The Mormon Theology Behind the Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow Trials

Most people think that Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow Daybell were fringe Mormons who had nothing to do with Mainstream Mormonism, but there are actually religious foundations for much of what they taught and believed. In this episode of Mormon True Crime we talk about the theologies that created Zombies and what Chad and Lori interpreted, which may have lead to the murders of Charles Vallow, Tylee Ryan, JJ Vallow, and Tammy Daybell.

My mom is Kay Vallow Woodcock. JJ vallow is my nephew. Charles Vallow my uncle. Yes, this means that Lori was my aunt for 15 years, but I’d say she forfeited her role as an aunt when she allegedly, along with her brother Alex, took my uncle Charles’s life on a July 11, 2019. I have been researching into Mormonism the last five years because I’m a never mo and when Tylee and Jj were missing, so many LDS members were commenting saying that Chad & Lori were NOT doing anything based in Mormonism and bc I didn’t know any better, I set out to learn where Chad & Lori’s beliefs “differed” from that of their church. I’m my opinion and based on my research I don’t think it does differ because I found all the things that you spoke of and learned for myself that the only thing that Chad & Lori changed per se is the term “Zombie”. That’s it. So I appreciate your input and explanation on this matter and really appreciate the fact that you are being fair in your explanation of this entire thing. I too have said that this is the “Super Bowl” of Mormon crimes. Lol, it sure feels like it now doesn’t it? I know that what Lori & Chad (allegedly For now) did is on them and I know the church didn’t murder my family but I do think that they need to find better ways to warn its members of the dangers that they have caused them by the doctrines that they have disavowed and allegedly no longer practice in their church because this will only keep repeating if there is never a strong and clear message from the church to its members. Thank you for you time and efforts to help others like myself learn from this tragedy. You most definitely earned a subscription to your channel and a thumbs up. I will share this with my community @diffiCULTresearch #lovealwayswins

My heart goes out to you and your family throughout all of this. Your mom’s strength and devotion to seeing justice happen has been a powerful thing to witness from a distance. I absolutely have more insight on this but was working to keep the whole thing under 45 minutes, so I’d be happy to dive deeper into it with you if you’d like to connect. The fact that Ruby Franke, the Lafferties, the Haights and about 70 some odd other cases have happened shows that this tragedy isn’t nearly as rare as everyone is acting like. There is something seriously wrong here and it needs light shed on it! I’m so sorry for your loss and the drawn out pain this must have created for you and yours!

Joseph Smith and Brigham Young didn't do anything different than these crazies are doing. I grew up in these doctrines. I grew up being told Joseph Smith:s visions were right. I grew up believing his polygamy was right and the threats to Emma, his wife, that God would destroy her if she didn't obey polygamy. Brigham Young led people knowingly to their death, trying to get people he could be tyrant over. He has a gold inlayed home in St George. Joseph Smith declared himself king of the earth. Brigham Young declared 'death on the spot' to those who broke certain of God's laws. Brigham told followers to grind up glass into flour they traded to natives. Is this really much different?? The Ruby Franke's, Jodi Hildebrandts, Chad Daybells etc have their roots in the Mormon church.

@@salemthorup9536and yet done by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young aplenty. We grew up talking freely about Brigham's 64 wives and visiting the little bedrooms they were given to live in, in the Lion House. The murders were well known. Joseph Smith threatening destruction on his own wife. I think the Daybell apple doesn't fall that far from the Joseph tree.

I believe Chad and Lori could have been stopped had the church come forward and stopped them they knew what shot was doing they knew what them preppers on avow and preparing the people they knew exactly what they were doing and they could have said no but they didn't You want to know why because then they would have to go against everything that their church stands for because it's all batshit crazy and they can't say these people are bat shit crazy when they know it's the same shit they believe in so yes Mormons should definitely realize that everybody is to blame for this in the church. At least the people in power they very easily could have told Chad and preparing the people and everyone else to knock at the fuck off but they didn't because they can't they just want your money give us our tithing......

Julie Rowe was a big part of legitimizing Chad's use of the "Church of the Firstborn" title. My in-laws were BIG Julie Rowe fans. They paid Julie to do "readings" over the phone for all their kids. I was pronounced "light" at the time :) but now that I've left the church, no doubt I'd be "dark"...crazy thing is, I haven't changed. LDS have a lot of conversations with family members who have past, there have always been forms of spiritualism . When a family member leaves the church, it was considered it better they be dead based on the apostate theory from the D and C 84. Seeing forms of “auras “ in people or seeing and reading their energy and spiritualizing isn’t a stretch from the Mormon perspective. A whole lot of Mormons are involved in astrology and other perspectives. Calling them a zombie is a “walking dead”. Yes, it is crazy, unstable and really sick… but I have certainly seen these fringe things.

