I am in the same boat and the thing is that a lot of Christianity is based off of a book written during a time where sexism homophobia transphobia and everything else under the sun were all having a party. That’s not a reflection of God, that’s just a reflection of the time period. Christians have the responsibility to make that differentiation between gods word and beliefs of the time period. While I’m against most religion for many reasons, this kind of stuff is what I have absolutely zero problem with. The problem imo is when you’re literally just scaring people into living life the way YOU think it should be. The whole “fear of god” thing is just absolutely disgusting and seems more harmful and anxiety-inducing than anything. Religion should give you a sense of security, not fear and “I must change everything about myself to live in gods image”

There’s so much diversity in Christians. I’ve met Christians who are completely accepting of the LGBT community and a church in my city that hosts a youth pride party every year (pizza, soda, pride flags, gay music artists singing PG music cuz it’s for ppl under 20, PG drag queens, photobooth , the whole shebang) and I’ve met Christians who believe all gay people are pedophiles and that they can beat the gay demons out of their children. Yeah I found out my Christian friend was actually in a cult where he had to swear to never own a phone, he got homeschooled in 7th grade and then came back because of sex ed and evolution lessons at school, I was the one who taught him that kissing doesn't make babies. I’m a Presbyterian Christian and when I was younger I was confused with the use of language (but also was just easily distracted by lots of things anyhow 😅)FYI this isn’t me trying to convert you back or anything aha but here’s an analogy I heard that I think might help. Imagine a picture of a baby in a crib and a man taking the baby’s small teddy bear away but behind his back is an even bigger bear.
