There's just something so weird, yet oddly wholesome to seeing the Stormtroopers, Shoretroopers and all the other Imperials being genuinely happy that Migs and Mando made it to the base alive. We're just being used to the Empire being this amorphous mass of pure evil (with a tiny sliver of "normal people" showing in the two Death Star troopers chatting about landspeeders) that it's easy to forget that not every single Imperial personnel is a mustache-twirling black hearted villain, but they can be just regular grunts getting a shit posting, be it on some backwater planet defending exploding freighters or getting eaten by teddy bears while guarding a shield generator in Space Vietnam. That's two factions of "well, they're just bad guys" the Mandalorian show has added at least some depth to now. Although one could argue that The Book of Boba Fett turned dial on the "oh, we can negotiate, they're not just bloodthirsty savages" side of the Tuskens up to eleven. That being said, Richard Brake is just a master at playing absolute and utter assholes you can't help but cheer when they get a blaster bolt to the face. That fucking grin when he goes "To the Empire". And, on a different note: Rest in Peace, Lunch Trooper. All you wanted is to have a quick bite to eat and some blue milk. Shine on, you little diamond.
@p.h6849
@p.h6849 Год назад
Yeah, i mean after all most stormtroopers are just regular people that under the influence and propaganda of the empire do believe that what they do is right. I mean most of them were probably just people that wanted to go to the imperial academy to "make the galaxy a safer place" or make money for their familys

To me, the Luke Rescue sequence was the absolute pinnacle. We'd read about Luke in the novels for decades, and he was awesome, but this was the first time we'd really _seen_ it. I love the look on Gideon's face when he realized it was Luke b/c based off of his reaction alone, the Empire was terrified of Luke. Kinda like how the Rebellion was afraid of Darth Vader. Luke and Vader may have been the exact opposite of each other, but in some ways, they were exactly the same.

These last three episodes are the best Star Wars I've seen since... Rogue One. WRT the big reveal, I didn't get who it was until I saw the green saber. The slow reveal of all the defining characteristics of him was perfect. First the X-Wing, then the cloak, then the green saber, then the gloved black hand, then the belt buckle from RotJ, then... THE FACE! I watched reactions to that moment for weeks to share in that... moment. Meant a lot to me having grown up with the Expanded Universe (the REAL post RotJ, still Canon to me) and see him in that timeframe was... everything. :) I shed many a tear. Mayfeld was the next biggest surprise. Really showing how to give a character a proper arc in less than an hour. If only they knew how to do that for the new movies. Ugh.

I remember so clear the day I was watching this episode for the first time. ”one x-wing. Great” and when the x-wing flies into the hangar I said to myself: ”Nooo.. Luke? Nooo.” And when I started viewing how the Jedi cleaning up the dark troopers with no problem at all, I still didn't believe they where doing Luke. It was when I did see the green lightsaber followed by the prostetic hand that I knew it was Luke. It is the best last episode to a season I have ever seen, ever. No matter what show, no matter what category. What I like the most was how well guarded that that secret was. Not even the actors and actresses knew what Jedi it was going to be. Kate Sackhoff(Bo Katan) has went on interview and said she was told it was going to be Plo Koon. I even remember reading that some midrange managers at Lucasfilm was PISSED weren't informed. And today with all information going around and how hard it is to keep something secret, especially in a big Hollywood production, they managed to keep this secret. Two big thumbs up. Star wars fans are very likely the most passionate fans that exists. That comes with both good and bad things. Star wars fans are the most engaged, outspoken, loving, caring fans. That isn't always a good thing. Mandalorian season 2 was something that EVERYONE agreed was insanely good.

