The Matrix Resurrections: An Embarrassing Failure 

Neo dodging bullets was just a fiction. Lawrence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving actually dodged bullets, when they escaped this film.

All jokes aside, Christ Tucker's portrayal of Ruby Rod, a futuristic live streaming diva megastar, was some of the best character acting I have ever seen.

This film felt like malicious compliance to me. "Oh, you want another Matrix movie? I'll give you another Matrix movie. Here, here's your f***ing Matrix..."

Dude this movie made me appreciate the matrix reloaded so much more.

I’m 100% convinced that scene mentioning Warner Brothers is exactly what happened. All Fake-Smith had to do was turn and wink directly into the camera.

The fact that they didn't have Hugo Weaving and Laurence Fishburne made my choice to not watch it very easy. Hugo is easily the best actor from the Matrix movies.

I feel like the scene of Keanu taking a dump was a metaphor for what the filmmakers did with this movie.

You know what sounds like a cool Matrix sequel? That whole backstory about the robots having a civil war. That sounds like a movie I actually want to see.

Honestly, the plot of machines having infighting and sentient machines working with humans was actually more interesting than the main plot. They should have led with that.

I just watched "The Matrix: Resurrections", and the only way that it even comes close to working, is if you view it as a parody, or as a movie, about another movie. Nice work, brother!

What baffled me the most is the casting. In the first movie every single actor was interesting and unique, even the side characters like mouse. Especially Laurence Fishburne, he such a strong presence everything he said sounded cool just because he said it, and Hugo Weaving, with his menacing calm. For this it's like they hired from some generic actor list. It felt like a school play of the matrix. Except for NPH, I'm glad you pointed out how good he was in this. The other reviews I saw lumped him in with everyone else. He wasn't even close to saving the movie but I found him to be the best parts.

I would've liked to see a companion/sequel to the Animatrix where other people were given a chance to craft stories set in the Matrix universe.

You're right, Morpheus dying in the MMORP is a lame excuse not to include Lawrence Fishburne as the movie itself could have just made the model look like him. Like think of the sense of making a Morpheus to try to garner help, but no one recognizes him and has to have it explained to them. Simply not effective in any sense of the word.

I'm sorry, but when JSG calls him Black Smith, I always imagine Hugo Weaving in a grey apron swinging around a glowing piece of hot metal.

To clarify- in the Original Matrix, the Agents can move through " software". That being REAL humans the agents would take over, and if the agent was " killed" while in the software the REAL human would also die. We see this when agents revert back and are the dead human. The " bots" are programs, No human body attached. They were created so the Agents no longer had to " lose crop" Not saying this is better or anything, but technically there is a difference that is explained.

Resurrections could've been a story about the search/extraction of Neo because an event is happening in The Matrix that needed his intervention because it involves Zion, but The Machines won't give them Neo cause they don't want to get involved or jeopardize the peace agreement between the Humans. The film could explore the emergence of illogicality of human emotions within Machines. We could've gotten new characters even Machine characters. Keanu could've made a small appearance in the 4th then continue being the One in the 5th or at least trying to become the Anomaly again. In the 6th, he could've have become a Machine God fighting aliens or whatever, but not this.

"Neo is trapped in the Matrix, again." That was pretty much all I needed to ignore this mess of a movie.

This movie is what depression medication does to you...apathy. It equally shits on the parts I liked of the matrix trilogy and the parts I hated of the trilogy. And then the only question that I am left with afterwards is...was any of this needed? I guess not. Do I even care enough to care about it? Not really.

They should've made a prequel trilogy, like Star Wars. Mopheus' journey to find Neo, his past relationship with Naobi, how Trinity got in the team, how the war against the machines started & a whole lot more interesting stories to show than what they did. The producers, directors & writers missed big time when they decided to make a sequel instead. Like Star Wars as well.

I subscribe for the theory that Lana sunk this ship on purpose, explain the low effort, heavy hand, odd dialog, rapid cuts... On and on! There's no way Lana didn't know this was shit.

I think Hugo was too smart to get involved. The equivalent of saying No to a F'd up continuation or spinoff of a Lord of the Rings movie. No need to mess with Perfection.

I wonder whether Hollywood ever questions itself about things like this, and just wonder shouldn't we ignore nostalgia and try to do something new rather than try to retcon what was beloved and adored.

