This documentary is done from a labour of love for The Stones. I am by no means declaring my self any expert or know it all, 100% not. I just love The Stones just like you.
This documentary by no means declared as a professional delivery. It is done with simple IPhone and IMovie. A DIY project.
I am just compiling these details for fans that may NOT know about this timeframe. Also, to prove how great the STONES are and why this album is pure genius.
There are so many doubters of The Stones, and felt there was a need to put this out for us and future fans. From a fan for the fan. I sincerely hope you get something out of this and enjoy it!
Feel free to leave comments and let me know.
If there are any impolite/nasty/non-productive /complaining comments you will be removed from this channel immediately. I have zero tolerance! For the 2% dislikers that usually have nothing else better to do but complain AND never contributed to anything, I think you miss the point and will never understand!

All of your documentaries on the Stones are extremely well done with such great detail I can't believe there are not millions of views. Maybe it will be found through time - the quality of work is definitely there to warrant growth of views. When I was younger this would have been a dream to have access to such amazing content though I am still very interested today just health issues have taken more concern. Thank you for your time making these, they are masterpieces to any true Stones fan.

Brian you hit the nail on the head. I got fed up with folks thinking they are supplying the public details, but reading off of Wikijokeia. Too many people saying they disliked their great albums. Folks not knowing how to understand how or what to listen to. Got so tired of all the negativity. I would think more would have seen this, but figured it would be time. thanks for the support!!

I dig your documentaries, and the fact that you owned up on the Anita/Jamaica jail bit was admirable. As far as the negativity aimed at them--as great as they are, the Stones bring out the worst in some people.

Love the presentation and how on an even keel you are. I am still a bit confused on some of those major issues concerning Keith's substance abuse and relationship with Anita.. Maybe you can provide more clarity.. in one of your segments in the docu it seems Keith was planning on giving up the hardstuff to avoid jail time but then you slide in he meets up with the flying burrito guy living on a hefty Inheritance that was known to be the provider of substances and cash for buying it in Nelle Cotte France, when the band was living and working on their album there- avoiding hefty tax penalties( so they flew to France). Wgen Keith got nabbed in Toronto,the trust fund friend/musician showed up and Keith gets loaded again.Then Keith takes the electrode cure But the electrodes fell out while he slept and he cold- turkeyed.. then keith decided getting off the hard stuff was more important than going to jail (good point). so was Keith Pulling away from Anita who seemed to like staying high.. And how did he parent Marlon the times he stayed/lived at RonWood's pad, and even went on Wood's honeymoon with Wood and Jo..was Anita out of the picture then? You are doing a great job. This is all such fascinating material, as I, almost went into doing substance abuse work,but the relapsing of users is so heartbreaking, I couldn't/ bear the disappointments and tragic ending . Thanks for all your hard work.Great job! Much appreciate it.

Thanks again, Steve! I will be looking out for part three. Why the Stones never released the outtakes as a separate country-ish album still baffles me. We may have the 'Some Girls Reissue Bonus Disc' now on which they're featured on, but still, I think it could stand well on its own... In a just world, 'Do You Think I Really Care?' (or 'Yellow Cab') would have seen a 1978 release and continued airplay. But I guess we didn't deserve it!
@FlipSideCT
@FlipSideCT 2 года назад
I would think the only obstacles to get something out is TIME and someone to push them to do it. The Archives live albums I thought was a sign that they figured it out but, did not branch out to studio. Also REISSUES, should have ALT TAKES and OUTTAKES 100% agree!

