@@gregkrazanski At this point, not many people will care. I mean... they basically admitted The Wachowskis had nothing to do with the first movie. This takes folk out of the whole narrative.
@@steelmusic2 Don't over think these things. The story is an inversion of biblical prophecy. Smith is meant to represent Christ. Simply invert things and you undermine the deception.
@@steelmusic2 I didn't read your comment. It's just appalling that people still discuss these things not knowing what the movie is all about. It's antichristian reversal. The villain is made the hero and the hero the villain. That they used a novel concept to grab and hold your attention isn't as obvious as it should be. People should have their wits about them to realize what these things are designed to do. When I say don't dwell on it, it's because it's absolute nonsense.
People will start to appreciate them more after the Resurrections' fiasco. Kind of like the Star Wars prequels were once the Sequel Trilogy was released.
Overall,The Matrix 1999 , remains a leap in the history of cinema, slo-motion, bullet time...etc. It was really a real masterpiece, the second part entered with the idea of war against the machines and the third part with the idea of peace with the machines and the one's sacrifice. And now what I don't understand why this sequel?
It's a response to complaints - embedded in a cash grab. The Matrix became something appreciated globally. It's money sitting on the table. A quick exploitation was prepared, but... the main writer needed some form of catharsis. Now, think of that writer being like... General Zod in Man of Steel when he gets the full range of frequencies for the first time. Comments come in from every angle and it's hard to deal with the incessant nagging. Claims of plagiarism... doubts about authorship... an inability to offer a decent follow up...failure after failure... It all adds up. On top of this - to someone with a reputation built upon a violated script, stolen and handed to them - the praises heaped upon the first movie would seem like an attack from all sides. Self-reproach is horrible. It's heavy, a burden. The guilty would come to despise the thing making their fame and fortune. This movie is an attempt at confession, but the pride is heavy and so it devolves into open insult.
@@mike04574 I wouldn't say that, but there was and probably still is a large group of fans throughout the globe, who subconsciously desire more of the genuine article. That the Wachowskis cannot deliver this is clear. Thus we get this faux introspection. A money grab was logical to WB. They'll probably try it again.
@@screenname1 wow that's a great take, I've never heard of that, but in this movie I thought there's no way they are the same people that did that absolute masterpiece, and it was just a hunch. 😆
Just came home from a movie theater where I went full of anticipation with 20+ years of being a die hard Matrix (trilogy and the video games + Animatrix etc.) fan... Well I liked this review more than the movie. That was some new meta level of bad. I want my money back and my memory wiped.
Honestly the ideas of the movie imo were solid. Neo and Trinity rebuilt, trapped in the matrix again for some reason, machines having a war over power, some a.i. joining with humans. But its the other nuances that were just terrible. 1. No real danger, all the side character survived fighting agents, exiles, and these "new" zombie bots. 2. Trinity getting powers for no reason (feminist shit I assume), 3. I didn't care for any of the side characters (if you are going to put effort into them put actually effort otherwise treat them like fodder and don't waste so much time on them). 4. Fight scenes were dumb most of the time
@@freebee8221 the worst thing was the humor. It's one thing to tell jokes, it's another to talk about how the way you delivered the line is a joke. Diet Morpheus literally asks if he nailed a Morpheus line at one point
This movie makes the last two movies look like a fucking masterpiece. Seriously...what were they even thinking with this film? It was basically Terminator Genyisis and a whole lot of meta going on in there. It was the matrix poking fun at the matrix.
i sure i always had appreciation for all old first 3 Matrix films but ANIMATRIX will always be one of the most tragically overlooked greater anime/movie of al times
With the Animatrix, they came up with 9 unique/fascinating/thought provoking ideas within the Matrix concept, which expanded on the original so much but are now unable to even think of 1 interesting storyline with this rehash.
I said the same thing. They couldve expanded on the Animatrix itself or at least put in the work for this movie to be on par (quality wise) with the Animatrix
Totally agree. Honestly a Matrix series, Black Mirror style would be amazing. Like it's all connected but the episodes stand alone. Worked in the Animatrix...
I didnt see that middle finger as aimed to the fans, if anything i saw that middle finger was aimed at WB for forcing them to make a sequel lol i HEAVILY doubt Lana Wachowski would ever do that to the fans in a franchise that means so much to her. It was pretty clear they didnt want to make this film and you can tell through out this film. Hell even the entire film for me feels like a middle finger towards Warner Bros for wanting to make the movie no matter what.
@@NebulousFumes Mhm your explanation totally makes sense. That explains why the middle finger was conviently placed between the memorabilia and collectibles. Because WB executives love collecting stuff! 🤣 Also, they literally used the WB joke in a scene. Why would they use the same joke twice.
