Their 1980 Tour Over Europe was a low-key affair to regain their stage confidence and
"cut the waffle" of previous lengthy marathon jams. The rejuvenated Zeppelin was ready to go back to the States through the "1980s Part One Tour". Past September 25th they couldn't continue as they were. RIP John Henry Bonham (1948-1980), rock and roll's greatest drummer.

It's going to take me weeks to shake the depression setting in now this Zep series has finished. It was so deep and detailed. The 80's live Zep footage is so rare. In the end Bonzo couldn't see himself as the all time greatest rock drummer. Only 32 when he passed. Incredibly sad.

Make no qualms about it, this series is an extremely rare look into the band...the times we "old farts" lived through...fuck, sorry as I'm in shock as to what one young man can achieve when one gets off there ass and uses the brain god gave them to give all of us LZ crazies what we've yearned for. Don't let anyone get fooled, this is documentary filmmaking at it's finest. Not the same old " One can find anything on RU-vid " crap pieces we all look for. Jose, wherever the hell you're at..i salute you! I imagine hundreds of millions more would as well if you were paid handsomely for the endless hours of footage you some how got you're hands on to make this series. God, i still have chills after watching that episode! I used to brag and say i have a PHD in rock music...no way! This is you're thesis, you're post graduate work. And they're many layers to an onion, after viewing this like i said, it should be a film. I've watched so many water downed pieces of the band's i love, and this work just makes it look like child's play. Plus the fact that it's all backed up by an accomplished musician...it brings everything full circle. I know, I've been playing since i was 16 and am now 60. Sorry so long winded....episode 5 moved me yet again! I'm going through all the episodes again. Cheers mate...keep doing you, what you do...and we musical nuts will be better for it. Fuck, and you're only 35! More power to ya. ❤🎶🎶🎤🎸👍🏼👍🏼😁

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories already am subscribed Jose! One of the great loses of my youth was my late mother not allowing me to see Zeppelin in 1977. That would have been in Seattle Washington....i live still to this day 200 miles East of Seattle. A couple members of my family attended, as did two of my then buddies. They said it was an out of body experience for about 2 hours of the show. Supposedly Pagey was lining up his empty Heineken dark beer bottles on top of a couple of his Plexi's along with a bottle of Jack Daniel's. They said he became sloppy to the point of unlistenable the final 1 and 1/2 hours ending their marathon set. I've seen footage and listened closely. People are idiots! He did sound not as fresh as the start....but who the fuck cares really. I mean,to me it would be a privilege just to stand in the same building. Critics for the most part are born with there testicles on top of their needle dicks...lol. Get rest and please keep us posted. Have you even tried to get some of you're work looked at by any rock music documentary filmmaker's? For that effort....seems unfair as I've already said that fortune hasn't landed in your lap! John Henry Bonham must have suffered some deep depression. Forty shots of Vodka did not cure that depression. So sad to lose such a powerful and talented drummer as he. When I listen to 'Presence,' I listen to John Bonham's drumming first and foremost. Even after years it never fails to knock my head up, down and sideways. No one, especially Phil Collins, could ever match what John Bonham did on that record.
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories
@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Год назад
Collins knew this, Genesis was just selling more records maybe haha. I am a Genesis fan too so i am just kidding. On a serious note, i have been sober for 6 years so Bonham's last days really hit me hard, wish i could go back in time and talk to him somehow. Behind alcoholism lies a quest for love and facing so many fears, ideas. I know drinking was not a disease back then but so many lives and families could have had a better life if it was. Bonzo was a like a child, a big heart and impulse. Peter Grant said he regretted not helping him more, but could he when he had his own drug problems. I see Led Zeppelin's last days like any great empire destined to fall because of the inner mishandlings that eventually make humans what we are, vulnerable and in many cases, tragic. Presence is probably Bonham's best drumming work, progressive swing groove insane. I didn't say this on the documentary but John's passing saved Jimmy's life, gave Plant a solo career and left JPJ a musical orphan. God Bless Him. He will never be forgotten. So profound to me, hearing that Bonzo felt that other drummers (of the day?) were better than him. Or did he mean, the rest of Led Zeppelin was better than him? … Either way, he was and he remains the most absolutely perfect percussionist for the most important rock band of all time. I remain in awe… he produced more emotion, drive and feel behind a kit, less than half the size of most drummers from the 80s and on. Listen to the nuance in his every stroke. Never overstated. Never irrelevant. Always on point and completely relevant to the piece. He isn’t the Only excellent rock drummer but he is very likely The MOST Excellent rock drummer.