Watched the Black and Blue parts and the first two of these Some Girls ones...amazing presentation and insight into the era, the sessions, and inner workings. Love it. Being born in '75, my existence doesn't know a world without these already established legends and the music permeated my soul as far back as the womb due my mom being a huge music fan. Its interesting that the finished album has always been known to be more Mick driven, but a closer look at these sessions show Keith coming up with many great ideas and loose songs that just didn't get finalized at that time. Thankfully, the deluxe editions of this album and Tattoo You gave us a few of those workings, as well as others that only add to the era and create a new listening experience and new realty. In regards to Do You Think I Care, I have spent quite a bit of time listening to that back up part as I was confused about how an old Keith vocal could be in sync with the new Mick vocal - after some time, its clear that its Mick laying down a very good modern impersonation of the late 70s Keith to back up his own new vocal. Its really too bad that Misty Roads and Munich Hilton never made a deluxe edition. Even if Mick couldn't wedge words well into Hilton, an edited and polished-up instrumental official release of that tune would have been a great addition. Looking forward to continue with your videos!

Thank you JC.....really dig your comments and geekness! glad you can appreciate the docs!! The turn on from someone is usually the intro for us. I try to break this down more for the non believers and doubters and folks who have no feelings to these albums. Not a TRUE Stones fan to me if they dislike albums......rather hear them say I do not listen to it as often as others, but their music (ALL OF IT) is brilliance! Yes, it is a very interesting listen and knowledge of what is done on some of these recent POLISHED outtakes. I wished they documented this process. It would be priceless to see how and what approach they did. thanks again!!!

It is obvious how much work you put into these labors of love. They are truly from fan to fans. So well done. You focused a lot of the outtakes, which I think is great. Because the Marconi sessions from '77-'79 gave us a huge amount of top songs.

a pleasure Steve....I do not recall anyone pulling this together that we fans can enjoy the sequence and time. I learned plenty myself. Like Let It Bleed, it is pretty much flawless. One of the reasons to make these docs was to train folks how and what to listen to a Stones album. Some just do not realize how to listen.....because if they did, they would understand the beauty! As you’ve heard (read) me go on ad nauseam by now, you know how much I love your videos/ documentaries. This one, though, I keep coming back to. I remember working in the city at restaurant when Some Girls came out and then not long after, Emotional Rescue (Summer Romance, Down in the Hole, and She’s So Cold are three of my favorite Stones’ songs). There was an ‘edge’ throughout all that was going, near and far, and New York was just ‘the end of the world,’ (being young, whereas would one want to be? ). And these two albums sort of reflected what many (certainly myself) were feeling. The Stones just seemed like the true Ny band. Years later, when I heard ‘Do You Think I Really Care,’ all those emotions came back. A round about way of saying I think you’re a terrific historian and your work is very much appreciated. Thank you!

@@FlipSideCT And I just thought of something; if we look at the Stones as being somewhat motivated/ pushed by ‘punk’ and the ‘new’ during this period, and if we consider that any remaining ‘innocence’ was lost after Keith’s bust in Canada, then the lyrics for Summer Romance take on more meaning: I can't help myself, help it if I'm older than you I can't help myself, help it if I'm older than you Over, over, summer romance I need money so much, I need money so bad And I can't be your mum, don't want to be your dad I'm a serious man, I got serious lusts Gonna have to do away with this greasy kid stuff It's over now, it's a summer romance and it's through. Yo Steve, listen man, you’ve hit a home run again! I thoroughly enjoyed this doc . Again, lots of little things that I really did not know. As you know I am always impressed by all of your stuff. I’m always impressed with your labor, time, and so much effort as well. You always do it right, fan to fan! I especially liked the way you touched on a lot of these earlier songs that were left in the can. I agree man, some of them sound a lot better than the ones they used on later albums. I love the way you went into detail about all the different ways that they put so many different album covers together. I liked it, that was incredible. As a guitar player I like the way you always mention whenever they do songs in a different key from studio than on the stage and I know there are a few of them at least that they change for the stage. Well Steve, look, I’m really waiting for some girls number three because I love the way you break the songs down. OK then, cheers my friend, you keep on rocking. You are the king of this kind of stuff! Talk to you soon.-Philly DC.