This film was a therapy session for Lana Wachowski, literally. She confirmed it in multiple interviews. It wasn’t made with the intention of expanding the Matrix universe. It was made purely for her, which explains the blatant mountain of nostalgia meta bait. The meta narrative with the therapist is a mirror for her life as one of the creators of the matrix. This wasn’t made with the genuine care to offer an intriguing story to expand upon the matrix universe, it was purely to vent the directors personal grief from her personal life which I think is a little selfish. When you made a brilliant piece of art in any medium, even if you’re the creator, it’s not yours anymore. It’s liking creating a dove and then it flies off. It belongs to everyone and no one simultaneously. Sad thing is , It wouldn’t be that difficult to write a compelling and captivating new Matrix sequel because there’s a lot of material to work with. I would start with scenes from the animatrix, particularly from the second renaissance when the machines take over. It was handled with so much care and nuance in the animatrix in terms of concept and to see it rendered in a full feature film would be cool. That could’ve been the opening montage/10 minutes of the film as the entire sequence pans out.
Sadly, the first matrix movie and the animatrox movie are the only things from the franchise I can stand. The other three movies are fun to watch for the action and characters, but I have to turn my brain off to enjoy them.
@@screenname1 Wait, wait. How is Sophia Stewart _not_ the dude they stole from? She’s a real breathing person who is still currently doing RU-vid interviews about the whole situation. Aren’t there 20 years worth of court docs proving she wrote a lot of the core ideas? Who do you think is the true victim if not her???
It wasn't theirs to begin with. This movie is about as close as you may get to a public admission of guilt. The philosophy here is why not make a buck doing so. The first movie was ripped off almost directly from a comic book proposal handed to the brothers while they worked at Marvel Comics. Following a complaint - lampooned in this new movie by the Merovingian's monologue - their lawyers invented a diversionary fake victim (Sophia Stewart) to keep the brothers in court and thus safe (beyond the Statute of limitation). There's nothing worse than carrying lies around with you everywhere you go. This is true even for immoral souls. The longer you do so, the worse things get. You can see the results clearly in this particular case. Wachowski (whose name change is a legal precaution) is tired of carrying on with the pretenses, though this may not be some kind of moral spasm. Imagine having to lie about everything to every single person you meet for the next twenty years! Imagine the pressure - having to try to measure up with something you did not create, all the while looking over your shoulder! Every failed attempt these brothers made to recapture lightning in a bottle is based upon a handful of works by the man they'd originally stolen from. The Wachowskis are like classical Hollywood stars whose singing voices were secretly dubbed, traumatized by the risk of being outed. This particular movie is both a confession and a personal insult to their victim. Visit Milton Killer's channel for more details.
@@MimiRox13 Sophia Stewart's work is nothing like The Matrix, and she also admitted as much in the court case she lost. She's a false victim set up by Matrix lawyers back in the early 2000s.
This felt like recent Star Wars Threequel. There's this amazing universe with so much lore and possibility that you could do something in it, totally not related to the original and it would be so much better for it.
@@hadryantar At some point I couldn’t understand the plot and just stopped caring so you’re asking the wrong person 😂 But basically now Neo and Trinity own the Matrix and can do whatever they want with it.
Totally agree with everything you said, by the end of the movie i was thinking is that it? Everything felt pointless, stick with first movie, that’s all you need to see.
The writer carries a heavy heavy burden of guilt for having made his name on the back of an indigent young hopeful back in the early 90s. Everything Larry and Andy Wachowski have, and all they are known for, hinge upon the theft. Their victim resurfaced and offered the stolen work recently, and it seems this movie is a response to the forthright criticism in that expose. The 2018 RU-vid documentary: The Real Origin of the Matrix Story parts 1 - 3 are likely the cause of this response. The whole of The Matrix Resurrections is nothing more than anxiety fueled attempts to justify past actions, alleviate guilt and return insults. Shedding of guilt is often initiated by creating excuses which mitigate for past transgression. In this case it seems they wish to denigrate their victim, dismissing him as something intolerable. If you pay attention to the Merovingian's comments you get a sense of the reactionary nature of this movie. To comprehend the entirety of the whole Matrix Saga, including how it came to be, one needs only read the work stolen. Furthermore, the writer they stole from seems to have plans to finish what he started. This knowledge manifests perhaps in the so called fourth wall offerings pertaining to WB wanting to make the movie without The Wachowskis. This movie exposes the ugly truth about how Hollywood works. These writers never had abilities beyond knowing how to put sentences on paper. Anything spectacular or unique they simply copied. They even go as far as to identify their source. Visit Milton Killer's channel.