So to give some context to Mayfield's character development: Operation Cinder was the Emperor leaving behind one last order for his navy and troopers to burn... everything. And that includes their own facilities, and their own troopers if they were still on the ground. It was such a massive crime that in one of the novels it says that after Cinder, anyone who remained with the Empire was pretty much by default considered to be supportive of the Empire's War Crimes (with some exceptions of course for those whose circumstances didn't allow them to defect or desert). The fact that Mayfield clearly DID leave the Empire after Cinder shows that, despite the bad things he did and despite his service to the Empire, he was not truly evil. (Source: Battlefront 2 storyline and Alphabet Squadron Book 1- neither of which I consider spectacular, but they DID start to flesh out the post ROTJ world, which Mandalorian is continuing, and thus are worth playing/watching a playthrough and reading, respectively, at least once).

Great reaction to an awesome ending! Zero spoilers ahead. Season two was so much that older fans (like me) have been waiting for since 1983. Proof that Boba Fett is a major bada$$. Luke as an unstoppable force like a Jedi Master should be. And the little suggestions that it might be Luke throughout this finale that made us go "No. No. You're kidding? Don't mess with us." One X-wing, the green lightsaber, the black gloved right hand, the sort of outfit that we last saw Luke wearing in Return of the Jedi, the powerful Force choke crushing the Dark Trooper, and then, finally, the reveal. Many of us cried at that. Here was our hero, finally at long last, as he should be. Season two also had elements that we were wanting to see from other shows. Live action Ashoka Tano who looked so much like the animation version and was seriously strong in the Force. References to characters from other shows such as Thrawn, which led to questions about what else may have happened after the end of those shows. Bo-Katan, Koska Reeves, Fennic and Cara Dune returning to the team and then joining together as the Star Wars version of the Expendables, kicking butt and taking names. The return of Mayfeld, who suddenly has extra depth as we understand why he was a nihilistic mercenary in season one: burnt out after watching his unit, his division, destroyed by an Empire that only cared about the leaders, not about the people. Mayfeld's redemption arc was nice to see, if somewhat brief, and Bill Burr did a great job showing Mayfeld's justified anger and turmoil within. "We've all got to sleep at night." Loved that. If season two's finale had been the end of everything Star Wars, I would have still been happy. Such a great wrap up of the first two seasons all in an absolutely crowd-pleasing finale, and a window into how our heroes of recent and long ago days were doing. Perfect.

(Or I would have missed the Ollie outtakes!) 🐶 Like you, Addie, I know that many of us in Star Wars fandom were crying unexpectedly by the end of this episode. Seeing Luke was amazing enough, and knowing that Mando was going to have to give up Grogu brought strongly conflicting emotions, but when Mando removed his helmet so that Grogu could see his face!?! Let me just say that there were lots of onions in the room! 😭 Addie, when did you suspect that the Jedi was Luke? The first few glimpses of him fighting the Dark Troopers are via security cameras, whose views are fairly monochromatic. As soon as we get a live view, we can see that his light saber is bright green. At that point, I was 90% sure it was going to be Luke. Of course, I was ecstatic to be proved right! 😁

The intros for these last 2 episodes absolutely slap!! They really convey the serious vibe of it by upgrading from the usual xylophone effect to multiple musical instuments in the intro... The internet quite literally blew up the moment Luke showed up to rescue the team (which is why the episode is called The Rescue), just the best surprise you could ever give star Wars enjoyers... Really loved the ending scene when Mando took off his helmet, culminating 2 seasons of storyline by finally showing his face to Grogu before their final goodbye... it's a situation where they clearly don't wanna leave each other, but they have to leave each other... since that's what the mission was... just wow!! Looking forward to the Boba Fett reactions! ✨ Edit: Also i would have loved to see a lightsaber duel between Moff Gideon and Luke. Don't know why that didn't happen. Most everyone had the same emotional reaction to seeing that the jedi who arrived to save Grogu was Luke Skywalker himself. For my part, I suspected it might be him, when I saw the green lightsaber. Great reaction as always. And like the others have commented, definitely watch The Book Of Boba Fett.

