This new generation Sequoia looks pretty solid and will be around for a million years again too. Seems like an attractive proposition to buy because you know your truck don't be substantially obsoleted until your little kids go to college

Paid $53k for my 2022 sr5 sequoia. I got it December 31st 2022. Probably one of the last in the nation. towing a 30ft no slide camper 5100lbs empty. I use my 2015 flex-fuel Tundra with the old reliable 5.7 liter V8 to tow my 27 foot dual axle Airstream which is 6000 lbs (CAT scale verified) and get between 10 and 11.5 mpg when towing at highway speeds, but not doing 70 mph (which is to fast towing for me). We did get less than that towing over the high altitude passes in CO. It was interesting to see the mpg on Toyota's new hybrid system delivering 10.5 mpg. I was expecting a bit higher. But FLT's trailer was 500 lbs more than my trailer which does lower the mpg a bit.
@chucklesthefireguy5356
@chucklesthefireguy5356 Год назад
Cool truck, but 10.4 MPG sucks considering the hybrid cost. They (toy) should have considered diesel. For reference, my 5.7 Tundra got 7.5-8 MPG towing 8K+LBS, but it was paid for. Making monthly payments on $80K for 10.4MPG makes this a NO-GO. Original leaks were claiming these hybrid were close to 30MPG, that would be worth the costs...

If Toyota ever wants me to buy a Sequoia: 1. It needs the Torsen full-time transfer case back. Single favorite feature in my Lexus GX. I use it to move my travel trailer around the yard and into tight campsites in 4Lo unlocked without tearing up the lawn or binding on pavement. I use it offroad in 4Lo unlocked and have never even needed locked even lifting tires. Its just a fantastic setup. It should be in the Tundra too. 2. Allow the non-hybrid iForce, get rid of the battery in the rear and improve the seats. Either that, or if you are gunna force the hybrid, at least give me generator capability so its not just a waste of weight, space and money. Otherwise I would rather just go buy a used 200 series LC, Expedition, or Tahoe with the Duramax

Really like the review - thanks. I priced up a 3.0 hybrid F-150 with some but not all options at $78,000. So close on price and as the Sequoia does all I want, functionally the same for me. So if the choice is 500 miles in a Sequoiua or an F-150 cab, I'd take the Sequoia -assuming the towing part of the experience is comparable, and it sounds that way to me. I'll squint and pretend I bought a Tundra all along :) Just seen a new Sequoia SR5 down the street from me and parked next to a Yukon really put the size in perspective.

But a Chevy Tahoe and ford expedition? I could care less about watching those drag race lol. Literally nobody buys those full size suvs for their speed. I’m down with drag races for sports cars, super cars, or super trucks cause that’s what those were built for and that’s their main appeal of those cars is their speed and 0-60 numbers.

Do you squeeze on this little levers every time you press the brake pedal while driving ?
@triedproven9908
@triedproven9908 Год назад
The levers are only in emergency or if the trailer gets out of shape you can drag the brake to straighten it out. I like the new sequoia. However, I was kinda shocked that Toyota went with a old solid rear axle. This is especially odd when they’re making you deal with a third row and that seat sits up high over the axle. An IRS would easily drop the seat height and easily provide more cargo space and headroom. Since Toyota is reliable and economically minded, I can’t figure out why they didn’t go to IRS like Ford and GM has and just about everyone else. In the Tundra, a solid axle works bc it’s a pickup. Nice looking Sequoia too. What is the opinion of TFL?
@brianb-p6586
@brianb-p6586 Год назад
It seems strange that Toyota went the opposite direction from the others, reverting to a beam axle after the others went independent, but I do see some logic. It is normal to put better suspension under the SUV; for generations at GM that meant a beam axle with leaf springs on the pickup and the same beam axle but with coil springs and control arms on the SUV as Toyota did with the first generation Sequoia and Tundra. The others (Ford, GM) now have leaf springs on the pickup and independent on the SUV, just as Toyota did with the second generation Sequoia and Tundra. Now, with coil springs and control arm on their pickup, Toyota no longer needs a different suspension for their SUV, so they can save development and production cost by using the same suspension... even though that means a downgrade from the previous generation of Sequoia. There is also an argument that a beam axle with good lateral location is better for towing, potentially handling lateral force from the hitch with less effect on vehicle dynamics.

I have a 2nd gen Sequoia (2008) with the 5.7 V8 with 242,000 miles. It is lifted 3/2 with 295/70R18s and I can get 9-10 mpg pulling my 3rd gen 4runner. In my opinion a twin turbo V6 Hybrid should do better than that!! Don't force a hybrid on me for no better towing mpgs than 10!! I'll be keeping my 2008. Don't get me wrong, I like the look of the new Sequoia but that is about it. Solid rear axle is cool but my independent rear has been trouble free and I have a 3rd row seat that will fold down flat! I think Toyota dropped the ball on this one

i have a 2017 sequoia and feel similar plus the 2023s gas tank is 4 gallons smaller. So towing range didn't increase which is one of the things I don't like about my current sequoia.

🤷🤷🤷Looking at trading my 2022 4 runner in on a sequoia. But my buddy at yota said it'll be 6 months minimum and 59k for plain sr5 version alone. 69k for limited ... that's getting pretty pricy even at 72 months.....

The fact all sequoias are starting at $58k is really a disappointment. This only comes with the hybrid I force max and not a regular twin turbo engine like the tundra has.

The sequoia can’t load up the family and tow much bc it’s payload limited. I hope people pay attention to the payload capacity
@timjohnson4290
@timjohnson4290 Год назад
Beautiful vehicle, but I agree with ChrisOllenburg - Toyota does not sell vehicles for heavy duty towing. Look at average half ton's on the market and 1315 is low. I think most RU-vid channels agree that if you go over 6,000 lbs on your trailer it is time to consider a super duty. Numbers up for payload: 10% of 6,000lb trailer = 600 lbs of payload. 15% of 6,000 trailer is 900 lbs. 15% with a travel trailer is probably close to the actual weight we would experience with the batteries, propane tanks, etc, on the tongue of the trailer. 1,315 payload - 900 lbs tongue weight, provides about 400 lbs for driver, passengers, cargo (tool boxes, BBQ, wood for campfire etc.). We sold our F150 with 1400 lbs payload since we tow our beloved 1964 6,000+ lbs Airstream trailer and her sister a 9,000lb, 34 foot Airstream. Our F250 2WD, 6.2L (3,500 lb payload) has safely towed the '64 trailer up and down the many mountain passes in CO, and other hills/mtns between GA and CO, and we average about 10MPG. Too many people get hung up on MPG while towing. IF you have an expensive diesel, my Airstream (diesel tow vehicle) friends exceed 10MPG, but most folks we talk to with gas engines in half tons and super duties get around 10MPG when towing.

@@timjohnson4290 Whats funny is I would actually argue they do sell vehicles for heavy towing. Compare the cooling system on a Tundra or Sequoia(or even a Lexus GX or 4Runner for that matter) to a Ford, GM or Ram half ton. They are huge and they still run big mechanical cooling fans like an HD truck. Toyota makes a capable truck and then neuters it with the door sticker. One of the reasons I am interested in the Tundra/Sequoia is because of that cooling system. My F150 Ecoboost overheats on climbs towing my travel trailer if its over 80F outside because the radiator in it is literally smaller than the radiator in my Lexus GX.

It would tow even better without that ridiculous hunk of ball mount. A normal ball mount of the correct drop would place the ball closer to the Sequoia's axle, for less adverse load transfer and better stability. The weight of that Gen-Y lump doesn't help, either.