The movie felt soulless. I can't take the people defending this movie by simply saying "you just didn't understand it man". As if the movie isn't bad, we're just too stupid to get the message.
@@TwiStedReality1313 Oh geez haha now that I find hard to imagine but if so won't be surprised, I'm rewatching them all to go in fresh since it's been years just finished the first one but yeah I've heard this one is really bad but then so is Dark Fate, I mean the first 5 minutes of that movie pretty much made the first 2 Terminators(in Dark Fate's timeline at least) irrelevant. lol
Same here! I think Reloaded had an amazing plot and the best action scenes, and I never felt like it was dragging. The pacing was perfect and you learn about the other characters inside the matrix better. It’s definitively not better than the first but it was not dissapointing at all.
My favorite Matrix movie is Reloaded. It had the best CGI elements and action scenes, the best and most intriguing characters, the best story to push it forward of the three original movies, and it has the best plot surprises. I thought that the first Matrix movie was decent (but nowhere as good as nostalgic reviewers want to claim; the first movie became popular primarily because of its cutting-edge CGI effects in the year it was released--i.e. "bullet time"--but the story was only decent). I hated the third movie, primarily because it didn't make sense. Most people who claim that the first Matrix is the best aren't really evaluating it and comparing it to the second . . . it's just a hasty, poorly-thought out answer. The only real issue I had with Reloaded was the ending: something about it didn't sit well with me. Everything else about it was near perfection.
Watching The Matrix back in the day changed my brain. I loved that movie and it's still my #1. This movie makes me feel sad. Even more sad that everyone involved thought it was a good idea to release it.
I love you bro. Anytime I feel a way about a movie and people disagree with me , I just know I can count on you to be on the same page I swear. Thank you sir.
I imagine the budget for this one wasn’t as high as the last two sequels which is why the fights weren’t quite as loony and less fighting overall and it felt like there wasn’t nearly as much use of CGI in this one.
Problem is they could have at least use better framing & shots...The CGi & the Green Screen could have been better too...its just overall woke & slow movie...They could have done more with less...But hey its the way hollywood works now...destroying great franchises in name of wokeness.
Honestly, a series would have been a great way to go. Something like Black Mirror, focusing on different stories of the Matrix universe, with several trusted directors coming in to work on episodes. I'd absolutely watch something like that. I thought the Animatrix was far better than the sequals and I'd love to see something similar to that.
The first one was great, a classic. 2nd one was okay, but it just seemed more about arcadey fight scenes not so much story, I couldn't even finish the 3rd one because it was so boring
The art of knowing when to stop... Honestly think it should have ended with the 1st, OR that the trilogy should have ended with Neo's 1st film ending, not the existential Christ crap. Either or, directors / writers were on a severe downward slope after the 1st, so why after a 66% failure rate was this nostalgia fueled crap going to buck the trend?
Apparently it's the most expensive Matrix movie to date, which is mind blowing considering how cheap it looks and that they built a small stretch of freeway for the second movie.
Yes I did, but the entire scene was bizarre and unintentionally hilarious... plus he was in a movie I watched once over 15 years ago, not exactly a standout from the franchise.
No studio is going to give the Wachowskis the artistic license and tens of millions to make an original movie after their last 3 movies were box office bombs. For Lana to write this from the perspective of being a victim is absurdly misleading.
The only thing I got from this movie, is more appreciation of Matrix revolutions. It felt like watching The Predator 2018 and appreciating Predators with Adrien Brody
One of the worst things about this movie is how Neo doesn’t fight at all… he literally just puts his hands up and pushes the bad things away. Its COMPLETELYYYYYYYY over used and ridiculous.
Just saw it at the cinema. It was ok but something just felt missing and it let me down. I was expecting Neo, Trinity, Morpheus, and some agents battling agents and some cool new innovative action moments and more philosophical mind blowingness, but got none. No Laurence Fishburne, no Hugo Weaving, and the cringy dialogue at the videogame office. The fact that The Matrix 1, 2, and 3 was a videogame all along and everyone was self-aware of it and breaking the 4th wall was a big disappointment and it ruined everything for me. The action also felt weak, because the actors felt like they were pretending to hit each other but weren't. In the first movie, you could feel that they were hitting each other for real. There is also no talk of what happens to "Agent Smith" after they kick the sht out of the therapist. But I did enjoy some small parts like the robots healing Neo and Trinity and putting them back in the Matrix. I enjoyed when the robot in the strawberry lab said "Can't wait for blueberries". I also enjoyed seeing "Agent Smith" fighting the therapist. It was an okay movie, just disappointing. 5/10
I’m watching this movie right now… this movie is horrible. I generally like to pretend only the 1st movie exists, but this movie is Nothing like the original and it’s not even remotely close to the sequels. So far this movie is hard to watch… and it’s getting worse.
