Info video I made on the new book and movie...everything you need to know for all those that were asking ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BA03j1-WFX0.html
Agreed. I didn't like that they added more than were necessary or even written Gale moments and really cut down the Finnick and Johanna moments with Katniss. Honestly they would have been way more interesting.
Knightwolf1994 she has extreme ptsd and has never been treated for it, she doesnt think straight always. and dont say “well katniss does too and she disagreed” bc everyone reacts to trauma differently
her district must have been laughing their head off watching her pretend to be terrified in her first hunger games knowing that she was actually really tough
in the first movie's original draft, they speeded up her win and i believe she ended up winning in less than a few days. she slaughtered most of them on the first day.
According to this video, that’s what half the capitol had in mind. Finnic was forced as Snow had Annie hostage, but prostituting victors was apparently common
@Thiago Mota it all started with Haymitch, Snow was using Haymitch as an example of what will happen if you refuse to do his bidding I think the same thing happened to Cashmere as well being forced into prostitution
"I'm getting totally screwed over here, the deal was if I win The Hunger Games, I got to live the rest of my life in peace. But now you wanna kill me again!" - Johanna Mason Catching Fire.
I haven't read the books, but yeah, quite disappointing Johanna didn't have enough screen time as she deserved. Even with little appearances in Catching Fire, everytime she appears, she owns the scene.
Yes!! I was so happy to see her in the first movie, and expected so much more in the second. There was like literally one scene with her lol. She was like Katniss's biggest support system.
Johanna would not have felt that Katniss betrayed her because Katniss told Johanna who really killed Prim. Katniss told Johanna that Coin killed Prim. So Johanna would have been proud of Katniss for shooting Coin with the arrow.
@Praveena Uppala In the book it is indicated that Coin might be intentionally sent Prim to the field and be killed. Prim was 13 when she died, and only 14 years old are enlisted as soldiers. Not to mention how unlikely they send a new trained soldier to the front line. Thus, someone really high up must have ordered or approved this move.
@@floralee1645 Yeah I recently reread that part - and it broke my heart when Katniss came to that realisation. Prim shouldn't have been anywhere near the battlefield, and only the President could have approved her to go to the front lines - and when you think about the fact that Coin knew that group of District 13 medics would be killed in her orchestrated bombing, it makes it obvious that she was trying to get Prim killed, probably to get revenge on Katniss
Kaleb Deshotel haymitch was just as fucked as the rest of them. His family was killed. For finnick they reaped Annie so he would comply. Most of them were sold into prostitution and all of them were forced to watch and help as new kids every year died for entertainment. None of them recovered.
It was kinda dumb how they didnt considering how close they got in mockingjay. It seems like the writer completely forgot about her after the war cause I don't remember finding out what happens with her after Coin's assassination
@@lowkeynopressure6739 katniss kept in touch with annie apparently after the war as she recieved a photograph of her son, its quite possible her and johanna kept in contact too and it wasn't mentioned
I haven't read the ending of the final book for a while, but I don't recall it saying what happened with Johanna after the deaths of Coin and Snow. I don't even recall it saying that Johanna held it against Katniss for killing Coin, since Snow died moments later anyway. I wonder whether this video is making suppositions about the rest of Johanna's life? (Also, Johanna was no longer addicted to morphling by the time the book ended.) It was evident that Annie didn't stay in touch with Johanna since she didn't mention her in her letters, but that doesn't mean Johanna was all alone and miserable.
@@rowanaforrest9792 It doesn't say what happened with Johanna and he was definitely making suppositions about the rest of her life. My guess is that Katniss thought Johanna would hold it against her so she never reached out to her. It does fit her character to do that, she hates awkwardness. I just find it weird that Johanna was a pretty big part of the story for Katniss and in the end she just disappears, like neither reach out to each other and apparently neither do the other victors
It genuinely upsets me that Johanna just went back to District 7 alone and upset, feeling betrayed by Katniss but never able to discuss it with her. I hate to see their growth and friendship basically cast aside and dismissed in such a way. I don't know.. They just all deserved better, and Johanna definitely doesn't deserve a second life of self-isolation.
