Minecraft 1.21 brought several new features, including the Mace: a powerful and formidable weapon. In this video, I explain why the Mace is overpowered and how it will ruin pvp. #minecraft #minecraftpvp #trickytrials
nah bro does not understand. k-dude LOVES the mace and abused the crap out of it on this one server he used to play on. he just made this video to show how good it is
Mace is polarizing. You either get a lot of value with it or get countered or miss and get none. Calling it overpowered would imply to me there aren’t multiple counters to it though. There’s more counters to the mace than I can think of off the top of my head. But just one example, when people were in water they could’ve spam down to avoid you. Your hitbox becomes a lot shorter while swimming. Cant crit while you’re in the water yourself either so the mace wouldn’t be any use
having a mace also buffs a sword though since you can sword swap using a mace with breaching to get the attack speed and damage of a sword with the armor ignoring properties of a breaching mace
I think i'm okay with there being something overpowered like this, i'm so sick of pvp just being two people with swords hitting each other for 20 minutes until someones armor breaks
@@The_K-Dude It's not a bug (I always mess around enchantments so I do have an Idea why, especially recently when they just remade the enchantment's programming) but a feature specific for creative mode, either way; it's probably because your smp is modified in this regard.
In order for the mace to be effective you must hit the enemy from a certain height, so by the time you are in the air your opponent can dodge you and escape the hit, while you will get the fall damage
Fall damage nullification and the lack of a damage cap are specifically 2 of the founding design principles Mojang put in place to make the mace unique as no other weapon functions that way. Why would one continue to use it if they die by using it through its intened purpose? Not to mention th fact that you never once mentioned how rare it is to obtain in survival, especially Windburst which in my and the opinion of many, justifies how overpowered it is.
It's become very clear just how utterly clueless the average person is about game balance since the mace was added. Unique =/= balanced. Rare =/= balanced. In fact, the rarity only makes it *even more unbalanced...* No one should have to explain something so obvious. You'd have a point if it was as common as dirt, bit even then it still doesn't fit in power-wise with the rest of the weapons in the game. (and as such is still unbalanced)
counters: shield (but you have to be aware which direction) slow falling elytra (if you fly into the air they cant attack you midair) end crystals (if you place two end crystals and stand in between they will only be able to hit the crystals and not you (and probably will pop themselves)
@@WryLentoBean yeah, have they taken into account the fact that due to the drastic increase in damage the shield will break after a maximum of four hits? you should use this arguement against them
If the mace had a damage cap, it would be very interesting since, for example, you could surprise a player with a very powerful hit, but with all enchants it should be slightly less than their max health if they're wearing full enchanted netherite armor. That way, it still serves an epic intro to a fight and still very effective since it gets the other player to a very low health, but doesn't eliminate the entire fight completely
Literally use Crystal PvP. Then when try to get height with a wind charge you can Crystal them into oblivion. Or use slowfalling arrows/splash potions to make it so they can’t fall and do damage.
I feel like the mace is a non issue for pvp. Most SMP servers are already banning a lot of things. So yes, if you look at servers that are playing with specific rules … it doesn’t fit. But Mojang don’t have to take into account made up rules when balancing something and it would actually be terrible if they did so, because then everyone would have to cope with everyone else rules…
nah servers are already modding stuff, crystals hard to get unless you have farms (and they don't get raided on servers) but Macepvp is so fun, Minecraft sword is just too technical and sweaty for some ppl like me, macepvp for a change is great
i think that other servers and Minecraft in general should do what the new Lifesteal season is doing and have only one mace per world cuz a mace is easy to farm
yeah, now imagine you spend countless hours getting the rarest weapon in the game just to miss your click and take all the fall damage and die with it. Very op
I think the mace is fine in a 1player world but i think its can be a good idea to nerf it at least for players Like it can't one shot the player smth like that
I think its actually great seeing Minecraft evolve to new heights in animations, music, mobs, weapons, etc. Having an overpowered or god-like item every once in a while is fine, as long as it's hard to obtain, and isn't abused. It being rarer is still a point that stands, no matter the combos available, as to get them you'll need to explore multiple trial chambers in ominous, and wrestle with an enchanting table for hours! Not to mention, Riptide Tridents aren't easy to come by unless you have a drowned farm. If you work for something, you deserve to impress everyone with it, and that I believe is what the Mace is all about. People said the same crap about Elytras in 1.9, now they're widely accepted!
