if you're worried about the rear arms, you could just run a brace from arm to arm. that wouldn't increase the weight very much and it would beef them up a bit. I love your designs. big fan!

Awesome, love your creations so far! So far, I only have a GEPRC Mark 4 to my name, but I already ordered an Explorer LR to do more serious Long Range (but still waiting for them to ship, maybe I'll switch to their new version without the Vista for faster shipping). This really seems be a great sweet spot between those two! Not sure yet if I'll find it necessary to get one once I have the 4" Micro, but we'll see. The red accents on the build look sexy AF though!

I'm in favour of performance and safety over convenience for the antenna, if we could only come up with a mount that one can rotate and lock in place vertically for flight and for packing up horizontally, to get best of both worlds :) Love your videos and want to get an Explorer LR and hopefully a similar 5" setup too some day.

cool design features, really interesting to see cruisers that can still do freestyle enough for most people, i think most people don't go above 80% throttle on a fast quad, its for emergencies only. i was trying to fly a mountain ridge and the thing that hurt me most was climb rate, on a 650g quad i needed 80% throttle to climb at a reasonable rate, not good, so this light design seems to be an great idea all round. ps. 50 quid says that wobble is a dodgy motor hehe

Love the progression you are taking this micro long range concept. Flying my Explorer LRs daily! Are you finding the Caddx/RUSH brand Vista antenna to be an improvement over Flywoo Atomic?

Those tbs crossfire antennas are centre fed dipoles, you could try replacing it with a 1/2 wave (end fed) vertical antenna (which would need a simple matching circuit to swr it in), does tbs make 1/2 wave vertical? If not they probably should...

Dude, this is awesome. I bought the explorer LR and I love the construction. But I wonder Dave, on the mini -- why not a breakaway bolt (a shear pin)?? You could have kept the front and rear arms as two seperate pieces, joined to the frame with the big red bolt as a pivot. Now all you need is a breakaway pin to keep the arms in place during normal operations. It is onll when the front or rear arms strike something taht the "pin" holding the arms in location is designed to fail -- now freeing the arms to pivot on the center bolt in whatever direction the crash energy wants them to go. I bet this would reduce arm breakage by A TON!!!!!!!!!!! no matter your design. Yes it only helps with crash force lateral horizontally to the ship --- but that is a great deal of the forces. The rest of the forces may not be sufficent to actually bend the arm up or dowards enough to break them, given they can freely pivot. I wonder if you could make the breakaway pin out of 3d printer filament itself. a 1.5mm or 3.0mm cylinder of filament held in place? If not, then I am positive a sufficent 3d printed "pin" can both hold itself in place, break exactly when you want it to, have adjustable strength to not break unnecessarily (if Pilots want to push the ship a bit more without having to repair this), AND be cheap as dirt for Flywoo or the end-user to produce/replace. WAY BETTER then breaking these thin arms. Thoughts?? Love the introduction of that circular bolt, so unique. I love your design style Dave_c --- I am going to be watching your progress and buying more of your ships

Imho, the front motor protection should be redesigned. The end of the arm should have a forward reaching point to protect the bells. The camera looks pretty well protected but the front motors will take a beating. Something similar to the Floss maybe?

I prefer the 6s setup too. I have the same motors on my 6s Gatehunter. I just wish Brotherhobby had skipped the t mount. Also my FPVcycle Fouride mixes m2 and m3 pretty damn well if you ask me and that thing is bulletproof at 4".

See you can buy from cnc madness in carbon fiber? This has 25x25 mounting or just 20x20? I want to build a 5" lightweight. I have your 4" What is the weight in all carbon fiber for the frame with hardware put together (no electronics just frame)?

Looking to build a long range setup for cruising up and down some mountains on backpacking trips. Would you recommend this build over your 4 inch build? Getting sub 250g AUW is preferable for me since I live in Canada, but is the increase in power and speed with the 5 inch build worth it for going up and down mountains?

Dave -- you mention that the rear arms are a bit long and therefore not quite as strong. Would you consider increasing the arm thickness to 5mm? Would that mess up any of the construction/assembly? I understand it would add a bit of weight, but if it significantly increased the overall strength, it might be worth it. Thoughts?

Looks great! I want one! My only suggestion would be to slightly rework the front motor positions to get the props completely out of the view (Using a Caddx Vista). I personally find having them in view incredibly distracting when just cruising around with slow quads like these.. Could possibly move the camera upwards slightly also? PS: Since Flywoo listens to you, could you please encourage them to design a 16x16 F7 AIO with all 6x UARTS available? (Possibly a 2 board stack for DJI + an optional third board with the OSD / VTX on it for analogue?) Would be perfect for these frames! Especially since there are currently zero 16x16's i'm aware of with more than 3 UARTS..