I wasn’t yet “a thing” in 1980 (that’d happen two years later….) but was blessed to be born to parents with exceptional music taste (loved led zep but also loved soul, blues, bluegrass, ….nearly everything but were definitely hardcore when it came to Led Zeppelin!!) and can only imagine how horrific 1980 had to have been (musically speaking). The only comparison I can make would be the tremendous loss of Bowie, Prince, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, Leon Russell, Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire, and of course the “E” and “L” of ELP/Emerson Lake & Palmer. It’s just staggering. Though the majority were far older than Bonzo, Lennon, and Bon Scott, it was an insanely rough year. Also, thank you for these docs- they’re so well made and thorough! If you’re up for doing any others on Bowie (or many, many others… I’m a bit of a music nerd) I’d be happy to help! I’m an American in England with plenty of time on my hands!

I was always interested in In Through The Out Door more for the tragedy aspect of it. As soon as I heard it I realized that Page was down and out for the most part. He'd pushed himself so hard there's no way he could have continued at his previous level. The human body and mind can only take so much and he had pushed himself to the absolute limit. And then Bonham died. So this album to me signifies tragedy. Keep in mind I'm not talking about the music or the playing of any of the members because it was still top-notch with no complaints. This video, Episode 7, filled in a lot of blanks for me. Well done.

Page was hands down the biggest mess in that band, he was addicted to heroin, he was sweaty and pastey white , he barely survived the 77 tour and was still a mess in 1980. Imagine going on tour in the 80s when the cocaine era really kicked into high gear when you were already on heroin and drinking as well. The coke in the 80s was much more potent and plentiful than in the 70s. There’s no way Page would have made it. Just look at him at Live Aid, he was a sweaty drooling mess.

What a time capsule of that period/era !! I remember it just the same way it was put together. It was nice, the inclusion of the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Gold Team, too. THAT. WAS. HUGE. in the US at that time. My friend's older brother & his friends all had LED ZEP tickets for The Spectrum in Philly on that tour- never happened. And to this day ? In Through the Out Door has a special place in my heart; it was the only ZEP album I owned while they were still around- I was 11 upon it's release, so.... And the water color inner sleeve was a trip- it was b&w until you applied water via a brush over certain areas. I remember the ashtray was gold, along with the peanuts on the bar.... And thru this doc I noticed something about Robert Plant- his air of peaceful, hippy-trippy was now gone. At times, he's acting pissy & almost like he regrets having to even be on stage somewhat. Least, that's my take away from some of his comments on stage- kinda standoff-ish.... Brilliant job with this production, mate. That you took the time & care about the subject matter clearly shows !! Thank you very much! i appreciate your kind words, they make this whole process worth. It was an emotional roller coaster ride for me i can tell you, going over the footage, editing, losing my mind but below it all, my love for the band intact, 1980 was a chapter that made me sad, reflect, and question myself. The world we live in hasn't really changed, but music remains the same, and that is the power of art, to brings us close together. I am grateful to know that you did not see blind adulation, that is a quite the compliment as it is the exact thing i wanted to avoid, even as a huge ZeppHead i like Discussion and looking into everything, nothing is off the table and everything can be analyzed. Behind our famous heroes there are people, humans, family men, sons and dreamers. This documentary surpassed my wildest expectations as to the reaction is has received and i will definitely work on future episodes. 👏👏👏Bravo Jose!👏👏Bravo! This series will become part of my “therapeutic viewing”, something I will watch many times… to calm and restore my spirit. I was conceived some time around mid-late July, 1980… when Led Zeppelin still existed. Sadly, by the time I was born in April 1981, Bonham had passed, and Led Zeppelin disbanded. When I was 15 my best friend Jack happened to play guitar and was hardcore into Zeppelin… we got high and listened to his CDs (he even had the crop circle box set) The universe smiled on us and 1998 we got tickets to see Page and Plant on that last tour in our hometown, Portland Oregon. In the 20 plus years since that show my appreciation for how lucky I was has increased many times. I know I will never see anything as good, and it’s ok. I got to see and hear Jimmy Page play his 59 Les Paul standard… I can die happy and content😂 Thanks again for this monumental achievement and contribution to Led Zeppelin lore👏👏👏

I had intentions of skipping school to buy Zeppelin tickets for the 2 Cincinnati shows in 1977. The friend that was going to drive us to score the tickets flaked out on me at the last minute. I was so pissed. So then in 1980 I had graduated from HS and I made sure to score tickets for the 1980 American tour of Led Zeppelin. When the news broke of Bonham’s death broke I was devastated. I’ve seen most of the greatest rock acts of their day,but never got to witness Zeppelin live although I did see Page & Plant on tour. I also saw Robert Plant many times on his solo venture.

