The directors show up to break the fourth wall and explain the ridiculous ending is one of the most unique and clever things I've seen a game do, specially a movie licensed game
As a big Matrix fan this was the moment that was in my mind when I watched Matrix Resurrections. The film was incredibly goofy and off the wall and I understand why many disliked it, but personally I instantly remembered the pleasant surprise of the meta-comedy at the end of Path of Neo and thought yep, this is the same Wachowski chaotic energy I've known and loved 😂
The ending was condescension. They decided that the average gamer wouldn't be able to handle their high-concept Christ metaphor. You know, the one a three-year-old could have written.
Snowskeeper Ferenczy no it was because people bitched about the actual ending of the matrix revolution and didn't want to see neo get finger fucked to death again....
the fact that you cant see the humor in them walking in to the ending of the game, in order to change the ending to just make it more fun, then you missed the point.
I just love how they literally appeared ingame to say "Yeah, we don't give a shit. Have your giant... autobot... Smith... thing... boss! Have fun :3" :'D
AnvaGames Yeah, I mean imagine playing a very long and not to mention, difficult video game and your character just dies at the end anyway. Mega- Smith actually made sense too because, at that point, Smith had the combined power of everyone connected to the Matrix.
generalcoon47 Yea it did make a lot of sense. I loved the Cinematic's of that part. I agree it would have been lame if they ended the game the same way they ended the movie.
Personally, I think the concept was excellent and perfect for a Matrix game. The way the fight was done, however, is unfortunately not as good as the concept. Though this is just my opinion and others may disagree with me.
I love how that moment is a memento from the time they were men and still called The Wachowski "brothers". Insane how much difference has with nowadays.
So, they originally filmed Megasmith for the movie, threw it out cuz it's super-cheezy, then pretended they made it just for the video game and put it in there?
the ending is ridiculous and im not even talking about that giant smith thing... in the movies, nobody actually won the war! peace simply was granted by the machines in return for neo s favour!
God, this is literally one of the best, funniest game I ever played... Also much better final boss than Smith vs Neo battle in film ... Holy shit, this is soooo cheesy... In the best way possible, of course! Also, this personal message Wachovski left is actually very neat touch
I am going to agree. The way the story was progressing in 1 & 2 I thought for sure it was going to be a system inside a system but it seemed as though they were shooting for the big pay day. It was watchable and effects remarkable but the story line especially considering the first two were so solid and this was the "finale'" it was lacking of substance and felt "unfinished".
This game was awesome, the ending was just fantastic, even though I never beat the game. I really liked the ending though. The question is, will there be another Matrix movie, or will they leave it.
the premise to the movie ,jesus thats cool. this game was frankly atrocious and judging by the lack luster reveals we got at e3 we wont need hope the next one will be any better. because it wont.
***** You can't say it won't be any good if the movie hasn't even come out yet. It's like saying a NFL team is going to win the Superbowl when the Football season haven't even started yet. Just because your not looking forward to it doesn't mean other people are not looking forward to it.
and? I dont see how that has any prevalence in my decision making. this is my reasong movie based video games to date: god awful. it is literally a scientific theory (not a law if you know any thing about the peer review process you know what I am talking about) because it has been observed over and over and over and over and over. there is literally zero evidence supporting that the next matrix move and game will be any good.
I was a kid when this came out and was a huge fan of the franchise. I barely got through the first disc on game cube. I wanna finish the whole thing. Smh. Love this shitttt
Nope, it's just something they came up with for a climactic final boss. If this was in the actual movie it would be the most generic holywood tripempossible, so of course Doug Walker thought it would make a better ending.
27:12 This is the part that really emphasizes the "We want the game to end with a really fucking sick final battle against a big guy." There just being a HUGE pair of sunglasses just... AROUND. On a random billboard, gigantic, and built like actual sunglasses, with moving temples (arms) and everything. Just fucking hanging out on top of a random building. That's so contrived that it wheels back around to being really fucking cool. And the little grin Mecha Smith does after putting on is everything to me.
- Now, the real reason we're here is to discuss the big problem we faced in turning these three movies into a videogame. You see, at this point of the story Neo stands on the verge of Satori, ready to resolve the paradox of choice and choicessness, the free will vs fate. But that only can be achieved through an act of surrender, which occurs after he's abandoning the perspectile (?) nature of truth, accepting the totality of present consciousness, which ultimately allows an evolutionary transition, transcending the carkesian Lama (??) to the emergence of dealing it's spirit which, then, provides the world with the choice of a third path, the path of Neo, the path of peace. - You promissed you wouldn't do that. - Shit! Sorry.
20:31 "This is my world, mister Anderson, MY WORLD!!!" Amazing fucking line, should definitely have been in the movie. I know a version of this actually is, but this one's way better imo.
Fuck that 4th wall breaking ending is so cool, I wish the Wachowski Brothers were still this self-aware. Though, if the theory that Larry stayed on to direct Resurrections, SOLELY so he could bastardize it and make it at least memorable, is true, then they may still have a bit of that self-awareness left in them, a tiny amount that Hollywood managed to not completely wring out of them.
Considering how you're deliberately dead-naming them I'm not sure if it's even worthwhile replying to you, but what you state as a theory is just actually what happened. LANA Wachowski was uninterested in directing another Matrix movie, but WB kept pushing it on her. LILLY left to go make Work in Progress with Abby McEnany. It took the death of Lana's parents and her best friend to decide to make Resurrections into a coda for the original trilogy, a self-indulgent fanfic meta-sequel to help her cope with her losses and bring back the characters she created and loved. And deliver a huge fuck you to WB, because at that point after Jupiter Ascending (even starting with Cloud Atlas) they were already filming primarily on the German film circuit at Babelsburg so I wouldn't even consider them to be part of Hollywood at this point. Also it was a great movie that was never meant to reach the heights of the original trilogy, and I think a director can do whatever she wants with revisiting her own franchise even if fans like you don't care for it. :)
Who knew that the sisters (who were the bros at the time) would be telling 10 year old me to enjoy enlightenment. And ten year old me looked at it as a passing thought just to get to the action, the irony
Okay, you know when you imagine an old game to still look amazing because it did back when it was released? Well, the gameplay graphics look awful now. BUT THOSE CUT SCENES. Is it me or do they look as good as a lot of stuff on the PS3?! When all the Smiths become Ultimate Smith in particular.
I wish they used the same soundtrack as in the movie. The scene when they run towards each other in slow-mo is awesome with the movie soundtrack, but here... well, and the whole fight that follows just isn´t the same as with the "Neodammerung"-soundtrack.
I remember finishing this game in college With my brother and then girlfriend The suddan boss change was epic and the mega Smith boss battle was just down right amazing but When the ending video rolled on and we are the champions played All 3 of us were dumbfounded and thinking off all the godamm songs why this but Hey This song is a staple song when victory is achieved so overally nostalgia ....