I remember before this came out me n my co workers were so hyped about it then the next day after seeing it we all talked about how much we all hated it. And if you liked the movie heres what i gotta say about that, theres kids raised to think hitler was a hero, and theres kids who were raised in thinking a bad film is good

The quality of this movie makes sense when you notice that each Matrix film/side story got worse and worse after the first film.

They should've just made a movie of Neo and Trinity meeting again and we all get to debate whether it's a Matrix movie or not. That would've been the only acceptable meta treatment.

They should've revived the great Lawrence Fishburne's Morpheus and went in that direction. There was something intriguing about the original morpheus that I felt the other movies failed to explore. The original Morpheus needed more respect than what was given. Lawrence Fishburne's speech etiquette and manerisms as Morpheus were unrivaled. I felt like He made the feel of the first movie.

This is eerily like Wes Cravens new nightmare: - It's a failed sequel - It uses the "I imagined everything that happened in the past" trope - People retrace steps with the cheap excuse of seeing if things are real - You vaguely see things you've seen before, but they're underdone

Art imitates life. We've all been trapped in a crappy Matrix reboot since 2000.

There was zero sense or reason why Agent Smith was in this movie. He was a virus that was straight up deleted when Neo connected him to the machine core. There was also no reason for the machines to bring him back.

This movie got made because WB had pestered the Wachowskis for years for a new Matrix, and one of them finally said "fine I'll make the fucking thing but you cant be mad at how it turns out" I'd have more respect for Lana if she came out and said "yeah I didnt want to make this movie, but WB wouldnt stop asking and I figured if they were gonna pay someone to make a shitty sequel may as well be me."

Siblings and I riffed on what could have been a better movie: -Waking humans created power shortages, so now Naobi is actively trying to keep humans asleep -Bugs and their team need to awaken Neo thinking he'll help fight against new machines but he wants to stay asleep because Trinity died and her consciousness only exists in the Matrix -Morpheus/ Smith has internal struggles that put the team in deadly situations - he can't be entirely trusted -We explore Neo's mental health and actually let us believe the matrix was all the result of a sick mind It took us 10 minutes to come up with a better movie so we were pretty certain these ideas were talked about in the writing room much to our sadness but the studio probably said "BUT BULLET TIMEEEEEE"

Let's talk about how Hugo Weaving did a phenomenal job acting as Smith but no other actors can't reach his masterpiece level

matrix had so much potential, imagine a matrix series from the golden age of tv series around 2010.

When I saw the meta conversation between Neo and Not-Smith I believe that is what happened. WB approached the Lana Wachowski and said roughly "This is happening with or without you." So this film was partially doomed from the beginning. The original Matrix film was a passion project. This was a big pile of mess that didn't need to be made. I'm not sure if they have taken a profit from it but at this point I highly doubt it. We'll see if they turn it into a ride or video game to make up for the losses.

The idea of putting out a Matrix sequel almost 20 years after the story ended was a bad one to begin with. This series was done. It was over in 2003. Why are we getting another movie now? I guess you could say it was a cash grab but that grab seems to have failed miserably since it opened 50% below expectations. This is the kind of nonsense you get when you take a story that was finished with all of the threads and try to untie them to continue it. You get a tangled mess.

One of the best analysis videos on the Matrix Resurrections, pointing out many of thee contradictions and plot holes. One of the plot holes I've never seen brought up is how Sati's parents were killed because they worked on the super pods that Neo (and Trinity) were in, but they were running exiles before those were created and before there was even a plan to create those super pods. Further there were already rainbows at the end of the 3rd Matrix movie, so what's going to be the point to bring them back? It really bugs me how the big message was "It's not a binary choice between two options, there's co-existence possible", yet the real world Matrix is still just as strong and there's no intention of coexistence from the elites to the sheeple, like in the movie the machines using the "copper top" humans.

I loved the original Matrix trilogy. The first one was great. It was a solid film. The second and third film were flawed but entertaining. Overall I enjoyed the trilogy as a whole. The fourth was 💩

I have no idea why The Wachowskis still get work. They made 1 great movie (OG Matrix) and 2 decent movies (v for vendetta and speed racer) and the rest of their work has ranged from middling (matrix sequels) to outright god awful (jupiter ascending). It baffles me how Hollywood can reward people for making one good product 20 years ago. They're obsessed with the past. Also makes me wonder how much of the Matrix was actually them, or the team surrounding them at the time.

i think a tv-series of the matrix could work pretty well, just hackers running from agents, freeing people, and dying - no plot armor. could also be set in a previous matrix-iteration

I wasn't really on board with the whole "Lana made the movie bad on purpose" theory, but I have to say you make some pretty convincing arguments for it in this video. Also that "rusty scissoring" line was great.