I’ve been saying all along that it’s fringe Mormonism that brought about these crimes (Daybell, Franke, Ballard) but it really is basic Mormon doctrine, isn’t it? Throw in that book Visions of Glory (another commonality in all of these cases) which is sold in Deseret Book stores and you get fodder for deeply flawed ideas and horrendous acts.

Thanks for the breakdown on where Chad got his theology from mormon teachings! When I first heard about reincarnation, I thought that was the most ludicrous thing to believe for someone who came from Mormonism. I was shocked to find out that this could be traced back to Joseph Smith. As I investigated this topic, he learned about it from his studies in the Kabbalah, where there are beliefs that a person would go through multiple probations until he had learned all the things that he needed to learn to move up to the next plane. This is also where he got the idea of a heavenly mother and the council of Gods in Genesis that he talked about in the King Follett discourse you also referenced. If Joseph had lived a little bit longer and was able to finish incorporating these ideas into official mormon theology, the church's beliefs could look very different than they do today.

Appreciate the energy that went into this! A couple of corrections though. Alex was jailed in '07, Joe died '18 so the theory you mention doesn't fit the timeline. Joe never legally adopted Colby even though somehow Colby assumed the Ryan surname. The FOIA docs about the divorce and custody battles between Joe & Lori show Joe paid no child support nor had any visitation with Colby - just with Tylee. The police did coach Lori how to avoid being brought for the order psych evaluation. She went to the facility on her own and had it done, telling Melanie Gibb that it was a piece of cake.

I understand everything you said! I may think it was bat poop crazy, but I understood. What I do not understand is energy healing, body code stuff. Julie Rowe stuff. I know you filmed this before the Chad Daybell trial started but in an email to Mark Daybell who was away on his mission, Chad and Tammy talk about the woo woo scanning Mark for stuff and casting it out. Based on the pre 1990 temple oaths, both spoken and hand gestures, Tylee, who was DARK in soul, should have had her throat slit, her tongue torn out at the roots, her heart ripped out, been disemboweled and the organs placed in the bucket since they could not scatter them to be fed to the birds of the air and beasts of the field. Chad and Alex did not torture and murder Tylee, they just fulfilled the dictates of scripture in their extremist minds. Lori said there was no murders of the kids. It is not murder to follow the scriptures. I am hoping for life in prison for Chad too. Not death where he can go and lounge in the celestial and chat with Jesus/God/Adam the get his own planet and harem. Nope.
@yorgasor
@yorgasor 2 месяца назад
Those penalties were specifically for revealing the tokens and signs given in the temple. Tylee and JJ never went through, nor was their "sin" revealing these particular secrets. The Brigham Young era "Blood Atonement" teachings were having throats slit and their blood spilled upon the ground as an offering for sins that were too severe for Jesus' atonement. But that wasn't technically at issue here either. These come more from ideas from the Visions of Glory book which described evil spirits trying to climb into a body, and once they were firmly situated, the original spirit died and they became 'zombies.' This left the body alive, and their spirit trapped in limbo, requiring their bodies to be put to death in order to free the spirits. This built on ideas promoted in Visions of Glory. Beth and I will be posting a new podcast where we explain the origins of the Daybell theology shortly!

There are so many concepts to address. One thing that has bothered me tremendously is the castings. Let's just take Charles vallow for an example okay they say that a dark Spirit entered his body and he became a zombie and the only way to get rid of this zombie is to kill Charles vallow which makes no sense at all. Why aren't they doing what is logical which would be an old fashioned exorcism if a spirit is inhabiting somebody then you get rid of the spirit the dark evil spirit you do not kill the host. The women that would sit around and do these castings., we're very confused because none of that really made sense. The other thing that bothers me is that in Lori's trial and in Chad's trial they make sure to start the trial with this case is about MONEY SEX AND POWER. however I don't believe that. I believe it was about they're sick twisted evil religious beliefs. To me that was the foundation of everything.. it wasn't about money because Charles gave his million dollars to Kay. So even though they did take Tyler's money and JJ's money and Tammy's money they were not wealthy in any way. But it definitely was about them creating their own church and they both being leaders of the Church of the first born. I worked for a company where everybody in a leadership position was a devout Mormon and I learned so much because the guy that owned the company really liked me and told me a lot of things about the Mormon religion and what I realized when this case started that the average LDS Mormon person knows so little of what ACTUALLY IS GOING ON .I HOPE WITH EVERY FIBER THAT CHAD DOES NOT GET THE DEATH PENALTY THAT IS TOO EASY HE'LL BE THERE FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS THEY GET A LOT OF PERKS AND THE MAIN THING IS THERE'S NO OTHER INMATES TO BOTHER THEM SHANK THEM TURN THEM INTO THEIR LITTLE YOU KNOW WHAT SEX SLAVE. LETS give him the worst punishment. Put him in General population for life. He will be so hated by other inmates, he will think he is in Hell. I see that this is a new Channel for you. What Is your ideas and with so many Channels on this case how is your approach different.? Thanks for a great video