Because as I make these, I think about it deeply and try to hit it on the head just as you said. I enjoy the album breakdowns (my way). I think so many folks do not listen properly, and do need hand holding...that is ok, but glad to help folks out. I myself would like others to do this for other bands. There is one guy that does this for THE DEAD playing live and super geeks out explaining while they play the technical side of what each band member is doing. It is fantastic shit'e. Hello Steve; Part 2 of the Some Girls documentary a continuation of incidents & events that occurred during the recording of the LP. Which includes various sessions, demos, outtakes & bootlegs recorded while making this landmark LP. As explained the story paints a picture of the band as it relates to recorded tracks both issued & unreleased. Showing off some not so well known Stones tracks that are wonderful to hear. Coupled with Keith's court dates & his relationship with Anita that caused unneeded stress for both Keith & the group. A outstanding compilation of Stones tracks taking the viewer thru this period of their career. Good video, filmed, spliced together with a photo gallery & musical soundtrack in a well narrated & informative way. Take care, Tina & Pat!~

I so look forward to your Stones releases...you never disappoint and always put out an entertaining doc, chock full of info that satisfies even the most rabid fan. As you so perfectly put it, these productions of yours are a labour of love by a (SUPER COLOSSAL) fan for fans. The “Coming Soon” statement at the end, letting us know there is a next installment, also put a personal stamp on your work. I had that ABKCO 2 LP greatest hits set that you showed and hadn’t seen it for decades. In fact, it was the first music I owned of the boys, in the late 70s. Once I started getting all their full albums, I got rid of it and have wondered for years who was behind it. It never dawned on me that it was by ABKCO as it has a chintzy look. I was too young to realize that ABKCO was a real record company. With a name like that I filed it away as a K-Tel like release which made no sense at all for a major band since K-Tel did compilations of songs of bands or years. I also remember the Rutles special. I was in Jr High when that came out. I'd forgotten Mick’s whole interview and had no recollection of Ronnie (as a punk) at all. It’s wonderful how the band keeps putting out “new” releases of older music that hasn’t seen commercial exposure before. Many think they have completely mined the vaults for those reissued lps/cds but I still think they have a treasure trove that’s unheard by even superfans. Just look at the 3 bootleg CDs of outtakes in 2020. The gems on Fully Finished Studio Outtakes were impressive and very worthy of commercial release. While the band’s sound has evolved over time, from lead guitarist to lead guitarist, it changed the most while also staying the same once Ron came on board. Ron gave the band a different style than what Brian and Mick T produced, but at the same time he adds a consistent sound. It’s punkier, bouncier, choppier, and not as smooth or experimental as what Brian and Mick T brought to the band. His weaving seems to be what Keith needs as they act like a team. Ron brings much more than his underrated musicianship though. He brings value as a translator, negotiator, peacemaker. Without him, the band may not have continued after the late 70s. I'm glad you mentioned Keno.org as his message board is where I first heard about you and your Stones doc series. That was good of you to give more detail about the tragedy with Scott Cantrell’s death. It does sounds like there was a lot more going on that was kept quiet, and that Anita wasn’t conducting herself in the most appropriate manner to put it politely. I hadn’t heard that Jeff Sessler and Mackenzie Phillips were also there. I managed to score a copy of the original Some Girls album cover, albeit without the disc inside but I was fine with that. You speak of getting us to check out the Live in Texas from 78 concert. You are so right about that show. When that release came out, the concert became one of my favourites of theirs right up there with Ladies and Gentlemen in 72, At the Max in 90, and No Security, San Jose in 99. They really sizzled on stage in Texas. Thank you again for this Maestro of Minutiae! I can’t wait for Part 3, which I'm glad you announced was coming as I was thinking there was so much more to be talked about.

