Lex, I have been playing for over twenty years. This down swing for you is how the majority of my sessions go. I have watched you for years, along with other vloggers, and it has always astonished me how well you guys run at times. I have always felt like all the bad beats and unlucky card run outs that I have taken were just normal. Then, I here you say that this is the worst you have seen in the 5 years you have been playing. I do not like seeing you go through this down swing, but inside im thinking its about time that you experience just a fraction of what I think lots of us deal with on a regular basis. Take care brother.
I feel your pain, i play for a living too for over a decade you have to just book a win to get your confidence back even if it’s a small win and start the positive energy again otherwise you get comfortable losing and expecting the worse out of sessions or situations instead of thinking how much can I win from my opponent in this hand u think how much am I potentially gonna lose in this hand or session
I was on the worst "downswing" in my life when I was dealt pocket 10's in a three bet pot. Three way action with raise after raise. The river came quad 10's and I tripled up against two full houses. I did something I never done.......I hit and run. Only time in my life I ran after one hand. I just something to break the streak and have been on a tear ever since.
So Lex, you say immediately after the first hand that these players are playing and calling too loose and that you need to adjust to Texas poker. Then you spend the rest of the video trying to bluff them out of their shoes and trying to make them fold top pair or an over pair. WTF! I was pretty sure that when you said you had to adjust you meant that you need to bet for value more and bluff less. You did the exact opposite in most hands that you showed.
Don't put it on yourself Lex. All your friends here have had many bad beats and have gone tilt. Hang in there. We are looking forward to the "RUN GOOD" video
I live in Fort Worth and have been to TCH Social numerous times, lady’s and gents let me tell you….. don’t try to bluff those players, they will not fold! I’m not trying to be rude but those players don’t consider “ranges” and odds, etc. Best to wait for a real hand. Your greatest opponent is you.
We all go through down swings that last months. Welcome back to Texas Lex. Where variance is higher than elsewhere. Higher highs, and lower lows. And aggression is the norm from most mid stakes and high stakes players.
Lost 8 of my last 10 all-ins. The biggest one as 89% favorite. Running the worst in big pots even though my equities are always higher in them. Impossible to talk to people about it. The misery of poker
Not as bad a downswing as Rampage. Your solid and you'll make it back and be fine. I don't see any stupid play in ya, its just variance. Keep that in mind.
This is ridiculous. You're playing cash games. Cash games are one long session. Taking an early win means nothing. If the table is good, you stay. If the table is tough, you move or leave. Those are the ONLY factors other than judging your own play based on tilt, fatigue, etc.
@@tuck8200 this is ridiculous. People arent EV robots. They have emotions and flaws. Getting a few wins under your belt while on a downswing definitely helps the mental game. And that's a good thing even if it cost you some ev. He can't hit and run, it's bad advice for him. But for your average player it's definitely beneficial. Phil Galfond recommended it in a video and I have done it a few times during downswing since.
The pocket 8’s hand that hits a set is typical of aggressive players that don’t fight back without some reasonable equity They never seem to pay off when a losing player shows aggression. Very typical in lower stakes games.
Lex I hope you know this is coming from a place of love and friendship. You need to move down in stakes for awhile. Crush 2/5 hell even 1/3 for 6 months or so and get your confidence back. Or grind $100-200 daily tournaments. That can help you gain some confidence and sone more tournament experience. How long can you stay on this downswing at current stakes? Both mentally and financially how long can you take this?
It’s hard looking at all of social media when everyone appears to be winning all of the time. It sometimes feels like I’m the only one getting cracked consistently. Giving but getting no action. It’s nice to see the other side for a change. Good luck out there!
Keep your head up brother loved the content very refreshing to see someone relatable just grinding it out at 2/5 and something you can’t find too much of, you seem like a solid player and I’m sure you’ll double up and a soda at HCL
I'm not sure if this is it but everyone who watches your stuff knows you play very aggressive and bluff often. That gets you paid when you have it but it seems lately your are bluffing more than you have it.