It is interesting that they don't do exorcisms. I think their ideas about possession come more from the book Visions of Glory, which a lot of LDS preppers take for their second coming Bible. This has spirits trying to get into bodies and convince them to do evil things (like watch porn), and eventually they reach a point where they are able to get into a body and stay in. At that point, the author said death was the only solution. "Wen we were confronted by people who were fully ripe in iniquity, and who would never repent, then we were free to deliver them from mortality. Their death would then be a blessing to them because they could no longer add additional iniquity to their divine ledger... When we did this, it was not a bloodbath and rarely a consumption by fire. They just fell to the ground and slipped into the eternities. When this happened, we felt happy for them to be freed from the torment of their own delusions. With God they would eventually see clearly once again and could choose to cease heaping condemnation upon their souls." -- Visions of Glory 199-200

So I have a TikTok with 22k followers, I’m just coming over here for long form content. My approach is to talk about tons of these cases and discuss whether Mormonism had any impact on the case or not. This one there is. The Gilbert Goons? Not so much. But it’s worth discussing whether someone HAPPENS to be Mormon or if Mormonism was a weapon of choice for the perpetrators.

There seems to be a lot of parallels between Islam and Mormonism, even mhmd allegedly said that on Judgment Day al lah will tap those on the right shoulder whose faces are white to enter Jannah, and those who he taps on the left shoulder , those faces will turn black and enter hell. Maybe it was the same angel that inspired both. """Abu Darda' reported God's messenger as saying, "God created Adam when He created him and struck his right shoulder and brought forth his offspring white like small ants. And he struck his left shoulder and brought forth his offspring BLACK as though they were charcoal. Back when I was a practicing Catholic I came across an article in one of our publications that explained that the Mormon belief and practices of Baptism are so different from those of mainstream Christianity that if a Catholic seeks to annul a marriage to a Mormon the Mormon does not count as a baptized person which is a major qualifier to call a marriage invalid. For research reasons I've looked at the same questions pertaining to marriages in the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church does not allow marriages between Orthodox persons and Jews, Muslims--or Mormons.

Haha, the only reason there's debate about whether apostates go to Outer Darkness or the Telestial Kingdom is because church leaders weren't consistent on this teaching. You can find quotes from apostles, prophets and scriptures to back up either position. But D&C 84 indicates that if you got the Melchizedek Priesthood and then turn away, you're in outer darkness: 39 And this is according to the oath and covenant which belongeth to the priesthood. 40 Therefore, all those who receive the priesthood, receive this oath and covenant of my Father, which he cannot break, neither can it be moved. 41 But whoso breaketh this covenant after he hath received it, and altogether turneth therefrom, shall not have forgiveness of sins in this world nor in the world to come. D&C 76 says this about those going to Outer Darkness: 32 They are they who are the sons of perdition, of whom I say that it had been better for them never to have been born; 33 For they are vessels of wrath, doomed to suffer the wrath of God, with the devil and his angels in eternity; 34 Concerning whom I have said there is no forgiveness in this world nor in the world to come

