The Life of Sybill Trelawney: Entire Timeline Explained (Harry Potter) 

She didn’t receive much love in the series and films, but I love how Professor McGonagall had her back and stood up to Umbridge towards the end of the book/film.

When I read the Half Blood Prince book. The part where Trelawney predicts the death of dumbledore was bone chilling. Really wish that part was added in the movie. Would have changed the whole atmosphere in an instant.

9:31 the fact that McGonagall had this kind of impression of Trelawney from the very start (which never really changed ever), but yet stood up for Trelawney when Umbridge threatened to have her fired, shows how much everyone really hated Umbridge. *EDIT* : oh he covered this later in the video. :D

It's funny how much an fortune telling, enlarged mosquito can change the plot of a series so much.

She made more correct predictions than many assume. 1) Hermione did leave the class around Easter. 2) Harry did meet a giant black dog, only it wasn’t a grim, she just misinterpreted the sign. 3) umbridge was indeed in grave danger, meeting centaurs later that year. 4) that prediction when she described Harry’s fate and assumed he was born in winter. Don’t forget harry had a piece of Voldy’s soul inside him. And Voldy was indeed born 31st December. She actually looked into that other soul and made her prediction about Voldemort. Who knows, maybe it’s not the only time she mixed 2 souls. And that’s why she found Harry to be an interesting object. 5) in HBP Trelawney saw many signs. I don’t remember the exact cards, but definitely she predicted Malfoy’s role, Dumblodore’s death. To conclude, I believe that all her true predictions were involuntary and she never realized they came true. And most of time it was wondering in the dark. But she has some gift and is not completely a fraud

She is quite an underrated character, it’s like Ron being in the shadow of his brothers. She was in the shadow of her great-grandmother but she may be under the pressure of her heritage.

Trelawney, to me, is what most people would call a "sleeper". Though overlooked, brings more to the table. She made very crucial prophecies, even though she couldn't remember them.

Was Trelawny right when she said that Umbridge was in grave danger. Because later in the film the centaurs almost killed her...

The first to die prediction actually was ironically right, yes there were the twelve sitting but unknown to them all there were actually 13, the thirteenth you ask? Peter Pettigrew. And who stood up first? Dumbledore. Also the Harry was born in mid winter one is also right, she saw the TROUBLED SOUL WITHIN, Harry was a horcrux at this time, and when was Voldemort born? Mid-Winter aka December.

In Greek mythology, Cassandra was given the gift of foresight. Cassandra was cursed with no one believing her predictions because she refused to sleep with the person who gave her the power. Maybe that’s why their powers slowly weened down.

Honestly one of my favourite characters. I lover how she was comedic but if you paid attention, almost all her predictions were correct.

The "when 13 dine together the first to rise will be the first to die" statement was true. Though in an unexpected way. Without trelawney, there were already 13 people there (counting Pettigrewas scabbard.) Dumbledore stood up first to greet trelawney and he was the first to put of the others

Am I the only ne who noticed this: In the divination exam, Harry told that he saw a hippogriff flying away with a man, which disappointed sybill as she had expected him to see a beheaded hippogriff with Hagrid crying. But what Harry said came true: Buckbeak flew away with Sirius!

Fun Fact: Actually, If y'all pay attention to Trelawney's predictions, you would notice/understand that some of them came true.

I loved the art you used for the ancestor, using art from an actual ancient fortuneteller is great.

It is interesting how Neville and Harry's lives were still so paralleled. They both lost their parents because of that prophecy neither growing up with a healthy parental figure and their first real place of acceptance came from Hogwarts.

I loved Sybil's character and her gift as a seer and wish she would have gotten the justice she surely deserves ❤❤. I absolutely loved how Emma Thompson portayed her in the films ❤❤

You know I always felt Trelawny did not get the respect she deserves, I mean she did predict important events 1) Harrys birth and having the power to destroy Voldemort, 2) Pettigrew being freed from his rat forum and returning to Voldemort. 3) The Battle of the Astronomy Tower. Plus I hate it away Hermione treated her because she can be narrow-minded sometimes. Bottom line Trelawny is proof that divination isn't rubbish. Plus I love the design of her wand and most importantly she is portrayed by Emma Thompson it doesn't get any better than that

Sybil Trewlany is one of my favourite characters. You might think that it is weird. But no, I even cried when The Pink Human Toad tried to fire her.