Very enjoyable comment read Kathleen. You have a nice talent to express yourself and lay it out there. Thank you for all the support and so glad we click. I agree that even a ultra geek should watch and enjoy these. But I have not heard from some of the ones I thought I would hope comment. Oh well! I was laughing at your ABKCO story, as I was the same. I had not a clue. That is so cool you owned that double disk! I still see it a my vinyl shows. I just do not like hits packages now. Yes, I was glad d to find the Ronnie / Rutles piece. That 3 CD bootleg is a great gem for sure. I have not listened to it fully. I really love that ballad Still In Love With You from 82'. It brings me back to their 70's. You surely nailed the Ronnie chemistry. I am still very shocked how many do not care for his style and contributions. Despite his low points, he is the glue to them all. Cool you mention Cantrell....I did not want to go down that rabbit hole as it was a different time period and can be brought up later. She wrote a piece (not sure where originally) but it is on Keith's FaceBook page and mentioned in IORR.org. ...search on Google for "scott cantrell sister". It starts off with "I happen to be the sister of the young man, Scott Cantrell" and I am sure you will be glad to read it. pretty heavy. I did not know I am mentioned on keno.org, nice to know. I really try to share all the resources I can. SGirls original is plenty out there vinyl for about $20-30. Part 3 is being worked on now, just started today. @@FlipSideCT Hey Steve I'm actually trying to be less verbose with my postings but it’s hard with all the tidbits you give us to chew on. I used to watch all the parts in one of your dissections before I commented on all of them. It took me a few months, but I now find it easier and smarter to post after each Part and not once I watch the whole series. Your work “speaks” to me, so we definitely click. When that happens, it’s only right to let the other person know you appreciate what they bring to the table. Don’t be discouraged by not seeing remarks or postings by “regulars”. At the best of times, our lives get in the way, and schedules are not our own. Add in a pandemic and other things. I'm sure they have it on their list and even if they don’t post anything, just know that you have put a big smile on their face and have given them something to look forward to! Dude, MAKE the time to listen to all 3 of those CDs for Fully Finished Studio Outtakes. The product is outstanding. You may not be able to make such a huge time investment to hear them all at once but do one CD at a time. Or just dip your toes into these songs while on a walk, while commuting, doing errands, yard work, housework, or on a road trip. These tunes are worth it. Get a first impression and then do a deep dive. The one song that stands out from me is Part of the Night from 76. I love being transported back to the era the song, show, movie, video is actually from, or portraying to us. After you brought up the Scott Cantrell tragedy, I wanted to check the spelling of Mackenzie Phillip’s husband so I Googled it yesterday, and that’s when I came across the posting by his sister on IORR. That is quite a stark and sordid tale. Anita seems to have lost touch with reality, maybe due to the drugs, or rock star lifestyle, hedonism, narcissism, who knows. A tragedy for everyone there that night, no more than the poor teen. Where were the adults as we now say? It shocks me that his sister posted that on Keith’s Facebook page. That takes guts but the family must have been in incredible pain, starting before Scott’s death as the mother had committed suicide not that long before. I can’t be sure of the exact date, but my best guess of when I was on the Gas Gas Gas website (aka Gasland) by Keno.org was around when you put your series on Let It Bleed up. I don’t recall if he said how he found out about it, but he highly recommended it and said we should all check it out. The fact you two superfans knowing about one another is paying off for the rest of us. He lives out in Colorado and is an ex/retired (rock) journalist who seems to still have connections and inside info about the boys. Recently I have found my memory isn’t what it used to be as I can’t recall how many times I have seen some bands (in the case of the Stones, it’s 10x), so I think I will make a new passion project for myself, by going through all my ticket stubs---I have kept them all since 1979 (concerts, sporting events, art exhibits, etc)---so I can put them into spreadsheet. I'm a bit of an organizational geek/nerd haha.

Yes, I have started listening to the Studio Outtakes...at 61 years old, I am walking much more....so a good listen will be done. There is a good podcast Vinyl Radar A Stones podcast, 2 guys from Toronto. cheers and thanks for all...anytime!

