@@VincentVincent_89 Smash Ultimate, a 60$ switch exclusive game, has more sales than Multiverses has players, even though Multiverses is F2P and multi-platform. (28 Million sales vs, 20 Million players.) And considering that warner bros is announcing the player count, it’s hard to say whether multiverses has 20 million active players, or if 20 million people played it just to try it out. Multiverses will never be a smash killer. Updates won’t change that.
@@samkeiser9776 no way there are more than 100k active players combined. The updates have been so dogshit. Made me and my friend leave the game until the shit excuse of "open beta" "early access" has run its course. Imagine not having ranked halfway through season 1
What makes Rivals of Aether so amazing isn’t the terrifyingly large number of mods that exist for it, but the fact that so many of them are designed to actually be played legitimately and not solely for shitposting.
@@RitzStarr the best that most people have done with Smash is just re-skins of current characters, like Shrek as Ganon. Smash would be epic with full character mods that are made to be balanced and fun to play
@@stephen303 project M….project plus….i forget what the ultimate one??? was called project nexus? and don’t forget smash remix it straight up adds new characters to 64…idk smash mods have come a long way. But its kinda stupid cause they throw the C&D out everytime we start making the game the way we want it to be. I honestly hate that about nintendo.
Making a character creator in rivals is easily the single best decision they've made bc now they genuinely have something smash bros doesn't: The ability to make basically any matchup happen no matter how random or crazy it may seem. The only limits are that of the player base and that is so smart and so cool.
I main Farmer Joe from Balan Wonderland. His vegetable-based projectiles are great at interrupting momentum of speedy lightweights like Slenderman and Tim McGraw, but he struggles against heavies with decent aerial maneuvering such as George Costanza from Seinfeld. And the best part of it is, you all have no idea if any of what I just said is true or not.
Man, now I have to go download Balan Wonderworld characters just because. Though let's be honest, the true hero of the game... BOXFOX Edit: Sads, there are none to get -_-
Same here! I've gotten SOME enjoyment out of almost all Smash clones, but Rivals is the Best imo (even over Multiverses, I actually don't really like Multi as much as I was hoping :( )
@Whoisthis 100% you just wanted fake internet points so you commented before watching the video, thus proving you're not a real fan... go put your generic ass comments on mrbeast videos or some
This is, unintentionally, one of the best advertisements for game I've ever seen! A game where you can be almost anything imaginable. Upcoming marketers should take notes on this.
Correct. I assume you mean taking notes on how not to market, considering using a copyrighted song and promoting an unlicensed game utilizing dozens of copyrighted characters from multiple multibillion dollar companies would get your company sued into oblivion.
"Upcoming marketers taking note" wouldn't mean shit. This is so heavily modded do you realize the sheer level of copyright hell this would be to get this many intellectual properties from Disney, countless video game and other multimedia companies? This is only possible because it's fan made and under the table, nothing the expansive will ever see the light of day.
@@Herodotus888 It would be worth noting for marketers that if your game has good mod support it can practically advertise itself with how hype people will get
Don't wanna be an ass, but it could have exploded in popularity way earlier if they didn't release the game with 8 characters, 4 DLC characters at a price of 1/4 of the full game each and provided any modding support
@@Galivent I know it is but it was funny to me that Bens is just Golden Ronalds by default either way Also I haven’t ever played rivals I’ve just watched lots of videos about it
I used to play this with my roommates. I'm a sweaty melee player so whenever I went accurate fox or falco they'd just change to Super Saiyan Ronald McDonald and whoop my ass. Good times
Super Saiyan Ronald McDonald ... not something I'd ever expect to see or read about. And Falco is a character? sounds like they thought of almost everything
Yeah if you're talking about base cast I 100% agree, I hate when people say this game is only about the workshop and everything else sucks and yet never touched base cast characters
I think during the Game Awards (or E3 or something like that), Dunkey raided him, but Jerma was planning to end the stream already. A very Jerma-like blunder.
I’m actually very surprised Dunkey managed to do the infamous Talking Ben 0-death, pro’s have been trying to hit that for YEARS. What’s more, he did it all with a blindfold and a USB steering wheel that wasn’t even plugged in, astounding
This game is a mastapiece. Seriously, getting George Costanza and jerma into smash is the best descision ever made. Steam workshop support is a must in games like these, Bravo.
