You know when you read a medicines leaflet and it says do not take with grapefruit juice? Wonder is that linked? The grapefruit burns the skin, as it’s applied topically? Not ingested? Intrigued, but too lazy (and high) to actually look it up 🤣 Edit: I’m 29, closer to 30 and experiencing the worst acne for the first time. Not even as a teen did I have so many and sore spots. Used to get the occasional mountain, but this? It’s the milkybars doing it. I’m addicted. I found a random face brand - maybe up adm coming? Anyways bar of soap for oily and blemish prone skin by Acnaut, by Biotrade, Biotrade. With lactic and salicylic acid. Cleared it a lot. I used a face mask last night and broke out again. Skin won’t take anything more than Snail Mucin by CosRX without a break out. My skin is highly reactive, so it’s rejecting anything it deems too rich 🥲😂

@@PucaFlea I’ve had anti-anxiety medications which said you couldn’t have grapefruit on the leaflet. IIRC when I looked it up, there was something about how the juice made the tablets less effective due to stopping them being absorbed

I also have had a bottle of Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser for many years now and use it occasionally if I have a pimple, but I don't like the menthol in it. You can get an allergic reaction to anything. It doesn't mean it's inherently bad. I've been using the Neutrogena wipes as a "first stage" cleanse and eye makeup removed for at least a decade now and have never had an issue with them. I follow it with micellar water, as that alone won't remove my mascara or eyeliner at all. I loathe washing my face at a sink, as no matter what I do, I get water down my arms and on the floor.

I'm sorry but I will never understand why people invest money in makeup wipes when they don't even do their job...... It's ecological & financial waste for absolutely no reason. Using a microfiber cloth with micellar water and then a cleanser would be absolutely perfect in your case! Please consider this, as the cloth would be much gentler on your face anyway (makeup wipes can be very exfoliating). Edit: Have to add another tip. To remove your eye makeup more easily, hold the cloth with micellar water over your eye area and let the product get into the makeup before you start removing it. It will make your life much easier, as it "breaks down" the makeup, otherwise it doesn't have enough time if you just start scrubbing from the get-go.

Given that the issue seems to be spread across different formulations of wipes, I wonder if the issue is the fabric of the wipes themselves. They may just be more abrasive than they seem the way rice flour or baking powder is. People can feel something as soft or smooth on their fingers but it can be abrasive to thin skin like around the eyes or mouth.

@eepinwillow
@eepinwillow Год назад
You might be on to something. I've noticed with a lot of wipe products, when you scrub too hard, the surface texture can change as the little fibers start to come up out of the weave. Like if I rub a baby wipe on my skin too much, even on tough areas like my arms, it'll get that dry, stretched, raw feeling. Might be that the fabric irritates or tears the skin and lets the (intended topical) ingredients into the wounds.

I would think it was common sense, especially from a holistic specialist, to not scrub around your eyes with an exfoliate her that has micro beads. Definitely an example of playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes. And after looking at the other people that had similar reactions, do we agree that they look like they used an extreme amount and probably scrubbed the daylights out of their skin? The one that had that reaction on her neck in particular. Why would you use a scrub on your neck? Is it not common knowledge that the eye area and the neck are more sensitive than the rest of our face and body? Until, I couldn't feel my face anymore, it looked like a sunburn and I got made fun of even more. It gives people a false sense of security. I dont think you can really sue the brand for it though. Especially if you are using a physical exfoliater on your eyes?!

I don't recall having an allergic reaction to their face wipes or products in particular, but my eyes are swollen more often than not so honestly who knows. BUT their face wipes always made my skin burn and more dry than other brands. I used to use their pink grapefruit body wash back before the issues of microbeads were talked about, and I did really like it as it was the only drugstore body wash that had salicylic acid in it at the time. I kind of wish they would bring it back but without the microbeads, it was so much cheaper than the acne body washes I use now

I've never had trouble with makeup wipes, even though I have pretty sensitive skin, and I think part of it was that I did NOT use them as directed. I'd always leave the wipe on my face like a sheet mask for 30s-1min before starting to wipe so that the cleanser in the wipe would have some time to break down my makeup before I started anything like rubbing. After the first few times I used a makeup wipe, I noticed that my skin would feel salty after, so I started to make sure I always rinsed off my face after cleansing before applying a moisturizer. This meant that not only was I avoiding irritation from rubbing the wipe into my skin, but I was also washing off the chemicals from the cleansing wipes.