@@FlipSideCT Hey Steve, I wish I could recall the actual name of the man behind the Gasland forum but I'm sure he is fine if you call him Keno. Everyone does. I'm sure he has contact info on his website. Most of his posts for the last few yrs have been only about his weekly Stones question poll as he has been trying to wind down things being retired and all, but he made an exception to post about your YT videos about the boys, and also when Charlie died (just like you did). Since it was unusual for him to do that, it caught my eye. Thanks for the heads up about that Stones podcast, Under the Radar. I'd never heard of it before. But like you, it's a Mom and Pop production coming from the heart. They also do deep dives into the minutiae. I'm amazed at their love of the band considering they were born in the 80s; the Stones were already my favourite band at that point by a few yrs. They even sound like older vets in the music industry. I'm slowly making my way through their episodes. If you hadn't told me they were Cdn and from Toronto before I started, I wouldn't have known until I believe they mentioned it later themselves, as I didn't pick up a hint of an accent, which I usually do. Perhaps though, it's harder to pick up an accent from your own neck of the woods. :)

@@kathleenwilliamson5151 Very cool you took action Kathleen. Yea, they are a bit younger, but into it. I am glad to see you seek the recommendation I made as we are similar that we just want to learn and learn. Not just with music. There are usually a small percentage of geeks that I see seeking that thrill, so I am glad you did! I will try to reach out to Keno when I get some time. cheers! steve

Thanks and kind regards Steve a for another nice installment . Wonderful to learn more about this time stopping album from that period. Fondly still recall how sweet those chords were from 'Beast of Burden' in the summer of '78 the first few times through a crappy car radio in my 74 Toyota Corona. They were their catchiest and smoothest in years. FYI have you heard of the "Blushing Brides"? They were a CDN stones cover band who played in the east here on both sides of the border. They started in my college town ( Kingston, On) actually and were like our own 'Otis Day and the Knights' lol . Just had their 40th anniversary tour in 2019 w a stop at , of course, the "El Mocambo'.

a real pleasure and glad you let me know. There is so much we do not know, and need to share. Beast was a tune that was so clean I did not even think of it as a Stones tune. But when you hear it in headphones it is a whole new song. Yes, living in NJ in we got to see Blushing Brides and Stick Fingers bands. It was great to see them and at least give us a taste. I did catch the BB video clips at El Mo, and that is cool to see and to see them still going! thanks for all

@@grenda5 I believe so. They may have taken a break w covid though. I saw them at the Queen's (Alfies) pub (small about maybe 200 capacity) and they played at a dance in the hockey rink ( again w maybe a few hundred students at most). They sounded great in these small venues and put on a very authentic reproduction of a ~ 72 tour Stones live performance.

I wish Ronnie had kept the pedal steel guitar in their albums. The Stones always had a bit of twang. I always hear a lot of country music in Delta blues. Back in the day, "black" and white music were very similar in rural America.

nice Dave....thanks for being there and jumping on for the ride here. I was burning when I was reading the trash on Summer Romance....I do not want to call folks out directly, but they can not call them selves a fan if they can't dig any tune they do. Most logical is ER.....I do want to do Tattoo You, but still up in the air. Undercover / Dirty Work would be a thought, and a strange time.

@@FlipSideCT That song done in the studio instrumentally is awesome! Their video of it was awesome too as Mick lip synced and the band pretended to play live to their own song! I've seen videos of them doing it live and they just can't get that awesome instrumental sound that's on ER....Do you know how they did that cool heavy bass beat? Who did it? Bill? Keith? Ronnie? It was so crisp and clean and rythmic all the way through!

@@DaveGoldShow well if you are geeking out, I got to.....had to look some info up. Yes Bill all the way, and some different touches then usual. Excellent work for sure. The instrumental is fantastic and good for the doc. Right, Very clean sound. The song is not over done, which is what we like. Promo video is good. The live versions do not have that studio sound for sure. I gave a listen to 2006 and 81 live versions, and do like them both.