He doesn't get it...since his run good he forgot poker is gambling and that their are downs. He's got that pouty gambler face that says "I deserve to win"
You can attribute a downswing to bad luck.. but also if you’re not studying the game every day, and if you’re not trying to learn from your mistakes, then these downswings will happen more often. In poker, you can’t rest on your laurels. You must identify which mistakes you are making and correct them. (Why do I have a feeling that you’re not putting in enough time to make yourself a better player?)
Back to the basics Lex , start playing solid fundamental poker especially in Texas...you know those swings are going to be wild there . Best of luck going forward brother .
Conquer your ego and drop down in stakes. Get the confidence back cuz. U got a fleet of RU-vid supporters who don’t care if you go back down to 5/10 or 2/5.
they are both playing very far away from GTO and perhaps his opponents are studying. A lot of the hands that rampage and Lex play are not solver approved, so you're gonna downswing pretty hard when your luck turns.
Man Lex thanks for sharing, variance is so evil. Maybe sometimes you just need to vent. People think being a professional poker player is so easy, when you run good it is, but there are times when you do everything right and you still don't have the results to show for it. That's why donkeys like us still show up to play LOL. Good luck Lex
Lex I think you are playing some hands incorrectly. For example: on the flop of 2-3-6 rainbow when you have QQ, you should be check-jamming all-in to the Euro’s big bet.. he easily could have had hands like TT JJ AK or AQ suited…. I sure hope you’re studying the game every day and I hope you’re not resting on your laurels; because other players are getting better and/or they’re adjusting to the way you play.
Lex, great vlog and I like your honest conclusions after every vlog. As mentioned in a previous vlog, I think to let the downswing topic be so prominent is one reason that poker players don‘t play there A poker game. Of course, some bad beats are part of the game and luck as well. One comment at the beginning what I don‘t like that you mentioned after double up your stack was that you talked about „free“ money… it is not free money it is yours and the mindset you got something for free may force you to light calls/moves etc. Your stack is YOUR money and it is not for free! The secret is to not affect a downswing as well as an upswing to your game. I know difficult for all players. Play the poker math, play you A-game and then it will come back to you! Sometimes, a break could help. Go on vacation and re-set your mind. Maybe for a pro more difficult but exactly for those situations you should have a professional bankroll management! Hope that makes sense? See you at your next vlog ☘️😀
Damn brother I play there almost every day, must have missed you. Sorry it didn’t go so well, but glad you got to experience the nicest room in the area!
Great content keep it coming! And don't fret, dream spots to cooler rec players in big pots will eventually return rest assured. As you know 15-20k hand downstairs will and do occur on a regular basis so just plan accordingly no worries. A couple months of live play is nowhere near the volume to constitutes a swing yet so just keep playing them one street at a time like always and don't be so results oriented. Young full-time professional gamblers like yourself, Rampage, Airball, Mikki, and Mariano are exactly what this country needs more of. Or maybe not, just depends on your perspective I guess. I prefer a soft rec table myself
If you play poker or bet sports for a living....better get used to losing ALOT. Only a tiny percent win long term so its really not a "profession" for most people. GL down the road Lexie
Very sorry to see this happen! I know cause I’ve had two months of losses, myself, not your extent, but I know it affects you. I’m taking a month off. Hope yours turns around good luck.
Here's 2 ways to get out of the downswing. 1. Play 20 days straight wait for premiums. Get 1000 dollars ahead and hit and run 2. Do not play a hand for 90-120 minutes unless it's pocket 10s or above. Then after you see the bully the lag or the NIT ...and take mental notes of everyone's play... 22:44 Then play your style...unr goof bro!😊 Often we want to create content and want to hustle and get in our and start editing... So... My opinions that may help.. Get 20k win streak or 20 days... At 1k profit.. See how it goes from there😊 Also after the initial 90-120 minirtes pick one to three people you want to target and get it in with . Leave large stacks alone.. and the first 2 hours will give you table image/street cred
When I go on a downswing I start to play tighter and buy in for less $. Actually works to get my confidence back. And then I go back to my usual strategy. That being said, it seems to me you’re bluffing too much
I feel you. I've been winning online for almost 3 years starting from NL 2 grinding all the way up to NL200. And now i'm loosing for 6 straight months ! It really gets you. I've even lowered my stakes as low as NL 50 (even though my br is still is manageble for 200) , still loosing ! But it will change. You know it and I know it :)
You had a player overbet the flop...you have a different dynamic. Recognising table dynamics is probably the biggest opportunity for improvement. I don't think you played badly. I think only amping up agression here can help, but it's very risky. Sometimes they do always have it. Keep on rollin'.