It's nice to put a light into the sketchy company because I still see a lot of die hard fans of this company that need to get informed. A lot of unaware people advertise their products on social media and it's kind of unacceptable. Because I was one of the people that believed the hype, I used their rosewater witch hazel toner and I got a chemical reaction. I have used a witch hazel rosewater toner before with the same ingredients from an other brand and I didn't have that reaction. I geniuelly think that they STILL hide ingredients from their list like they did before. Because I used dupes for Mario Badescu and I didn't get any reaction. Versus the original toner from the brand that burned, irritated my pores and left me a scar on my forehead from just a week of use and a chemical like reaction that didn't make much sense. the same thing happened with me! i now know i have psoriasis but i never suffered from it until i tried the neutrogena grapefruit cleanser (not the scrub, just the clear gel cleanser). i hadn't used many of their products before but i never heard anything bad so i tried it. that next week was a living hell😅 i used it before i went to bed, no scrubbing with a cloth or anything, just lather and rinse and pat dry. next morning i woke up and was fine, used it again the same way that night and went to bed. next morning i was fine as well, but around noon i noticed my face was just very itchy and hot feeling and it felt like i'd gotten awful sunburn on my whole face despite not being outside much those previous days. by that night the drier parts of my face were cracking open and bleeding, and the parts that didnt crack almost looked like my face was sweating blood and yellowy fluid. i took benadryl and ibuprofen and kept a cool compress on my face thinking it'd pass but by the next day my whole face was shedding like a snake and the thinner parts of my skin were purple and red like i'd been badly bruised. the only thing i could stand to put on my face was vaseline, even rinsing my face with water felt like being set on fire. i ended up using lidocaine all over my face just to be able to rinse it with saline solution and clean all the blood off. (which is NOT an approved use of lidocaine so, do at your own risk?) over the next week my entire face turned silvery white and the flakes would peel off by themselves, but every time one would come off the bleeding would start again. i was about 18 when this happened and ive had psoriasis flares every few weeks ever since then. i had a similar experience with a sketchy mlm skincare product that was supposed to be like dead sea mud or whatever the hell. but NOTHING has ever injured my face as bad as neutrogena. what's the worst to me is that this isnt even a one off occurrence that can be blamed on my genetics! this happens to people who don't even have sensitive skin or genetic issues!

I had normally spotty skin as a teenager and I remember thinking "I'm gonna get my sh** together and buy some proper skincare". I bought the pink grape fruit line 😅 I got the scrub, face wash etc omg it broke me out SO BAD, my Mum took me to the doctor and she said it was likely the fragrance in the product. I never touched that stuff again!

That’s crazzzzzy because 2017 I had a super bad reaction to some of these wipes (super sensitive skin turned into psoriasis. I was in theater and we were running 8 shows in two weeks, and I had such a bad reaction but never knew it was that. I always thought it was my makeup. The only other time I had a reaction like that was in college after shows, too. Huh.

i do remember that those wipes made my eyes burn like hell when i was younger. it was the grapefruit ones. i went back to using them after getting low on money and refusing to buy off brand bc that would prolly make it all worse, and i actually rlly like the hydro boost ones, i use them when i don’t wanna cleanse and i just want a quick face refresher

Their deep clean cleanser literally burned my face. I didn’t think anything of it until my face progressively appeared red. My husband also said the same thing without me mentioning how I felt. Once he mentioned it , I was like ok me too! Then we figured it was the cleanser. It was the only thing we used that was new in our skincare routine. Since we stopped cleansing with it, we haven’t had any reaction or redness/ burning sensations since.

I have always found makeup wipes to be very drying and at times, irritating. I’m currently using the Neutrogena Hydro Boost soothing milk cleanser. It’s gentle and hydrating. I never use those facial scrubs because I have such dry , sensitive skin. Thanks for sharing this!!❤

I had a burn reaction to the grapefruit cleanser last April. I bought the travel size version of it. For a month my skin was Soo dry and peeling constantly. 😢

Those wipes hurrrrrrrt 😭😭 I just thought I couldn’t use make up wipes. I do have extremely sensitive skin though and I’m used to weird allergic reactions so I’m quick to disuse a product so thankfully it’s never gotten that bad.

I do not keep up with makeup/skincare news. I got the grapefruit cleanser as I didn't have access to my usual facial cleanser for a while. I used to Hydro Boost line a while back so I trusted Neutrogena to have a decent product. I had such a terrible reaction to the grapefruit face wash and I just wrote it off as "I guess I might be allergic to grapefruit or something".

oh my gosh.. i had that scrub in my bathroom for years when i was a teen and only ended up rarely using it on my arms in the shower because my face hated it so much!! and even then i remember getting rid of it pretty quickly

I remember using the blue packaging makeup wipes in 2014 for the first time- i could tell from the first swipe it would not work for me. The burning it caused was awful T T had red splotches the next day i had to cover up for a performance and i havent used any type of makeup wipe since. That being said, my skin is SENSITIVE. I cannot use so many different skincare items and i normally end up using straight serums instead of creams most of the time. I just bought the cosrx cream though and im excited to try 🥰