Watched it. After the first few scenes it just set the tone for the rest of the film. Utter trash. Kinda felt like a bunch of people got together, hired a Keanu Reeves lookalike and made a big budget straight to Netflix Matrix Parody. They actually destroyed the Neo character in this film and turned him into a quivering little simp with all his powers gone as well.
I honestly don't know how anyone could have thought this movie could be good. I didn't even have a desire to watch it, and I still haven't. Probably won't either.
Waited, anticipated, marked my calendar......and this is what I get? It is as having a reservation scheduled, hired a ride to drive you to the restaurant....menu is 86 and you get served a used, cold greasy bag of mickey d's left overs. Ever eaten cold left over fries, two days old? Better than the direction of the film.
There are wars taking place behind the scenes that most of the population know nothing about. This movie is reactionary. It's a response to word from the man upon whose work the brothers built their reputations. The unknown individual's work was exploited by these two more than once, each time with diminished returns. Most of the so called fourth wall stuff is nothing more than attempts at justification. It's alleviation of guilt, and then there are open insults and arrogance. Of course you might not realize these things yet. With a bit of digging you could have a rudimentary understanding of what it's all about
I'm so fucking tired of seeing people saying The Matrix Resurrections is absolutely terrible, garbage, etc, etc. People saying such things because they ALREADY have their own Matrix Resurrections Scenario, what WOULD happen, what's GONNA happen, what ENDING should, could, and would be! People are ALWAYS thinking of the OLD Matrix back then, especially the first one when Neo, dodged the bullet! When he became the one. No one ever wonder how could he be still alive after the 3rd matrix, cause we all know he died! At least they explained in the 4th one. If you PEOPLE think The Matrix Resurrections is absolutely terrible, garbage, and so on, go and make your own Matrix. The ending in the 4th Matrix is talking about CATRIX, MAYBE you people can make it so others will watch it and decide whether it is SHIT and GARBAGE! Not that I think you have the BALLS to make such movie(s) and storm in the WB studio and give your movie project to them! I on the other LOVE ALL the Matrix Movies. And I definitely appreciate what they have accomplished and all the effort, time blood, and sweat from the first Matrix till the 4th Matrix. Always remember. You will NEVER please EVERYONE!
I equally love the original trilogy and watch them almost once a year. This 4th one has so many great potential ideas but half developed and ultimately has the problems of modern lazy Hollywood writing. The last 10 minutes of the movie just reeks of politics.
The first Matrix has become like the Halloween franchise the first movie perfection… and then Hollywood realizes they can make money… I’m surprised it took them this long to do The Matrix 4…. Maybe in 2029 we will get The Matrix M30 directed by Rob Zombie
Is Hollywood doing ok? I have not seen 1 good movie since the pandemic started. It's like they are cutting corners with everything. Cheaper writers, cheaper effects, cheaper everything.
Pointless film. The only bit that could"ve been interesting was the mention of a civil war with machines on machines . If only they had done something with it. Terrible film. I can"t see how even the biggest matrix optimist could like this film
I might be in the minority but i greatly enjoyed the trilogy. Iconic fight scenes; the subway, the car chases, 100 smiths vs neo, the raining final fight in revolutions. 💯 Resurrections wasn’t it chief they definitely failed that one
This movie sucked so bad. Apparently the wachowskis didn’t wanna do it. And Warner was going forward with or without them. Maybe Lana bit the bullet and did a shitty movie just to have control. Keanu was flat out bad in this one. What a terrible movie.
The Matrix just Highlander and Jaws should've been one and done. Resurrection is by far the worse in the franchise, it was pretentious, boring, lazy and pointless by the end.
Because both Neo and Trinity died at the end of the trilogy, Resurrections needed to open showing more of their resurrection by the machines. Similarly, a more fleshed-out depiction of the 'Machine civil war' that happened between Revolutions and Resurrections would have added the much-needed context that the current film was so obviously lacking. Not having more of the original actors or its original darker cyberpunk feel to instead replace it with a campy atmosphere throughout, led to that feeling we're all having over what was a landmark example of film making turned corporate mess, the very thing the original film stood against. Heard there's a sequel. Maybe we’ll eventually discover the entire Resurrections film was just another one of Neo’s dreams from safe within his pod. That would explain the disjointed, dream-like campy theme to Resurrections and allow the next film to be the real Matrix outside of the modal that was created not by Neo, but the (original) Architect. The line in Resurrections where Neo says "I've had dreams that weren't just dreams," as well as what the Analyst tells him about his current "reality" are strong clues. This would also mean Lana played with all our minds. It’s WE that were in the Matrix within a Matrix in Resurrections. We dreamt Neo's dream. By the next film, I fully expect Neo to wake up from that dream to again become the One he still is and is still becoming.
