It really gets to me when a child is allowed to walk any distance alone. It doesn't matter how mature or responsible the child is it's the freaks out here that you have to think about. I have a long driveway that starts from the road, and my grandson is 14, and I still pick him up at the bottom. He doesn't care because it's a long walk anyway, so he's glad I do it. But nowadays I've noticed parents meeting the bus and later found out that your child won't be let off the bus if no one is there to meet them. I don't know what age you don't have to meet them anymore. I think it should continue on up into their teens because no one is safe anymore.

Kids can’t live in a bubble and in Utah you start taking the school bus to and from without your parents (because they’re likely at work) from kindergarten on, and often have to walk several blocks to and from your bus stop

Kids can’t live in a bubble huh? So walking with them at 10 is a bubble? Look what happens when they are alone. Guess these parents thought like you, look where it got them. The biggest part of being a parent is keeping them safe. My son will be 6 next month and I will not let him walk to school during any of these young ages. Period. My mother drove me and my brothers to school until we had licenses of our own, and we all survived adolescence. If this were my channel, I would absolutely have put a heart on this woman’s comment because I completely agree.

My God. These people cannot be rehabilitated. They only care about a twisted, harmful, unnatural lust more than the life of an innocent child or the lifeline of pain and loss of the parents. These men should never be freed.

As poetic as that sounds, it simply is not true. Jimmy's sister, Martha, received no such strength or comfort through some glorified Puritanistic work ethic. Instead, she endured years of pure psychological hell in the aftermath of her brother's murder. This was only further intensified by the heartbreaking loss of her mother a few years later. The Brice family endured years of unimaginable sorrow, pain, anger, and misery - as is completely understandable, albeit most unfortunate. We often delude ourselves into thinking that the families of child victims of murder/rape/abduction are able to somehow find the strength to carry on despite the pain. We want so very much to believe that we each possess some degree of control over our destiny and the way we choose to cope with such unimaginably brutal catastrophes. This family, quite tragically, were never able to regain any ounce of normalcy or peace in their lives, and now they have all since passed away.

What a heart wrenching story the terror that poor Jimmy endured. This really was hard to watch but I’m glad justice did prevail for Little Jimmy and his family. This creep was put to death finally. Feel bad Don lost his son a daughter and his wife before the sentence was carried out in 2014. Glad Don’s son is carrying on the Jimmy Ryce Center work and keeping it going . Thanks Somuch Ash for this I did get through to the end . As always with your kindness and attention to detail and sensitive nature to victim and the family you did an excellent job on this presentation. I appreciate you very much. You are a real dear!! @@unde.rtheashtree This is gut wrenching material Ash, but I do feel that its raised awareness on this matter. I don't think in recent years CSA. ,kidnap ,and murders ,have necessarily risen in number, but awareness of the problem has gone up! Saving countless children's innocence and lives. Thats huge ! I am 60 now , back in the day we ran the neighborhood , with all our friends, and that's the way most children were back then. So in our little neighborhood there lived an old man, who always invited us in for candy, well I got a bad feeling and I said no and wouldnt let my brother and sister in either. And one of the little gals with us said " come on!" " sometimes he gives us the good candy, and sometimes even money!" We said no, we would get in trouble, and walked away. Thankfully that day she came with us Later I was talking to her and I said , I got a bad feeling about going in there, he is scary! This little gal was from a very poor family, no running water, I don't think they always had electric either, So in other words they were very poor, and she is the one that suffered the most, teased at school all that. I remember her saying in confidence to me later, "well if I sit on his lap ,sometimes he gives me 10$ or even more sometimes!" At the time I was far to little to make sense of it, but it did bother me , and I told my mom. She sat her down and had a talk with her, and like a typical 8 year old kid and promptly forgot about it. Another time my little sister, about 5-7 years old was out front playing on the sidewalk, and a man came up in a car and said "Hi , we need some players on our team, we have a ball game up right up around the curve there" She ran inside to ask her mother, By the time she got out there, he was long gone,

I'd really like to know what states actively follow that ruling of not releasing child predators until their proved to be rehabilitated, because I'm a true crime junkie and it makes me insane how many times child predators are jailed and then released, jailed again and then released, gaining more and more victims along the way!

Hello. What a sad, sad story. If the perp. really had been abused as a child, why would he want to turn around and give poor little Jimmy that same pain. Somebody broke this man's spirit, and he never got over the pain and rage. But little Jimmy and his family did nothing wrong, so he shouldn't have punished them. I think the death sentence was correct. Surely if the courts were consistantly charging the death penalty for rape and sexual assault there would be fewer crimes of that nature. I pray the family knew Jesus, and that they are all rejoicing in heaven together.
