Chess can be cruel. As an adult, I got my online rating over 2100 and prepared for my first in-person tournament. In round 1, I lost to a 1200 rated kid because I blundered badly. In round 2, I lost to a 1000-rated player who played aggressively and found lots of tactics. In round 3, I got beat by a kid with 900 rating who played 17 moves of theory in the Sveshnikov, which I specifically prepared. That was years ago. I never played an in-person tournament again.

Hey, play again OTB, i was 1800 online and i risked to lose to a 1100 in my first torunament. But now i am almodt 2100 OTB
@Greyrabbit22

As a kid I played tournaments, won the vast majority, drew a few, lost a few. After a year I got my new rating (146 ECF) and strolled into the next tournament thinking "right we taught the novices how to play, now we'll teach these guys". The first year I was in the 0-110 bracket, the second year it was the 110-190 bracket. You can imagine how it went. Like you, it was pretty much my last OTB tournament.
@Myysterius
@Myysterius 2 месяца назад
@@Greyrabbit22 Sorry to hear it, so do you lost the tournament and leave chess for a long time ? Right? I don't know what exactly means brackets because i play in the FIDE and not the English Chess Federation, can you explain me, thanks
@Greyrabbit22
@Greyrabbit22 2 месяца назад
@@Myysterius I still play recreationally, but 0/6 was the end of my aspirations to be the next Kasparov. ECF was the rating system at that time. Converter says 110 ECF was equivalent to 1525 FIDE, 146 ECF (on the back of beating up on the novice section) was equivalent to 1795 FIDE.

when are the coaches going to teach they shd stop the clock and then offer the handshake to resign? too many in kids tournaments offer the handshake. the other one accepts thinking the one who offered is resigning, but they claim they offered a draw. Here good that the kid, asked and confirmed that it is a resignation.

Shes literally 8 and spent 4 hours on a game just to throw it all away in one move and crying is poor sportsmanship?? If this were an adult yes it would be but we must give kids time to learn. Crying shows how much this game means to her. If this has not happened to you I assume either you started as an adult, or were low elo as a kid. If those are not the case i applaud your maturity at 8 years old but I think you can reasonably say this behavior is expected of an 8 year old.

Ahmadli you should know the rule of simply,you are one piece ahead,even though your Bishop is like a big pawn,after she play C4 you should play Qa7 immediately Cxb5 Rxb5 if she play Qd3 to pin the rook Qd4 exchange the Q immediately you are still ahead no more Q in the board, I say this coz the b white b pawn is really a menace giving you a headache

Cry if you must, but don't hold this over yourself. You're already much greater chess player than I am and I'm probably 3x your age. Learn from this. I think a big lesson for everyone here is to stay lethal. Never relax, no matter how large the advantage. Finish them off and give them nothing to come back at you with. Converting is definitely a psychological killer if things go wrong. Win or learn. Keep playing. Man that was hard to watch. Poor girl. Makes me wanna hug my daughter.

Chess prepares these kids for life---in the real world, which is full of heartbreak, sorrow and suffering. The Buddha from India said so. It's the first noble truth. What causes our suffering? Attachment and desire. Attached to winning. Desire to be the best. She went from hero to zero in her mind in a less than a minute. From strutting to rutting. That's all ego. She will learn that chess is just a game. That's it. Like shooting marbles or throwing a basketball through a peach basket. For someone to win, someone must lose. It will come and go.