@@Collixar Not that specifically, although the cherry blossom petals are weirdly smooth. It's mostly the mob animations that have way too many movement points
the mace is way stronger then any other weapons but the time it needs to get it with the enchantments and other items gives the enemy enough time to use counter like slow falling webs shield or just waking out of range and let the attacker get the fall damage
Personally, the mace should still do more damage the higher up you go, but it should deal just a percentage of whatever you hit's health. So if you hit someone from 20 blocks, it deals half of their health, and it caps at 70%
@@wasordx3245 What if you're in a cobweb on a server that has no ender pearls, like Lifesteal? What if you don't even know someone is about to attack you until they drop down and one shot you? What if you got splashed with slowness and they hit you before your ender pearl lands? Having a weapon that can one shot players will always be too OP.
@@WryLentoBeanwell the first and third situation could be prevented by you and the second scenario is wayy to rare. There is a very low chance that a player is even near you to ambush in the first place
you know a weapon is bad when they have way to many counters, the mace it self has a lot of counters 1. the mace can be countered with just you pressing S or walking back 2. the mace can be countered using its own toy (a wind charge) 3. the mace is nothing when you block your head 4. the mace can easily countered using ender pearl 5. the mace can be countered by shotting your enemy with slow falling arrows.. and even if the mace can be one shot so same with end crystal and the mace force you to not fast hand couse you need to slowly fall yo your enemy even with no slow falling you are still slow to reach down, with end crystal they force you to practice fast hand, you can tell that end crystal are way more op than mace couse crystal pvp uses a ton of totem on their kit, and the mace kit is just normal pvp kit but with wind burst
3:18 saying mace is OP by showing things that can counter this weapon but also saying that players dont think about thise things in pvp i mean.. i dont get it? It is their fault. If you are in the forest and someone has a mace - go under the tree. If you know your enemy has this powerful weapon hell yeah you should change your tactics and be prepared. Or pvp battles are simply spaming left click to win? Nope
consedering how mad people got when 1.9 released yeah thats what people want this games pvp to be like just spam clicking left click until either person drops. no required thinking or anything
1:22 how does sharpness make sense with a mace? 4:09 it seems possible to counter. You just need a shield or some blocks. Once people know how to dodge and the mace becomes dangerous in high falls, it will calm a little. Wind charges are still powerful tho.
1:33 This is completely false. A single wind charge boost into a Density 5 smash attack crit is just enough to 1 shot through full Protection IV netherite armor, without even needing Strength 2. 1:07 Sharpness is not applicable to maces, your gameplay was you in creative mode. 2:11 Again, this is not necessary whatsoever and completely impractical, a single wind charge is more than enough. 3:01 A maxed mace that's optimal for PvP would not have Wind Burst 3. Wind Burst 3 is completely impractical, it's overkill and gives the opponent way more time to react/re-equip totem. Wind Burst 1 is the best to have for PvP. 3:19 Shield stunning lasts for 5 seconds, which is more than enough time to do wind charge+mace instant kill. Using a shield over a totem would be hilariously dumb in mace PvP. Also, no idea what you mean by "use Feather Falling" as a counter to the mace, that makes no sense.
So, K dude. After watching this for the 2nd time, I have decided that I may make a datapack/plugin that does the following: I would remove the ability to add enchantments that were not designed for the mace (excluding unbreaking and mending). I would nerf it by 3.75-4% (cause 3% was not enough, as shown in the video). I would add a damage cap of 45 health points. I would make a new item crafted by a breeze rod, netherite ingot, and smithing upgrade in a smithing table, and use that item instead of a breeze rod in the crafting. These are the changes I would make to balance the mace.
how I'd balance it: a helmet enchantment that adds a cap to mace damage, like Ⅰ making it deal max 6 hearts, Ⅱ making it deal max 5 hearts, Ⅲ making it deal max 4 hearts edit: Wind Burst should also destroy cobwebs
Imagine farming for 100 hours to get maxxed out gear then dying in one hit to someone with a single piece of pointed dripstone seriously what is it about Minecraft adding OP items even the diamond sword was OP in the battle mini game and that's when it only has 3 durability
pvp is not prioritized as much as survival and in survival it's SO much fun, if pvp servers have the same opinion they just won't make it accessible in pvp. I will say even considering this it is OP, but it does have decently high skill floor and a pretty decent skill ceiling for minecraft.
