In this video . I show you how I install the "Pork Chops" on my E39 M5. They are actually pretty self explanatory, just be patient when fitting them. I would recommend doing a test fit first to see if you need to bend them slightly. It's possible they are slightly bent from being shipped so just match them up to see about fitment. The ones I used are a great fit. Info below!

You can always tell the “non-car people” in a parking lot cuz they just keep going until their front tires hit the parking blocks.

I had a buddy who was looking for them when then we discovered it was $300+ on an M5. But, if you look up the same part for the 540, it’s $30. Insane
@godswife
@godswife 4 года назад
the 540 part (for cars with M bumpers) is identical, no price difference. the only way to pay even less is to not have the rubber lip and buy ABS plastic pork chops, which suck

I put the same ones on my car and you can't beat them for the price. Honestly I'm always for going with OEM parts but for these I'd rather save the money.

The ones in the link say ABS plastic. Is that what we want or is ABS not what we want? Thanks, nice video.

I wonder if the part for a 2001 530i is any different? I don't think mine look exactly the same as this. Thought all E39s would be the same but not sure.
@ericseliz34
@ericseliz34 Год назад
Most likely the 540i, they share similar things with the suspension and chassis.

Do these pork chops come with the rubber lip on the side or did you remove them from the old ones? I bought some from rockauto and they do not have the rubber on the side so I have a gap.
@ShiftedPerspective
@ShiftedPerspective 4 года назад
If you are referring to the rubber lips along the vertical side of the fender where it meets the paint, then yes!

Buy the $100'ish(usd) ones. The $50'ish are laughably useless thin hand molds. Look for the brand Lerrium. And make sure it has the vertical rubber strip that runs up the shield fore of the wheel
@danielwatts9803
@danielwatts9803 4 года назад
just leave them off along with the larger center piece of plastic.. all they do is trap heat and hide anything that may potentially leak from you..
@ShiftedPerspective
@ShiftedPerspective 4 года назад
I think Id rather replace them, but thanks for the suggestion
@godswife

that's one stupid piece of advice right here. the lower engine cover and front fender liners have been engineered to be there for a reason, preventing excessive water ingress where it doesn't belong and aiding aerodynamics with better air flow below the car, let alone protection and more bumper rigidity... if you're too lazy to check for leaks when you do oil changes buy a different brand car

@@godswife Here we go, another MOPAR guy. My previous BMW ownership history reads as such: '95 318ti,' 95 M3 2/5, '99 M3 2/5, 01' 740 Sporty Shorty, 03' 530 Sport none of which are garage queens. Now back to the lesson at hand. Again, all that plastic does is hide leaks which of course most BMW's are notorious with AND traps heat which we ALL know is the main enemy of all BMW's 6/8 cylinder engones. All that aero nonsense mainly applies for the dedicated track rat. Needless to say, nobody here in the States will maintain unrestricted Autobahn speeds. That's what the plastic crap is made for not our turtle driving over here. So, put-putting around town with all that plastic stuff up front is pretty much useless. Feel free to respond
@godswife

i agree partially. i am german, faaaaar from a mopar guy. i agree on the autobahn point but protecting engine (oil pan), accessories, belts etc. from the elements is enough reason to keep shit tidy below. not seeing leaks is no excuse and "trapping" heat is no issue with regular maintenance, which is a must on old german cars. 90% of the cars i have ever owned were pre-2001 bimmers. brittle plastics parts are nothing new to me, it's changing them in time that prevents trouble. keeping to that routine none of my cars ever left me stranded. depending on where people live those "useless" parts can even prevent critters to get in a chew the crap out of your wiring... i keep to my point, can't see your post being smart advice. if you're concerned with heat upgrade the cooling system or drive without hood. lol
@willt718
@willt718 4 года назад
It also protects the horns and secondary air pump. I tried to repair the old pork chop with liquid nails polyurethane adhesive and steel mesh but it ultimately added too much weight imo. I'll order the aftermarket ones albeit consensus that it's not sturdy like oem...last time I'll try to hop a 1.5" curb