The movie was crap. Long ago I grew tired of slow motion martial arts and acrobatics, running up walls to pounce, bullets for everything (try a laser or a sonic blast or fire hydrant). There seemed an urgency in the earlier movies. In this one the big question is, will Neo get over his performance anxiety? Still, everyone falls/gets punched and pummeled without consequence. I thought anticipated appearances by Sense8 and other actors would allow a passing of the torch, or at least highlight them as important second and third level characters. Seems like they barely qualified for speaking roles.
It's simple, first, you take out the green tone of being in a computer version of reality, then you bring back Niobe but Morpheous he's dead. I mean you could have had the new Morpheous that Neo coded, and still got back to IO and saw the real older version of Morpheous. He could have made fun of the coded version made by Neo, that would have been an acceptable kind of humor. And then worst of all, the whole point of Neo is that he is stronger and faster than the computer. Back in the original Matrix, that was the point that Morpheous made to Neo, when he told him, "They (the agents, computer) can never be as fast and strong as you can be", but here comes NPH the new computer program and he wipes the floor with Neo, but of course, Trinity smacks him like a toddler in the last seen, showing that she is in control, unlike Neo that could not move, and was being touched in the face and played with by the new computer program. Maybe Neo should first have come in at the end and slapped NPH in the face a few times, just to set things right, but no he could not even save Trinity in the Matrix from the bullet shot by NPH. The point is the storyline is good, but don't sacrifice Neo's abilities, just share them with Trinity, I'm good with that, but don't Emasculate him and expect the movie to be good. Not nice.
If you watch closely, you'll find out there's absolutely no purpose of waking up Neo and Trinity from this upgraded matrix system, what they gonna do after that??
Did you notice that none of the main characters died making you not fear for anything in the movie. Remember the original matrix we lost main characters making you fear for neo, morpheous, trinity everytime agents got near . Making trinity fly was absolutely pathetic 😒
I feel like so many people missed the point of this movie. It is not a sequel to the Matrix but a message to WB. So many scenes represent WB talking to Lana Wachowski. How "Smith" says this project will be done with or without you. How the characters keep referencing how they haven't been given a choice. Similar to how Lana was essentially put between a rock and a hard place because she would either have to give her characters, "her children" to some soulless money making machine or be forced to make a sequel to a story that had already been properly concluded. A bunch of meetings most likely took place about what was expected to be in the matrix sequel, mirrored by the actual meetings in the movie; after Lana was essentially forced to be a part of it all. However if she was gonna be a part of it, then she was gonna make sure that above all else, her "children" were saved. All the things in the meeting that were discussed they were gonna make in the movie,so that her true message could go unnoticed by the old farts demanding a sequel. The ending of the film, having both Trinity and Neo being completely overpowered, essentially places any future writer in a hole that is impossible to escape. The ending scene where they talk about rainbows, is saying to WB, create a new world with new characters and lore, and stop trying to resurrect old franchises. It's a subtle and yet not so subtle message, that says yeah a lot of "sheeple" will be swayed by money to revive their old franchises and if becoming one with the soulless machine makes them happy more power to them, but Lana Wachowki ain't one of em.
This movie was a fever dream. I didn't think it was as bad as everyone else is saying it is. I liked the meta thing, or at least found it interesting. But after the first half I fell asleep.
I don't understand what the hell is wrong with Hollywood today. The CW DC Star Trek and now the matrix. All intelligent shows with brilliant writing now reduced to cheesey soap operas. Instead trying stimulate our brains Hollywood is trying stimulate our hearts. An emotional response is only achieved by a good story. But you can't have the emotions be the story.
whats so funny is that every negative review I’ve seen pretty much falls into exactly what the first act was criticizing: what the Matrix means to people. saying stuff like “this feels like a parody” is the most common thing I’ve seen in negative reviews and it only shows that Lana was spot on with that entire first act being dedicated to reflecting on The Matrix and its role in the world after 20 years
It's really hilarious to watch how these so called 'true matrix fans' flip out about Resurrections. In fact they were given the 'red pill' and could not handle it ....... what an irony :)
@@ronnieredneck9162 The Mandela Effect is the alternate memories theory. That parallel universes are colliding into each other. Or the Cern Super Collider has caused something to happen. That line was never said in the film.