Mace is broken only if you know how to utilise it and your opponent isn't aware of the counter playing. In early stages of the release its obviously gonna be far superior, but once ppl get more comfortable with it and realise how easy it is to dodge it with pearls and instantly ruin the life of the mace player with slow falling arrows, its gonna be much less efficient than it is now. Riptide strategy is basically useless, since it gives such a big room for a counter, its literally impossible to pull off against an experienced player. Same goes with wind burst 2+, since 14+ blocks is a big space. You don't even understand how easy it is to snipe a predictable flying target, which movement is strongly focused on hitting you. Also crossbows penetrate shields, so you physically can't counter the slow falling, if the player so happens to utilise it You might say that wind burst 1 is a good alternative, since the room for counter is pretty small, but then we have pearls, which so happens to give you damage ticks ( which makes mace hits impossible, breaking the chain ) and allows you to move from a viable hitting range, breaking the chain even more Mace is a very overpowered weapon, but we had CPvP in the game for a decade atthis point and mace can't even reach half of it's potential, so i don't understand why ppl suddenly come to a realisation that OP stuff exists
Don't forget about the stair combo. Place a stair and jump off it to get enough height to trigger the wind burst enchantment if you time it right, allowing you to start a combo. Btw, wind burst 1 isn't necessarily worse than wind burst 3 because since you don't go as high your opponent has less time to react or dodge.
Exactly its just people coping. They don’t give any good points as to why the mace is op they just dunk on it because it’s new. It’s an end game item and is actually relatively hard to get.
Pearls: Crystals: Totems: Placing blocks above yourself: Just running away: Even in that one clip of that guy getting killed in the water. You could just go underneath the water... Also while we're on the topic of PVP breaking mechanics. Wheres a video about end crystals? Also also the mace doing fall damage regardless if you hit your target or not is a horrible change. It completely undermines the whole playstyle the mace is trying to push. Debate me on this. I think the mace is a balanced weapon that needs ABSOLUTELY no change.
the mace fixed pvp imo, netherite armor was far too strong for a netherite sword and i always wanted a stronger weapon. the mace fixes this problem in a fun and unique way. it's also pretty hard to land mace shots unless you're a skilled pvper against a less skilled one
You are forgetting one big thing here: Survival. Sure the mace is quite strong in pvp but in survival it really isn't. Most mobs are easy to kill and a sword can already make quick work of them so the Mace's one shotting ability doesn't make it op. I already find the mace annoying to use due to it's dependence on wind charges. Nerfing it into the ground seems like the wrong move in my opinion as it would make it completely useless in survival. My idea was to make it more like the trident in the sense that it's ability is still niche but it's base stats make the weapon viable without always having to use a smash attack. Here's my idea in more detail: Base stats: 6 DMG -> 11 DMG 0.6 Hits/s (same) -Density nerf -Breach nerf -Add sharpness to the pool of exclusive enchants. -Smash attack scales more with height, the first few blocks fallen don't add that much damage but the more you fall the better it gets (this will give you more time to react as the attacker will need to go up really high to do serious damage.) I think i might have exaggerated with the base damage increase but i want to make sure that it can one shot basic mobs with a crit. Also the netherite axe has a base samage of 10 while attacking faster so i think the mace with 11 is fine.