This upset me as well I rewatched all the movies trying understand what happened to her just to find out her and katniss never make up or continue their friendship. It honestly broke me. like I imagine katniss doing all this to save her sister just to watch her sister die. Going back home with haymitch wondering what it would be like if peeta never came back and prims cat passed away. Just for Johannas life to be so much worse and lonelier
It’s the reality of what really happens. Not everybody gets a happy ending and Katniss may have bonded with her in district 13 and I loved their friendship, but Katniss went on with her own life as did Johanna. I respect Johanna so much because despite how much she lost she didn’t even turn to drugs until after she was tortured
@@mayrav.4256 Katniss made a vow to Johanna that she would kill Snow, for everything he did to her and Katniss and everyone else he hurt. Katniss went back on this deal when she decided to take out Coin, but it’s very likely she knew Snow would he killed either way, but it’s the fact she didn’t stick to what she told Johanna which may have caused Johanna to feel angry with Katniss for going back on her word.
I also don't understand it. No one kept her from going to District 12 to see Katniss, or Katniss from going to District 7. That kinda doesn't sit right with me, it makes no sense. Why build a friendship between the two, when you're going to toss it away like it was nothing important? If I were Johanna, I would have confronted Katniss about her decision. I understand that Johanna was pissed off, but so much that she didn't want to talk to Katniss for the rest of her life? Makes no sense.
yeah. then they become mentors for the new tributes which is almost just as bad as the arena, as they see their tributes die/go through excruciating pain. they can't escape it once their name is called out in the reaping :(
????????? I see it more as her looking out for Annie and making sure she’s okay, thus making the child okay. Johanna seems to respect, maybe even care for Annie, obviously not how Finnick did but you never hear Johanna put Annie down despite Annie technically being “weak” compared to other victors.
JulieNicole24 true, also the fact that Johanna and finnick were very close friends, and she might’ve felt like helping Annie out would be the least she could do
She didn't watch the 72-74th Games from her own home. As the sole surviving female D7 winner, she was automatically the mentor for the female D7 tributes in those years
Alex Henderson ill prob get killed as the first 10😅. I’M an not very handy girl with weapons or whatsoever got no survival skills, can’t run fast and isn’t all that strong. Yes, I’m smart but not smart enough and i’m not sneaky. So i basicly got no qualities to survive the hunger games😂
Imagine Johanna as a girl who graduated High school "Yes I am angry. You know, I am getting totally screwed over here. The deal is when I finish high school, I get to live the rest of my life in peace. But now, you want to send me to college. You know what, *F*CK THIS! ** ANYBODY WHO HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT!"
Johanna is like my favourite female character and maybe even overall. She is a badass Victor. I'm surprised she didn't go into insanity after snow killed her family. That just shows how strong she is Thanks for all the likes all I did was express how I felt about her. Thanks
I imagine Johanna spent a few years hiding away and taking morphling, but then feeling a sudden inspiration to go see Annie. I can see Johanna finding a small modicum of peace in protecting Annie and Finick's baby from whatever harm Johanna might imagine, and spending her days that way.
@@ziaalejandre3722 she had such a confident and distinct personality and just to know shes the one who probably suffered the most trauma kinda breaks my heart because I loved the power her character had
@@grilsonderdebrug2393ha! We eventually will be there. How nice is it to be so naive that you think your government would never. This movie unfortunately is called predictive programming meaning they put the truth in movies.
6:00 fun fact, when she exited the elevator they were actually on the wrong floor. She had gotten off on a floor where actual people who were staying at that motel were at instead of getting off on the floor they had closed off for this scene.
gianna gorres it’s call ‘the Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes” pretty damn cool. Comes out in May 2020. Not sure when the movie comes out but I hear lions gate is already getting ready to make a movie about it. Can’t wait!
Johanna’s story is the saddest of all because instead of dying like most tributes though dying was a sad fate living without friends or family with a horrible controlling phobia of water and a traumatic past. She was stripped of everything that made her memorable until she was just a girl with an addiction to morphine. She felt betrayed by Katniss and lost Finnick. She stayed strong right until the capital broke her never exposing the rebel plans etc. She lived and died but she lived long enough to lose everything she loved until she lost herself and finally died. RIP her she was my favorite character
Johanna surprisingly stayed human despite the torture, loneliness and hatred she got..... I don't know how she could bear it but she was one wonderful character🖤
Did snow ever just think “ya know maybe killing all these peoples families is gonna come back to bite me” he created so many enemies and wonders why the rebellion gained so much momentum
Actually. She knew this whole time that Katniss was not with child. It would have been nice to see her and Katniss actually become close best girlfriends.