Upon this series’ ending, I feel the same way I usually do when think about Zeppelin’s demise; sad, sullen, empty, depressed, etc…. This list could go on but I won’t. Many others feel the same way as I do. Their rise didn’t take anywhere as long as other successful bands did. It seems that right out the gate their presence was immediately felt and as apparent and obvious as a head-on collision. They were out conquering the real world and audiences knew they were genuine. They truly were the perfect band at the perfect time. The brightest stars though usually shine for a short time is how the saying goes. This was true for Led Zeppelin. I remember many of the events covered here in this final episode. Being 12-13 years along by ‘80, my ears caught on to the news casts that my dad would watch. It was such a simpler time and I’d give my life’s savings to go back just for one day. I remember hearing In The Evening on the radio CONSTANTLY…along w/ Tom Sawyer, Dirty Deeds, Winning Man by Krokus as well as many of the classics from years past. As the eighties rolled on I started putting the Zeppelin puzzle together by way of bootleg vinyl. I still have em all too! Thank you again my friend for this series. It was very enjoyable for us Zeppelin die-hards. You’ve done your homework and then some! I now wait for your next project….whatever it may be!

@@outonthetiles hello my friend, I know we’ve corresponded before and you’re a true Zeppelin brother. As much as it can seem that time drags by, it fly’s right along. Relentlessly. I try to imagine and take into consideration John’s family and the other members’ absolute shock to the news that Bonzo was unresponsive that day. The poor guy suffocated. Too much liquor in the belly at one time. It could happen to any one of us. One things’ for sure; when John departed, he took Zeppelin with him. During one of the LA Forum ‘77 shows, Robert was introducing Moby Dick/Over The Top. During one quip he says: “…the man who said he’d go back to a building site ANYTIME, and we all agreed.” By ‘77 he was starting to feel the sheer weight of being the drummer in LZ. It was a demanding seat. Perhaps the most demanding drum throne in the history of Rock. I’m glad John decided to be a musician. If he hadn’t sacrificed his time and ultimately his life for it, we’d never have experienced his greatness.

(they'd got it from the afternoon papers). At first I thought it was a stupid joke, inventing hokey stuff, because it sounded completely improbable - I mean, who would want to kill one of the Beatles?? Then after maybe fifteen minutes it struck me, what if it's true? :(

THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT A BAND I'VE EVER SEEN!! I am transfixed. Just for my own personal copy (not to distribute or anything), I've burned a Blu-ray with the 7 episodes and am watching it now in my home theater. It is stunning. Amazing work, my friend. IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR is my first Zeppelin album. Just an accident. I was blown away instantly by IN THE EVENING. PRESENCE is still my favorite Zep album...but IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR is up there. And frankly, I listen to the three left-over songs (from CODA) as if they're part of IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR. These ten songs show so many shades of the band...as PHYSICAL GRAFFITI did. And when people try and claim the band "softened" at the end, just take one listen to WEARING AND TEARING. I've read 20 books on Led Zeppelin. I have all the pro-shot shows that have surfaced on Blu-ray or DVD. I have a great HD collection of their 8mm concert clips. And yet, I'm learning so much about this band just from this documentary. It is BEAUTIFULLY done. I applaud you, JCM. I cannot wait to see more. I will soon give a donation as well.

I never agreed with the critics on this album. Sure, it's different. But EVERY Led Zeppelin album was different. The fact that Plant and Jonesy led the writing is a plus! And seriously, Page and Bonham's work on this album is tight and, in some places, downright beautiful. I get the "but keyboards" reduction. I do. I was there. The dx7 presets put a dark cloud over 80s music production. But on this album, JPJ is a pioneer in the dawn of polyphonic synthesis, and his work here is brilliant and tasteful. In Through the Out Door is a masterpiece. Thank you so much for this series.

I of course instantly recognized him despite the faux normalcy of the moment. His Amex proved what I already knew as he sheepishly looked up and wittily said, “oh, so you recognize me.” Basically exactly what and how he spoke to Zep at the hall of fame awards. After catching my breath, connecting that he was in town with his ingenue Diamanda Galas, and definitely not appearing cool, I for the next 7 minutes did everything in my persuasive powers to win a dinner invite. I failed. Heavenly.

This amazing video series is without a doubt, the finest, most detailed, intense, and complete body of work as a documentary covering the entire era of Led Zeppelin ( let alone the making of In Through the Out Door ) I've ever had the pleasure of watching. I learned a lot, some things I never knew before, and really enjoyed every moment.........I sincerely thank you and those who worked hard with you, to make this essential body of work possible. ..........Cheers, and wishing you all the best, from: Steve....Melbourne, Florida.