@@flighty319 Fair, but I've dropped some crazy cracked people in mace pvp. You can hit beneath or behind them if they're shielding, and if you're insane, throw a wind charge on top of the person you're trying to hit while falling on them so they cant hit you
The mace cannot get sharpness 5 / fire aspect 2 in survival. It seems Mojang allowed some enchantments that are usually a no in creative in 1.21. for example, you can make a piercing axe for SOME reason oh no they did half my health and then had wind burst!! what should I do? _pearls away_ again, the mace can be countered by RUNNING AWAY, because movement in air is just SLOWER than movement in water / on foot
It also requires skill, you can't just fall on someone and hit them, in most situations the opponent would be trying to avoid it or straight up counter the mace. Compared to CPvP, mace is much more limited in terms of viability. Also we shouldn't ignore the fact that CPvP can be used without much skill. It has a MUCH higher skill ceiling, but literally anyone can place an obsidian and explode the crystal, while keeping the extreme lethality of the weapon
@@pqdhiwyw you right when you say u need at least some aim for the mace, but regarding cpvp you have no clue, "just placing obsidian and crystals" is not crystalpvp
@@sculkblock1 I know exactly what CPvP is, hence why I brought the skill ceiling in it, but it's weird to ignore thay you can easily use crystals without much skill on a basic level, while keeping the fatal damage in tact. I mainly said it, cause mace and crystals are similar to each other. They can be a cheap OP tactics even at basic use, but to utilise them properly, you need to master them to a much greater extent
@@sculkblock1 cheap not in terms of survival availability and how easy it is to get, but more of the ratio of how easy it is to use compared to how lethal it is. Sword with Str 2 is also pretty deadly, but you need more skill and effort to get the same result the crystals and the mace can do in seconds
Bro there is this Thing called the s button When people know about the s button you cant hit poeple with it Also there are pearls so a 2 tap isnt gonna happen unless they are absolute morons
I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but as someone who mainly plays single-player (with occasional visits from friends on my realm), I think the mace is balanced. With the recent addition of the Warden, which requires a lot of damage to defeat, a new weapon was needed to counter it. Since the mace is a late-game item and relatively hard to obtain, I believe it's balanced for single-player. I understand that in PvP contexts, the mace might be overpowered. However, PvP players are a minority of the player base. The developers likely focus more on overall game progression rather than catering specifically to PvP. Server owners can always modify the game experience as they see fit, which I'm sure the developers take into account. If I ran a server with PvP or minigames, I would consider nerfing or removing the mace. But I don't think the developers should design the game solely around PvP gameplay.
@@The_K-Dude Yeah, what worse is that the community (probably those who don't even play PvP) is so adamant about not giving Maces a damage cap because "iT's a SaNdBoX gAmE", so that's probably the reason why they didn't give it a damage cap.
@@user-tzzglsstle585e38shield is easily countered by using crossbows, which can also be preloaded. Drinking milk mid air isn't an option as well, since you don't have enough time to do it in most cases and if you do, the person has more than enough time to escape the attack either way. Also milk would remove all other effects, including strength and speed, which can drastically nerf your other options in the fight, not even mentioning milk is unstackable, while slow falling arrows are, so in the game of nutrition, you are losing every fight
@@pqdhiwyw You mean game of attrition (in which doesn't even apply here because that word means gradually wearing out the other's strength through sustained attacks, different from simply being against the odds), also nobody's suggesting to drink milk mid air. If we are talking about the use of crossbows (which yeah, acts as a proper counter as it should); the player either loses out on ranged DPS or that player would have to use crossbows with bows in addition to every other weapon-- perfect for adding to the mental stack which can be taken advantage of (classic fighting game fundamentals), because simply carrying a crossbow puts you at a disadvantage against regular melee-- which is pretty present regardless if you use a Mace or not. Regardless; it may seem it everything *on paper* is against Maces in most scenarios but not everything will go in such a linear and predictable way, especially when you consider that the crossbow user has to have good aim in the first place to hit someone mid-air and the fact that Mace users would often have Wind Charge on the off-hand; perfect interruption for use against enemies that are shooting from the ground, added to the fact that Maces being able to 1 hit you regardless of armor is more than enough to make up for these potential counters.
@@user-tzzglsstle585e38 thanks for correcting, I often mistake words XD Crossbow by itself is a very weak weapon, I agree, but calling it a "disadvantage" is absurd. Not only does it mess with a shield, completely negating it in every situation, which allows you to apply any effect to the opponent, but you also tend to ignore how strong slow falling is. It completely removes the ability to crit, as well as makes all vertical movement sloppy, which allows the opponent to do combos much more freely Also I completely don't understand the "god aim" argument, I agree that you need at least basic aim to use it, but do I really have to point out how extremely predictable the wind charge trajectory is, considering your only goal in that state is to shorten the distance between you and the target and get mace hit. I never tested how piercing works against wind charges, so I can't say with confidence that they won't work, but I should mention that the opponent in the air would have a much harder time countering the arrow, considering the velocity transfers to the projectiles, making each shot harder to calculate. Also having wind charges in the offhand in the air would basically render you a corpse the second you meet a CPvP'er, since you are in the perfect position and very vulnerable I'm not trying to say the Mace isn't OP, it definitely is, but it could reach it's maxed potential only in good hands and even then there are always ways of countering it completely