Ich finde dein Frame / Setup für den 5" echt mega ! wollte mir eigentlich auch den Flywoo kaufen, aber wurde wie viele hier nur vertröstet !...Meine Frage, wegen den "bike chain rings", kannst du die mal hier verlinken, wo man die am besten aus D bekommt. finde keine mit 4,5mm länge! Und gibt es eine Möglichkeit , eine DJI Airunit in den Frame zu packen, bzw anzupassen ?

why dont you try to use 6s lipo packs? Higher Voltage lower current demand at same wattage right? or due to the higher voltage the motors want to turn faster equals in higher current demand? Maybe im confusing something but im still learning.

I've got a couple unrelated questions, maybe someone here can spare the time to answer: First of all, which Li-Ion packs do you think are best for the 4" Micro/Explorer LR? While I'm waiting for it, I'm looking to buy a pack or two (I don't really feel comfortable soldering batteries myself). Do you think a lighter 3s or a heavier 4s Li-ion will give more flight time/be better overall? I've considered the ZOHD Lionpacks, 3500mah 3s or 4s, but they only have a 10A discharge rating. You would also would have to swap out the XT60 for an XT30 or use an adapter. @t Alternatively, I've looked at some custom built ones with like these below. They "only" have 3000mah but a higher discharge rating (these are the same VTC6 Sony cells that Dave uses) and you could order them with XT30 already installed. @t Any thoughts? 3s or 4s, 3000mah or 3500mah? Secondly, if I were to try Li-Ion on my GEPRC Mark 4, which ones would be most suitable? (I know Dave talked about all the reasons why it's not really a good fit, hence the MiniLongRange, but I have a Mark 4 lying around and feel tempted to try it.) Should I go 6s 18650, or even 21700 (400+grams)? Or maybe even 4s on a 6s build? Lastly, I'm thinking about changing my order of the Explorer LR to the version without the Vista. In that case, I'm wondering about the wiring. The SBUS wire should be completely useless if you're using Crossfire, right? So there's no need to wire it at all? Finally, on the new product page of the version without the Vista (flywoo.net/products/explorer-without-vista-set), I've noticed that they're using some sort of circular nuts on the arms that I've never seen before. Are those more durable or were they changed without reason? That's all that came to mind. Thanks!

@Dave_C FPV PLEASE HELP!! I have just updated my analogue Rekon5 to Betaflight 4.3 RC2. I now have warm motors front-right & rear-left (2 & 3?) after a short flight, slight shaking at mid to high throttle, and jello in my unstabilised HD footage. Any ideas what might be wrong? Do you have a BF 4.3 RC2 tune Preset for the Rekon5? Thanks.

Quick question- I love my Rekon 5 but regarding current draw. I set up the flight controller per the HGLRC manual with the "voltage meter " on the battery at 112 scale vs the 110 scale the quad came with. Anyway I'm pulling 30amps at about 40-45% throttle right now in a slight hover and some forward movement. Which seems off, since I'm using a 4S1P battery with a Max discharge of 30a continuous. Does anyone happen to know what the current calibration is for the amperage per the Betaflight OSD on the Rekon 5 ?

is it possible or okay to cut the Bottom Plate front part from 2mm to 1.5mm? because of cost reasons. Really like integrating other hobby hardware to fpv frame. And what type of CF you used? t300 or t700?

So I picked one of these up and it seemed to have the incorrect presets- I terms in the triple digits and P terms in the teens and for whatever reason it refused to arm air mode in the config. Reflashed to BF 4.2 and it things began working normally again. The tune has been elusive though and I seem plagued by mid throttle oscillations. Is there a dump of your presets and tune available somewhere?(6s 1800kv version).

I m from Germany and had some good Contacts to Motorsport , F1 and the Touring Cars DTM Carbon Manufactures. I get their a special Carbon prepreg Plate , i could reduce the thikness over 50% at my light weight frame ( old Designs like a QAV 220 ) , but no lose of stiffnes an , got better stiffnes in all direction. i could send you the company Contact and Material Specs for free , got some Test Sheet here but it`s not enough for a Frame ... ( Only a round Plate with 15cm diameter ) . Could you tell me whenn you sell some Frames ?

Hi My Explorer LR arrived and I love it. I bought the analog version and now want to install a caddx vista, I've got the GOKU f411 board diagram but have no spare uarts left after crossfire and GPS. I was hoping someone could help me sort this out. softserial is enabled and think the LED pad is for the IRC Tramp to the vtx. What pads should I use for the RX and TX on the Caddx and if you could help me with the CLI resource mappings Thanks in advance.