I suggest you watch other fans' reaction videos to this episode, you'll realize how we all felt about it. And yes, watch the book of Bobba Fett before continuing The Mandalorian. This gave us Luke like we didn't get to see him in the last three movie: as the powerful Jedi he became. His presence in this episode is as badass as that one Sith I won't name at the end of Rogue One. Thank goodness The Mandalorian made that happen for us because the movies sure didn't when they should most definitely have.

Writing for post-OT Luke must have a lot of the same problems that writing for Superman does. How do you write a story or create conflict or tension around a good-guy that can and should always win any situation you put them in with ease. The Sequels had a lose-lose situation trying to write Luke, which of these options results in the worst most hated movie? A) Have Luke be perfect and infinitely powerful? If so, how do you have a movie? Wouldnt Luke just stop the bad guys instantly? B) Have Luke seem perfect and powerful but lose to a new bad guy and die? The backlash The Last Jedi got is nothing compared to what would have happened if they tried that. C) Have Luke be perfect and infinitely powerful, but events in the movie are so remote and unimportant that Luke barely gets involved. Mando gets away with it because it's a personal tale on the outer rim, a new movie trilogy couldnt get away with operating on such a small scale. D) Have Luke be plagued with self-doubt which limits his effectiveness and role in the new trilogy, and mirror the self-exile of Yoda in the process. I'm glad we goth both versions of Luke. IMO a sequel trilogy could never have pulled off a god-mode Luke, I know fans like to think they want to sit through 9 hours of Luke just crushing bad guys and being unstoppable, but it would be incredibly boring. Having him show up at the end of someone else's adventure like he did in Mando was a perfect way to use him, sparingly.

@@MikeHesk742 Easy, have Luke go to find a way to defeat Snoke, who shouldn't have been killed off like that, find that the place he ended up caused him to become so powerful he couldn't control his Telekinesis, making him too dangerous to be on a starship as it would rip the ship apart...have things just floating due to his power being close, which is what Mark Hammil said he was told was going to be happening, then have him train Rey. He's not a quitter then, not a failure, didn't give up, still gives fans what they want, and then you could still have him become one with the Force after training her, having him holding out from doing so due to seeing a vision of her arrival and needing training. Hell, you could still have him pull off the same "fight" with Kylo Ren. There were ways to deal with him without shitting on everything the character stood for and was to people for 40 years.

It's makes my brain melt how scared of complexity people in this fanbase are. The sequels handled Luke beautifully, an actual real person spurned from his arc in TLJ rather than the cardboard cutout people wanted. Had Like been perfect all we'd hear is how boring he is and how SW doesn't like characterization.

Thanks for the reaction. If you want to see an improved, less CGI-looking version of Luke's appearance in Mando look for the scene redo by a YTer named Shamook. Yep. It’s still a shame that this one scene alone did more for the Luke character then they did for him in two movies (I don’t really count TFA.) but I have to say, the nitpicky part of me actually wouldn’t have minded if he had use more of his force powers instead of his lightsaber. I think it would’ve been kinda cool to see him just walk through the ship and destroy everyone with just a wave of his hand.

24:10 i see you need a refresh of memory, in episode 2, it was said that Jango was the donor for all the clone troopers under one condition, he wanted one clone for himself, an unaltered clone that would age naturally. he wanted to be a father, but just wanted to skip that noisy part

As I’ve said before, I kinda wish that they hadn’t kept Luke such a secret even from the cast (you notice his identity isn’t mentioned during the dialogue, and R2 isn’t shown in any shots with the rest of the cast) because it would’ve been a spectacular bookend with the beginning of the episode, where Cara shoots the Imperial who was at Alderaan, to have her meet the guy who avenged Alderaan. (And maybe say, “Hey, Farmboy!” ‘cause that’s how the Rebels identified him, as the unknown farmboy who joined up and became a hero.) Now that you’ve seen this, you should see the other reactions to this episode. It’s probably the greatest Star Wars moment since Darth Vader threw the Emperor down the reactor shaft, and there were so many tears, and shouts of “That’s f*cking Luke!” Sometimes from the same people.