You said you can't fold in Texas, but fold against KQ offsuit & then again right before the little break. Any comment? Your videos are excellant. You can be the next Norman Chad.
Lex, I've been watching you since day 1 and I'm a huge fan. I even met you a couple of times over the years. That being said, please, please don't go down the road that some other vloggers went down of referring their audience to play in those scummy, sketchy apps. I know it's tempting as the rake back can be huge, but it's simply not worth to sell out your loyal watchers like this. These apps are obviously money pits, it's impossible to win long term given the insane amount of rake they take. That's without going in to conspiracies that they're rigged for action and coolers which I personally believe. It's just bad for people overall to deposit and play on those apps. I feel that you're above selling out your audience and milking them like the other guys. Love your vlogs, and how you crush it!
10:05 if you think your opponent is very polarized with a bet then calling or folding is the right play, raising into a polarized range only folds out the bluffs and gets called by everything better. GL on TCH
Easy to spot your pattern. Bet bet fold. Opponents can see that they need to stay in then apply the heat and you crumble. Need to mix it up just a little
No way should you be raise/folding with your 10x, if you planned on folding to a 3 bet then you should never raise, also overpairs shouldn’t be 3 betting this board anyway when you’re so deep when you can have all the sets, you most likely got bluffed
Slow down and appreciate everything you have. Fold fold fold until you get in some great spots. Play big and you will still have a good hourly playing tight for awhile until you turn things around
Hey Lex, long time sub. Stick with it. U r just not getting the right cards. It will change. Just focus your mind on something else n then come back. Good luck bud.👍Oh yeah, a cocktail helps me sometimes.
I lose with Aces cuz im too scared of the board and dont know how to play it after the flop and fold. Then i 4 bet with J10 hoping on a prayer and lose again. Then dont reraise with QQ because its not J10. And lose that hand as well 🤣
Playing in the most aggressive games in the U.S., which would be Texas, optimal strategy is to play tighter than everyone else and bluff less. Pick your spots well and the money will come your way. Bet for value and don't try to run over players.
Lex I have the worst bad beat ever. I was playing 2/5 a couple weeks ago a had my quad J’S beat by a royal flush. The bad beat pot was a half a million dollars and the casino refused to pay us because they said I bought in over the table max. I am taking a break from poker
I guess you're right, although I'm not sure those hands are overbetting flop like that? If we give V those hands that's 12 combos we're ahead of, we're behind 12 AK, 6 AA, 3 KK, 1 KQs, 3 KJs. And it's not impossible V shows up with 66 or 54 suited, or some other light 3 bet It's hard for me to find many other bluffs, I guess 76 could play this way? Kinda shows the importance of 4 betting to narrow this range down
@@seanmcauliffe9125i think the guy had AK. Bets preflop strong, and I think if Lex raises villain shoves with AK and prolly calls with AA or KK. Then with AK he misses the flop but caches a K on turn and value bets. The fact villain hasn't played many hands and took time away from his movie may be the tell tale. I think it's a fold. But I play QQ different than most. Same with JJ. Lots of people in Texas flat with big hands especially when playing against vloggers; they like to set traps so they can brag that they beat a "professional" to their significant others or friends.
Hey Lex I haven’t dropped a comment in awhile but I have been watching your videos which I totally enjoy you need a mentor to go to during these tuff times it works that’s what I have not in poker but all around life events but a poker mentor would work in these situations to get your head right best of luck on the felt hope to meet you one day
I'm sure this was frustrating to play, but it might be as frustrating to watch. You said early on that you can't fold much in Texas, but almost all your losses came without showdown. Were they good folds? Not really. You were likely behind in many of those hands, but you really shouldn't have been in those positions to begin with. Ill-advised bluffs, weak calls, overplayed pairs. Especially after a downswing characterized by run bad, a session of bad play is disheartening. You are better than this performance, and you'll get back up. I'm rooting for you, and I hope you can see where this session went wrong.
