In this video, we’re going to be exploring the most heartbreaking quest in Mass Effect 1. It’s called Citadel: I Remember Me and it’s only available to characters with the Colonist background. We’ll explore all outcomes to this quest and the consequences for Mass Effect 2.

2:15 Full Conversation with Talitha
7:38 Give Her the Sedative
8:25 Force Her to Take Sedative
9:07 Talitha Pulls the Trigger
9:46 Shepard Signals the Sniper
10:40 My Favorite Outcome
11:34 Mass Effect 2 Consequences
During Mass Effect 1, there are three background specific missions that you can unlock based on your choice of pre-service history in character creation. Those backgrounds are Earthborn, Colonist and Spacer.
If you chose the Colonist background, then Shepard grew up in a human colony named Mindoir. This colony was attacked by Batarian slavers when the Commander was 16 years old and Shepard’s parents were killed in the raid.
About halfway through the game, when you exit the elevator to the docking bay, you’ll be contacted by an Alliance Officer named Lieutenant Girard. He informs you that a mentally unstable woman named Talitha has barricaded herself in the docking bay. She has a gun and is a danger to herself. The woman was captured by Batarian slavers during the raid on Mindoir when she was only six years old. She spent many years as a slave and was only rescued by the Alliance recently. Girard asks Shepard to speak with Talitha since the Commander also grew up on Mindoir and might have a better chance of getting through to her.
This starts the quest Citadel: I Remember Me - a mission only available to characters with the Colonist Pre-Service History background.

The renegade option for the dialog about shepards childhood is much better than the paragon one. Literally saying to her "You wish you could have fought? well my family DID fight. and we got our house dropped on us for the effort and everyone else was dead or gone by the time I woke up". It still doesnt feel right to jab her, but the paragon option just doesnt feel right. doesnt have the same weight from one survivor to another, as if Shepard had been walking around with that for years, and finally had someone that could understand the pain.

What I like about ME1 is how linked story elements are, this is my favourite mission in ME1 as it actually shows the horror of events in the series. Another nice thing is that Mindoir is a set event and the Spacer background is also affected by the attack when Shepard encounters Zabaleta who was an Alliance Marine who landed on Mindoir to save the colony but now suffers from PTSD from what he saw. Honestly it would be awesome if the Spacer mission was also available to a Colonist Shepard to see Zabaleta encounter someone his team managed to save.

@@hireien I actually have three Shepards as well that I enjoy. A Spacer/Sole Survivor, an Earthborn/War Hero and a Colonist/Ruthless. I love all three of them and have a tough time deciding which one's my canon Shep. But now I read that, I realise I can make all three of them canon, but only one of them makes it to the Normandy. Perhaps I can headcanon them as them all meeting and serving under Anderson at one point before Anderson selects one of them to be his protege, who ends up being the Shepard we know and love, but the other two can still have meaningful careers in the Alliance, perhaps having their own ships by ME3 which are part of the final assault against the Reapers.

I agree. I also like how these quests are presented in a not flashy way; for example, we don't hear loud, melancholic music during this quest or see quickly cut shots jumping around. We simply hear background noise so as to focus on the conversation's content and see two people talking together. The dialogue choices and themes became shallower over time and really diluted the series.

This reminds me of episode 2 of Life is Strange. You're on the roof with Kate Marsh and she wants to kill herself. Your time travel powers are suspended. Each time you talk to her you can step forward, but if you make too many wrong choices she will jump off the roof. My first time playing it I saw her in the bathroom at the beginning of the game and I said........oh shit that girl is going to kill herself. I was actually impressed that dontnod managed to capture the look of someone suicidal and in pain. It was a look I recognized all too well from when I was 18. Unfortunately After seeing that I panicked and couldn't focus on the clues I needed for the end of the episode. So when the time came I had no idea how to save her. Every play through since, I know exactly what clues I need to find to save her. I don't ever let her die anymore. It's the most personal experience I've ever had in a video game.

Honestly, when I first played mass effect, I thought I was dreaming about this side mission because none of my other friends had seen it. I thought it was so sad and I couldn't believe no one else had done it. Years and many playthroughs later, I realized why. Still a heartbreaking quest to this day.

As someone who has done this on a renegade and then a paragon colonist Shepard I gotta say this is my favorite out of the three background specific side quests my favorite service history unique dialogue is definitely the sole survivor's

This is one of the most powerful moments in ME, it's a pity it was only for colonist. I discovered this years later, in my first colonist run. It's heartbreaking and majestic. When she says "why aren't you like her? Broken" it's so emotional, but when she said "It hurt when she... when I remember me. But she wants to remember" i always cry 😢

I've struggled with suicidal thoughts before. Multiple times. I never picked the colonist background when I played Mass Effect in the past, and thus never saw this quest before. Seeing the option where you order the sniper shot on Talitha made me break down in tears. I haven't played legendary edition yet, but when I do, I'm picking the colonist background and make sure Talitha lives and gets the help she deserves.

This single mission during my first playthrough on Xbox 360 when ME1 was new (I was running a Colonist Sole Survivor Adept Paragon (talk about losing everyone around you all the time). Stumbled into this mission, and remember just crying and crying by the time it was over, I had to stop playing for a couple of hours, do something else to get myself back to myself before I could go on. I hadn't been affected by a game to this level before that and I was in my 20s at the time, it's still my favorite quest in ME to this day.

I really liked this quest because it gives a lot of background to my Renegade Femshep. She really also ended breaking at that moment too, after seeing everyone that she cared about dying at that moment, explaining why she has a lot of hatred for almost everyone. It was that way until she realises that after all that suffering she found a new group that she can call family again, The Normandy Crew. (I did use the Citadel Epilogue mod on purpose for that) And thats my headcanon for my last playthrough XD I really liked it, I ended up finishing the game on tears.

Any trilogy run I do, 9 out of 10 times I always tend to go with Colonist - War Hero
@prich0382
@prich0382 2 года назад
The ultimate paragon is Colonist War Hero, as a colonist, Shepard witnessed his friends, family and others dying around him while there was nothing he could do even if he wanted to, so he joined the alliances after to make sure this doesn't happen again on his way watch, then later he manages to do this very thing, save all he could and became a War Hero, you continue this as the ultimate paragon is the Mass Effect 1 to 3 games.

Really lucked out when I played for the first time Mass effect months ago and choosed the Colonist Background for my Shepard cause it combined well with the Ruthless start,the stories of the victims of the Batarian slavers shall always have a place on my heart... All the atrocities committed by humans on our collective history(and still sadly on our daily life) found a perfect match on the fictional world of Mass. Effect.

I just realized she probably doesn't get a good ending. Her doctors work for Cerberus, we probably don't hear from her in 3 because she was used as a test subject for their Reaper experiments. That's pretty sad.

It would be really interesting if they tied this more into the rest of the game. Maybe have her turn out to have some biotic powers so the school she goes to is grissom academy and the way asset points you get from that mission could also be a little bit greater. Idk.

Colonist, Sole Survivor. Shepard has experienced major loss twice. First her family, and the community she grew up in, and then her entire platoon is lost on Akuze. The men and women Shepard was tasked with leading all dead, she alone survives again as if some Space Age Ismael. It shapes her into the officer chosen for the Spectres.