@@MormonTrueCrime "Man is the transgressor. Eve was the first to partake of the forbidden fruit, and the man was disposed to follow her, and did follow her; consequently, sin is in the world, and when redemption comes it must come by man. When we speak of law and the transgression of law, we refer to the law of God to man. I doubt whether it can be found, from the revelations that are given and the facts as they exist, that there is a female in all the regions of hell." -- Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:222 "There was some informal talk regarding the question as to whether there are, or would be, any women in hell. It was conceded that some women by their acts-namely, abortion, child murder after birth, and the poisoning of their husbands, and other criminal acts-merited a place in the lower regions. President Smith expressed the view that women who commit such crimes as those mentioned would receive punishment to the uttermost farthing, but that there would be no daughters of perdition. This, he said, was his view in regard to the matter, which also seemed to meet the minds of the brethren." -- Joseph F Smith, , A Ministry of Meetings: The Apostolic Diaries of Rudgar Clawson, 560 (entry for 26 March 1903) "I think I am safe in saying that no man can become a Son of Perdition until he has known the light. Those who have never received the light are not to become Sons of Perdition. They will be punished if they rebel against God They will have to pay the price of their sinning, but it is only those who have the light through the priesthood and through the power of God and through their membership in the Church who will be banished forever from his influence into outer darkness to dwell with the devil and his angels. That is a punishment that will not come to those who have never known the truth. Bad as they may suffer, and awful as their punishment may be, they are not among that group which is to suffer the eternal death and banishment from all influence concerning the power of God". -- Joseph Fielding Smith, Conference Report (October 1958), 21 But then other church leaders also said women can become daughters of perdition. So they can't keep that part of the doctrine straight either. "[God] has other sons and daughters who do not even attain unto the telestial kingdom. They are sons of perdition out with the devil and his angels, and though the Father has grieved over them, he still has not the power to rescue and save them because He gave them free agency, and they used that in such a manner that they have shut themselves out from His presence. But He is justified. He has performed His full duty by them." -- Melvin J. Ballard, Sermons and Missionary Services of Melvin J. Ballard (Salt Lake City, Deseret Book Co., 1949), 255-257 Even Joseph F Smith contradicted his earlier statement to Elder Clawson, and said women can be daughters of perdition: ""The devil knows the Father much better than we. Lucifer, the son of the morning, knows Jesus Christ, the Son of God, much better than we, but in him it is not and will not redound to eternal life; for knowing, he yet rebels; knowing he yet is disobedient; he will not receive the truth; he will not abide in the truth; hence he is Perdition, and there is no salvation for him. The same doctrine applies to me and to you and to all the sons and daughters of God who have judgment and knowledge and are able to reason between cause and effect, and determine the right from the wrong and the good from the evil and who are capable of seeing the light and distinguishing it from the darkness." -- Conference Report (April 1916), 3

There are many Christian denominations (LDS is not one.) The first century church was called "the people of the way." The first believers were Jewish and soon ousted from synagogue, although Jesus had been teaching directly from the scriptures. His life and death fufilled every prophecy of the Messiah's first coming.. He did not and WOULD NOT alter the word of God known now as the Old Testament. God was clear in stating, "I am the Lord, I change not." The way in question is the way of salvation, righteousness, holiness and the glory called "the good part." This is the same growth in faith experienced by Abraham and every member of the elect. The way is literally mapped out in the tabernacle design given to Moses by God on Mt. Sinai. In Christ we have the benefit of his having attained to all these things. When one truly seeks, it is possible to receive each gift through faith. Faith itself is a gift. Faith in the fact that Jesus attained these things for us stands alone. If you were to link some other requirement like tithing or church membership, it is not faith. Sorry, but you are still standing outside in darkness. We are all called, "Seek my face." Jesus is the physical manifestation of God. Many are called, but few take the full journey. Abraham, Moses, David, all the prophets and so many more did take the full journey. The word of God is "inspired." This means the writer heard the breath of God speak and wrote it down. This is not some thought of your own, it is the audible voice. A vision takes the viewer to the scene of the vision. During the length of a vision, no time passes in our material world. A daydream is not a vision. A new believer does not experience these gifts. Mormons may begin seeking faith, but faith is quickly stolen. Much of Mormonism is based on the heinous lies which work so well as a marketing plan. Jesus was very adamant that there is no marriage in heaven. Ancestor worship is idolatry. It is appointed to every man once to die. No re-dos. Your origin is in the life passed on to you through the human parents who begat you. There are no spirit babies waiting to be born. The 144,000 are all virgin, israelite, and male. Women who take the journey have the ability to become "sons." Here is where Chad and many like him have grossly misinterpreted scripture, and have fallen to their own doom. The second anointing is a profound lie that teaches a different way of becoming sons of God. Mormons spend their entire life climbing a ladder to exultation. The worst are those like Chad who play a game like the Emporers New Clothes. Chad may claim to see Jesus and ask, "Dont you see him?" Soon, he gathers a few people who also want to be gods. I should say, here, that god is a generic term: it is NOT God's name. Ideally there would be plenty of believers who had attained to the fulness of faith. These would have experienced Christ being fully formed in themselves before stepping back into the role of servant. These are the council of believers God can refer to as gods in that they have become members of the elohim. They are ideal as members of a country's supreme court or presidential cabinet. I believe there are plenty of Mormons out there who just need to be delivered from the indoctrination they've received. I wish they would come together and accept the facts that are the foundation of Joseph Smith's church. If the fellowship and service of Mormon society ever merged with the faith taught by Jesus, we could fix the world's woes.