That bit about Rowlings own marriage is actually really cool and i never knew that before

I loved her character despite how odd she could be at times.

Trelawny was also sort of right when she talked about Harry being born in midwinter. Voldemort was born then and she was "seeing" the part of his soul in Harry.

Professor Trelawney is "unusually" important in the HP series. Let's face it! She is much more than that messy-hair lady who yells "open your eyes, see the future" in Divination classes. Kind of amazed that she nearly has no teaching talents, and cannot hear her REAL prediction! I wonder if anyone tells her that she predicted the fate of Harry and Voldemort after the battle of Hogwarts, when “all is well”.

Sometimes people who reach for something so desperately deserve to feel it on their fingertips.

Without her divination, Voldemort would have never tried to kill Harry and inadvertently seal his fate. She is, without a doubt, the spark that saved the HP universe.

I didn't like how Hermione acted so snooty during Divination classes. She can really be insensitive to other's feelings, especially that one time when Lavender's rabbit died.

Hogwarts may have been her home but McGonagal really stepped up to make her feel loved. Tralawneys' story is such a heartbreaking one and she really did need to be told that just as a person without the innereye was enough.

13:04 actually became true. There where already 13 people sitting there. Peter Pettigrew was basically sitting there as well so the first one to rise was Dumbledore and he later was also the first one to die. Also 16:25 when Trelawney says that Harry was born in mid-winter.. maybe she was unknowingly referring to the part of Voldemort's soul that lived in Harry as Voldemort was in fact born at the end of December.

One of the true HP plotholes for me: if Sibyl was in such peril outside the school, why wasn't she taken out of the school and put in to hiding by the Order, when it fell under Voldmort's control? It would have been nice to know if Voldmort discovered or was led to belive that there was no point in trying to search for the contents of the profecy in her memories. Or, in alternative, early in Hallows we are told that she has disaperd, making us think that Voldemort got her, only to discover later in the story that Dumbledore had a plan to put her to safety and that she was alive and well.

Well, first of all, Sybill was named after the Sybilline books of ancient Rome, where had all prophecies in them. She may be based off Delphi, the spirit whom has the gift of foresight and prophecies. (Gifted by the God Apollo of prophecies) it is very interesting how many ties the Wizarding world has with ancient Greece and Rome, I encourage you to look into it more.

I’ve always thought it’s very odd that so many witches and wizards don’t believe in divination. It’s a magical ability just like so many others like legilimancy, the ability to read other people’s mind. It’s not a spell or potion but a gift. It’s especially curious that Hermione doesn’t believe in it…she is the one that knows about time traveling and uses a time turner…afterall what is a prediction of the future but time traveling in a sense but with the mind. I believe that this had to be that way for the sake of the story to continue in the books and movies Bc otherwise they could just use divination and such to find out more about the future ect and where is the excitement and action with that lol

Trelawney was right about the first to stand up thing. Sirius Black was the first to rise from the table and he died. Dumbledore was the first to rise from the table and he died. I counted the total number of people in both tables and both had 13 people sitting down at the table

She was the one who basically started the whole Harry potter story from the start, Without her, The Potters prob wouldn't died, Voldemort took over and done

Trelawney and Luna are important characters- they show that intelligence comes in many forms and that it often is useless without creativity and thinking outside the norms. I also love, despite McGonagalls lack of respect towards Divination, she still respects and cares for Trelawney

Wasn't Lavender's death only movie canon? As I remembered it in the book, she fell off somewhere and landed on the ground, Greyback then came racing to bite her which led to Hermione blasting him and Trelawney smashing a crystal ball on his head. Afterwards, Lavender was said to be feebly stirring and nothing indicates that she died. Especially since it reads like Greyback didn't even have the chance to attack her.

Also, Mcgonagall might have not been great friends in the past but when she needed it Minerva had Sybills back and comforted her when Umbridge dimissed her. I cant help feel sad when sybill crys or frowns,also Her eyes are very pretty though she kinds looks like a bug,and in my opinion if I had her as a teacher I would be so happy cause she’s nice of coorse shes made mistakes but who hasn’t!
