partners and help Peter prove the adage, "Find something to do for work that you absolutely love and you'll never work a day in your life." I could wax prolifically about how I 'get' all the cool things that make Legendary what it is today. But at age 69.5 and having watched Gary and Peter talking about their shared huge passion for cars while actually documenting the incredible FUN the have together today as well as just what Gary and Tom got up to in late/early '00 century area just playing with what the HECK they could do with by putting CARS on this INtranet machine. And talking about cars, building cars and racing cars...And then talking about cars some more-MILLER TIME! Thank you boys. From the bottom of my heart, I offer my profound wish for fair winds and following seas for your friends and families.

Nerd note, The inboard half-shaft joint is called a tri-pot not a cv joint which would be on the wheel end of the half shaft, the tri pot joint allows the shaft to move in and out as the suspension travels up and down,