I've personally written better Matrix fanfiction than this movie. And yes, I know fanfiction is cringe; that's my point. I actually really liked the premise of "did the previous Matrix really happen?" but that means dedication to that premise. That might have meant an entire Matrix film without gunplay, without kung fu. A psychological thriller more than an action film. But instead they did it half-assed and halfbaked.

The bullet time scene was the worst offender. The matrix agents were already capable of moving that fast in the first movie. They act like neo made this power and like it's slow motion. Neo just "moved like them" Guess Lana forgot how her own universe works

I loved Matrix Reloaded too - the action sequence on the highway with badass Morpheus is my favorite of them all.

Well...since the theme is that they're a matrix within a matrix then you can kind of dismiss this as a side story full of characters that only THINK that they're the original characters but they don't know they're not. To me, the original 3 are a masterpiece with and without their flaws. : )

by the end of the 3rd Matrix movie, when Neo died, its shown that the machines could still read his energy somehow, the thing that look kind a like an enlightenment imagery or some shit, so it is possible to bring him back to the matrix if its ASAP, maybe, even for reasons all non beneficial to the machines, but Trinity on the other hand, rigor mortis must've already sets in all over her corpse by the time Neo finished defeating Smith, plus Neo took his time reaching the center of the machines with all his blindness and shit.

The thing I hate about this trend of taking beloved franchises and rekicking it back to life, is they never have any creativity in how they do it. It's all box checking. Old cast? Check. References to previous scenes/dialog? Check. New dialog that thinks it's being smart/twisting the originals plot points? Check. New cast of quirky modern day feminist representation? Check. It's the Force Awakens all over again and if there's one highlight to this Matrix film it's how self aware it is at times. But that doesn't do the film any justice.

Splicing in Neo saying, "No," is my favorite part.

Hugo Weaving was asked to return, but unfortunately he was already under contract for another movie that would be filmed at the same time. He was hoping to work something out that he could also be in this as well but it never came to be. If I’m recalling this correctly Lawrence Fishburne wasn’t even asked to return which is strange. I wonder if there was some conflict behind the scene.

With a budget of $190M, the studio should be investigated to find out where the money went, because it sure as hell wasn't spent on production.

I actually liked the "good" sentinel robots. It was a little out of the short animation "Matriculate" from the Animatrix. They reprogrammed captured sentinels. The face masks on the train was realistic. Remember, it was supposed to be Tokyo. About 30% of people in Japan were wearing face masks on public transport like ... decades before the virus. It's just something they do over there.

The movie is a self-parody disguised as a sequel. Ultraman Zearth and Ultraman Nice are also self-parodies but had better writing, and are way more funny than this soulless cash grab.

"films are dead, games are dead..." a great criticism to society as I can see. Always profound that normally few people can understand the logic and the message of the movie. When you have to catch the attention of the sheep you need to do the "bullet time" and the deep message together.. this is why the first movie has that power and people love it... when you don't need to push "the bullet time" and when you don't need fame or money... you just focus on the truth. so the message is out there...

I watched it and I'll say this. The original Matrix was thought provoking and actually wanted a smart audience. This movie wants you to shut off your brain and watch the pretty colors, it wants a dumb audience. It was bland, forgettable, and uninspired. Just like most of what Hollywood is pumping out these days. In their attempt to be meta with the jokes and dialogue they just made cringe. I agree, this movie should've never been made.

One of the dumbest ideas for The Matrix: Resurrections was the black cat named “Dejá Vu.” And another dumb idea was the character named Bugs. This is Warner Brothers second attempt this year where a character named Bugs who has a connection to a rabbit being the savior of the film itself. Space Jam: A New Legacy and The Matrix: Resurrections are two WB film properties of this year that were a cash grab and included meta humor. But I would say that I enjoyed Space Jam 2 more than The Matrix 4 by storyline, world building, and humor. The Matrix 4 is just a fanboys fan fiction film of The Matrix posted up on RU-vid for clickbait and views. There was nothing new here but old characters returning back and looking at their crows feet wrinkles and a lot of exposition that ruins the film itself. Yahya’s portrayal as Morpheus is on par with shit writing that feels like James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and Alex Kurtzman were involved in a drinking game of who could rewrite the script to the first Matrix film in a modern day progressive society first. And lord and behold here we are with this terrible excuse of a new Matrix movie.