I watched the 2nd Hunger Games movie and the next day was talking to my coworker about it as she loved the movies too. About an hour later none other than Jena Malone herself walked into our coffee shop. I didn't recognize her at first but my coworker did immediately. We made her lunch and afterwards asked her if we was who we thought she was. She is stunning in person and very nice!
I was so sad to read about Johanna in the books. She was one of my favorite characters. Even if it's open ended on whether Katniss and Peeta lived happily aftet the series, I still wished that for Johanna as well. :'(
@@gremlyn1658 They had the support of each other (and Haymitch) to fall back on - Johanna didn't, and after everything she's been through, it's no wonder that she couldn't connect to anyone. It's horribly sad, but unfortunately, that's how life goes sometimes...
@@NoobsailerRBH Joanna has a tough exterior, but she knows when she needs help or just a friend, like when grabbing Katniss' painkiller supply. Like a cat, who pretends she doesn't care. Hope she finds a new life with loved ones, or other victors in their districts.
This is hands down one of the most depressing stories ive ever heard.. poor Johanna, poor Peeta, poor Finnick, these poor people. I know its all fake but my heart really does hurt for them
Every character in the movie was perfect. Johanna's character was to be loathed yet loved, Jena Malone's portrayal gave all the justice to the character.
I know she isn't that big of a character, but you should do Enobaria, she had a bigger role in th books, and it's interesting that Collins kept her alive through the whole series.
I never thought a fictional ball if pine needles could bring tears to my eyes. But here I am. You know a character is well written when a tiny thing like that can convey so much of their emotions, their pain, and their longing to be at peace.
Johanna is probably my favorite character. I feel her pain of being reaped and then winning but then her fury at being reaped again. And hers is my favorite hunger games
I'm deeply sad about how Johanna never got her happy ending, and couldn't even make things right with Katniss. It's just show how... realistic this books are, how harsh and brutal they are.
"johanna lived the rest of her life as a scarred broken woman unable to form new relationships" what?!?!?! no what have you done!!!! you can't do that, johanna deserves a happier ending! i think johanna would understand why katniss killed coin and forgive her, especially since snow was killed by the crowd anyway (maybe johanna was the person who started the rush?)
When i saw Jena in Hunger Games I was amazed how well she portrayed Johanna because the last I saw her before was in Pride and Prejudice movie as Lydia Bennett. Totally different characters and she played both so well!
I'm.. I'm speechless.. I never knew these specific details or how her life ended... I don't know how to explain what I am feeling.. There was nothing I could do to change it and it never actually happened... Yet.. I almost blame myself.. It feela like this was a story writen by me.. I feel like it should have ended different for her.. But there's nothing I could have ever done to change any of it.
She was such a complex character. On one hand you hate her for reacting so violently and on the other hand you can understand her struggle because she had gone through so much. That’s why I love the hunger games because the characters were always so multi-dimensional. These books allowed me to break away from that black-and-white thinking I had as a teen.
Out of everyone Joanna was the one person my heart ached the most for. I wish she had moved to district 12 at the end to live along side of Peta, Katniss, their kids, and Haymitch. She totally deserved better.
She’s one of the many underrated and misunderstood characters, I’m really happy he made this video because now people understand Johanna even more. The films didn’t show nor explain much of Johanna and that’s why most people just hated her and her actions but this video definitely cleared up some misjudgment.
I was almost onto something. Gimmick is from 4. Johanna is from 7. Katniss and Peeta are from 12. 7+4=11. Damn it. Edit: yes, my phone autocorrected Finnick to Gimmick. That’s who Gimmick is.
What I love so much about these books/movies is that you can pick any character and see how painful their backstory is and know that they're not going to live happily ever after. It's so realistic that it hurts my heart lol.
@@scarzify206 I forgot to include that he probably will do the careers, but I do agree that Peeta's backstory wasn't covered that much which is why I said he mostly will do Peeta's story