The waterbottle character is OP. Not only is it nearly impossible to break down when discarded, but it pollutes our oceans on a nature threatening level.
My initial reaction: "Why does waluigi have a goddam lightsaber?" My current reaction: "Mama Coco getting roasted by a flamethrower, good gameplay... solid gameplay"
rivals is already a pretty good fighter with the main roster, but when you add the workshop and its surprising amount of high quality characters it's when the game truly becomes endless plus, i loved how they picked 4 mod characters and made them canon as a free dlc (after polishing and rebalancing them properly)
@@VictorZ290 As far as I've heard... no, there hasn't really? Not to say they haven't been kinda divisive cuz it's 4 whole new characters being introduced to a game that hasn't seen a huge roster shift in like 4 years lmao, but I haven't heard people saying they're all poorly designed or some shit as of now (definitely in the first week they came out tho tbf).
I love Rivals of Aether so much. Aside from the incredible workshop community, the base characters are just so well made. Their movesets are really synergetic, like a lot of their moves work with their other moves and that's incredibly cool to me. If you like platform fighters you owe it to yourself to play Rivals of Aether.
God, I'm so glad Dunkey covered this. I found out about this game with Alphard and since then I thought it needed more praise and attention, it's sooooo good
My only complaint with Rivals of Aether is that the actual base characters are amazingly designed, but the ability to have custom characters will always be in the spotlight.
Totally agree. Sylvanos and Ori main here, still absolutely love all the base-roster characters in the game and I’m glad people still don’t overlook them
something I really like the look of is that you can actually see what's happening, so many fighting games have so much happening it's really difficult to focus on it
Yeah rivals workshop is basically mugen for smash. Even Ronald McDonald, one of the most popular workshop characters is based off a mugen version of him
man i miss when rivals of aether was *_THE_* stuff thank you dunkey for reminding me of the good days when obama prism destroying jerma was something that happened every other tuesday
For anyone who hasn’t tried it: some of these steam workshop custom characters have such incredibly creative move kits, as opposed to them all just being memes and references. Well worth trying if you get the chance!
@@Godspamit One of the custom rulesets for matches is "Downloadable content: enabled" :) Can play them on-line with anyone so long as both players have the same characters downloaded. Me and my friends have a Steam Collection we keep adding new ones to, it's brilliant fun until someone brings out PepsiMan.
And not only that, but theres also tons and tons of originals! some of my personal favorites are as follows Mojibake/Tamat - Team Nerve (If you do not know who these are, you should. these signs are special.) Drosera/Ztatic - Spider Boi (Spider Boi in particular is an amazing creator you should really check out, great person. Plus Ztatic has great conservation mechanics and Drosera is just OOH.) Siren - FungiWizard (Bullet hell but you're the boss, its great.) N/A - Hyuponia (funny abyss axolotl, what else do you need?) Bugingi - Lognes (amazing animations, really good conept, great moveset.) Lynk - Sai (a very well known name for bosses and basically changing the game entirely, this is my favorite of his. may also add Ceae.) Bow N' Marrow - Pixel_Poke (Havent seen much of them. very cartoonish character, a little busted but they're fun.) Ms. Maribel -ViviVinya (G&W esque movement and attacks brought to another level, though technically not their OC but from an OC community.) Viselle - Reiga, Modeling-Clay (again, great design, plus potion mechanics) Carcossant - ReginaReforged, McDucky (a somewhat long haul character, but very much worth it.) And tons more, but I don't want to make this too long. Also I know it's not an OC but download Lovely Sweet Dream from ViviVinya.
Dark, Cosmic, and Golden Ronald are also in the game as well Along with Col. Sanders complete with the same custom opening animations when Sanders and Ronald face off. In short it’s literally smash Mugen.
Rivals Of Aether is genuinely one of the most beautiful things to ever touch gaming. To think that so many talented and even more untalented modders put in the most random, funny, overpowered, cool, and stupidest shit into one game just goes to show how powerful the internet is.
One of the best Dunkey videos, it starts off unassuming and you begin to think “oh is this like a new mugen” but slowly and surely the fighters get more ridiculous until eventually it’s absolute lunacy
