Honestly, anyone who has watched the Digimon anime knows there is no competition, it is way better than the Pokemon anime

Digimon is surprisingly deep. Never realized it as a kid but as I watched it as an adult it was very enyoable (but it takes some time in Digimon adventures 1). In contrast to that: I could never rewach pokemon as an adult.

I'm with Garnt on this one. I like both franchises but when it comes to the anime, Digimon was way better. Digimon, Tamers, Frontier...they all had plot.

I don’t see how Digimon is forgettable when every anime season is completely different from the past one. I think the Digimon names are harder to remember for people but the story and evolutions were a lot cooler to me in Digimon. Pokemon is a lot more basic. Idk maybe that’s just me.

I agree with Garnt, even though I was a kid Digimon felt more serious than Pokemon ever did. Its kind of like how when you're a kid you can tell anime just feels different from a normal cartoon but you can't really pinpoint what it is; Digimon felt more like an anime whereas Pokemon felt more like a cartoon.

I was BALLING while the digimon ran down the river following the kids on the boat (edit: tram car, thanks for the correction lol) as far as they could and when they couldn’t follow them anymore they stand their together waving goodbye and they’re crying and IM CRYING 😭 Also the Digimon movie is freaking awesome. It feels like two movies in one and they should’ve each been their own movie but it’s still so good and the only reason I know all the words to One Week by Bare Naked Ladies 😆

i literally watched Digimon Adventure when i were around 5-6 years old and i enjoyed it more than Pokemon due to the fact that it was dark and had a plot, just like Garnt. in fact, i'm pretty sure it's thanks to Digimon that i prefer story-driven shows over episodic shows

I never understood people who took sides when it came to Pokemon and Digimon, or Yu-Gi-Oh! and Duel Masters. I, as well as everyone else in my neighborhood, loved them all... played them all.

As anime, Digimon is far superior to Pokemon, but with games Pokemon was the superior one, but the recent Digimon Cyber Sleuth games have been better than the recent Pokemon games, and the the new Digimon Survive game coming out this year, its looking to to be another W for the Digimon franchise.

I hate the fact that when talking to a general audience you can never bring up digimon without pokemon coming up. Why must they be compared side by side anyway if you actually follow both of them they are very different stories and anime

Honestly I get what Gigguk is saying though, I certainly preferred most detailed stories in shows when I was really little but I mean I could still mindlessly laugh at and enjoy stuff too. Which is part of the reason that I loved digimon slightly more than pokemon, at least anime wise since I had no digimon games cause I didn't know they had any back then. Digimon digivolved(evolved for those that don't understand) and changed as years went on and adapted and branched out, had many successes and some duds but worked toward change. Pokemon sorta just had everything revolve around ash for years, having few short stuff with other people but always circling back to him, to the point I stopped caring about him as a kid and just wanted to see the movies for the animation and the other characters.

Digimon dealt with a lot of dark themes like domestic issues, mental illness and death Pokémon was just a run-of-the-mill Saturday morning cartoon with your monster of the week formula. I can relate way more with Digimon now that I’m an adult and I had a chance to go back and watch the first four seasons and my god the mature themes that were being shown in that series completely flew my mind as a kid.

If we're talking about anime, Digimon is far superior. DIgimon was an actual anime that had its own complete story. Pokemon anime was just marketing for the games.

When I was a kid, I watch Pokemon first and then Digimon. But Pokemon can never get me emotionally invested like Digimon did. Same goes with the video game. While I enjoy playing Pokemon Red back then, no one can beat raising Digimon from a baby to Ultimate in Digimon World 1. The File City theme itself can make you cry

Digimon is definitely a better show. The 3rd season was even better, more dark and mature than the first and second. Some effort and passion was actually there.

Digimon consistently has good content while Pokemon seems to have been on a decline in the games recently. Pokémon’s classic games were great tho. I’m a fan of both franchises

Tbf digimon is better than pokemon because it had a story and good pace. The games were hard though, but sooo good because they are based on the tamagotchi (the first world). They were both great for kids though

As Pokemon Stan, I must say, The Original Series doesn't had a story, in a traditional anime way, it was more of a cartoon, than the anime. Things become better in later sagas, but yeah, Pokemon as a whole, doesn't need the main anime style plot.

I cry every time I watch digimon season 1 or two. And yes I rewatched it as an adult multiple times. Music, atmosphere and character voices all just emit so much emotion all Effin time… and yes I also like Pokemon but only till orange league and few episode later(plus initial movies) but not as emotionally invested into it

I watched Pokemon as a kid when the first season originally aired in America. I rewatched season 1 as an adult a few years ago and I have to say that shit did not make any sense. Digimon, on the other hand, still stands up as a good show. Well, seasons 1-3. The rest suck. However, I would rather play the constant recycled garbage that is every Pokemon game any day over a Digimon game.

I appreciate that as time went on Digimon has had several different games and series (some better than others) where as Pokemon has essentially been the same for two decades.

I grew up with both the Pokemon and Digimon Anime series in the late 90s and early 2000s. Even back then, I always preferred Digimon, because, like Garnt was saying, it did have a continuing storyline, rather than an episodic format like Pokemon. As a kid, I wasn't used to that in the animated series I watched, so having a storyline which made me wonder where it was going to go was really refreshing and it had me so invested as a kid. Watching it again nowadays, it definitely wouldn't hold up as well as I remembered, but back then, it was like the best thing ever to me.

I remember as a kid actually being physically pissed when the only thing on tv was Pokemon. Like I'm pretty sure I used the word shit to refer to something was Pokemon at age 4.

Hard agree with Garnt. As a kid, I'd have fun watching pokemon and playing with my sick ass Pokemon merch, but nothing more. Meanwhile, Digimon and Beyblade kinda hit different, they had me feel things I had never experienced in TV shows before. That fucking arc in Beyblade, where it turns out that green haired kid is actually a robot replica of a kid that died, and having him struggle with it and breakdown due to sheer pressure was like Evangelion tier mindfuck to 5 year old me. There were parts in Digimon that I remember being very bleak and disturbing as a kid, and kept me coming back for more. Especially that one movie (first one I think, with the greymon story, the creepy ass virus and the beast titan) that had some nightmare fuel imagery and very tense scenes. I remember sometimes stumbling into a later episode in Digimon, seeing that edgy ass vampire guy and wondering how the fuck they got here, and having me scramble to find the episodes in between to fill me in on the plot. That just didn't happen with Pokemon.

Digimon Adventure is leagues above anything the Pokémon anime has ever made.
