Hey friends :) May I ask a question? I'd love to know what other topics you'd like to see from me! I want to make videos about things that matter in your life, so hearing from you would be so helpful. You can DM me on IG @theKevinShen if it's easier. Thanks so much 😊
the video you did about minimalist guide to social life had this original video from november attached to it as the end screen but since its no longer available to watch it just sends you to a video not available screen,
Kevin Shen you have great content I didn’t want anyone to miss out on some quality content because of just a link... I struggled with bringing it up, but I felt it was the right thing to do and just maybe you would be okay with me telling you 😄.
People have become obsessed with the idea of having a high end career. In todays society if u are not having a job then you are worthless.. please make a video on this issue.
I agree, The algorithm has blessed me with his channel today so hopefully it is continuing work to push it to more people. The high end channels with 1mil subs don’t make videos as good as this. He’s amazing at what he does and i see this channel blowing up 100x in the next year.
I was wondering when people were going to start making a movement towards better quality connections with others. This is a good time to do so since no one is really suppose to be out. Everyone can get back in contact with friends and family and really focus on what is important even if it is via skype, facetime, calling, and just getting back in tough. This is a great video. Also hey everyone in the comments section, How are you all doing?
I AGREE! My RU-vid channel has grown into this theme and I wondered where the people who felt like me were! I'm doing pretty good. I still don't feel like there are enough hours in the day, but in a good purpose driven way.
Love the Johann Hari quote: "We without ever quite intending to have become the first humans to ever dismantle our tribes. As a result, we have been left alone on a savanna we do not understand, puzzled by our own sadness." Thanks for sharing!
Now we have to use this time to rebuild them, digitally. We have to be more intentional than ever about not just scrolling while most of us are isolating.
Kevin, I first came upon your channel because I was looking for good video backgrounds (I loved your dark blue/teal wall and now have one of my own)...little did I know that I had stumbled upon a like-minded connectionist, a friend. Thank you so much for your thoughts, your bright smile, and the way your videos brighten my day, especially during this time of social distancing. I am a public librarian and also a professional musician, and I am going to join the movement. Love, Robert
Yeah! It's so timely. The world is hungrier than ever before for connection. I think we always were, but the hunger was dulled by routine, the rat race, expectations. And now that there's more time, we feel the ache.
This is one of the most inspiring piece I have seen on youtube. Smart, deep, pro. Gee, I am so humbled and motivated. I am working on my brand... Hervé. And you just gave me a template for something that looks like me. It feels like I have been looking for this my entire life. Thanks. Connectionist. Wow.
There are so many lonely people these days despite having stable jobs, financial security, etc. I remember watching an interview on ABC news that a lot of people feel lonely even if they are surrounded by friends and family. Humans naturally need connection. Bonding and attachment start in infancy. I think it's sad that so many people want connection and try to have one, but are discouraged because negative experiences cause them to fear disappointment. People need to be kind to others, so there's hope for genuine connection. I like how you dive into discussions like this....people don't seem to talk about this very much. And trust me, I work in the field of psychology and though I hear about it because it's part of my job, I think people should just discuss things like this to build trust and deeper connection rather than superficial, transactional relationships.
this time last year, i made 'connectionism' my mantra for the year. by january however, i lost sight this goal and fell back into the cycle of hypercerebralism and overthinking. i hope that this year i can prioritize gratitude and mindfulness for myself, so that i can better my relationships with others.
Personality psychology might have an answer to understanding us. I am researcher in the field and i can tell you we have way more in common than we like to believe.
Hi Kevin. I enjoy very much your videos and ideas you put in them. I hope to learn how you plan content and how you manage your time. I have just started my youtube channel to guide Thai people on how to find work abroad. I am not very good at technical stuff, seeing your videos I know you put lots of effort making your channel. Keep doing the great work.
Hey Kevin, great Video! - It appears to me, that the problem is at the core of the human experience, but nowadays its more urgent than ever. - and it shows in the story we tell each other - when you talked about minimalism and connectionism I had to think about Jesus.. like.. He owned almost nothing but was just really into connecting with people.. So.. I don't think its necessary to believe in god or that Jesus is the son of god.. but seeing Jesus and also of course other leaders of spiritual movements seem to have these things in common and therefore it seems to be a ancient human problem.. what do we value? Things or People? -- also Erich Fromm wrote greatly about this! "To have or to be?" is the title of one of his best books ! check it out and have a great day! all the best!
Fantastic video! It's great to watch content emphasizing positivity, the positive space of what we can do to make our world more alive, more genuine, more connected; I can't take any more pandemic news and media speaking about topics that are not qualified to speak and/or write about. Thanks for providing great content. An idea for next video(s), feature stories of different tribes, worldwide or city focused i.e. LA, NYC how each communities' diversity creates and sustains unity, tradition, ceremonies; and/or Use socio-economic perspectives, from humble to more prolific. Thank you!
What a gorgeous, moving, winsome video. It communicated so well. I'm amazed by the detail of your broll and just how perfect it was. It's not hard to believe that you're spending as much time as you are on editing. (I'm here because of Eric Wen. 😁)
At times I wish someone to love me and give me a hug. To ask me If I'm afraid. True story. I'm a loner. I have an accident. Nobody to reach out. Like a turtle upside down. Don't. Don't stay alone. No matter how much a person smile. You never know what's thinking. So do the questions. Do care. Reach. I sure did.
The music you used "I've Fallen Down" reminded me of Lana Blakely's first video. That's where I discovered it. You two share a lot of similarities in terms of content too. You should definitely check her channel out :)
Hey Kevin Geez this video literally gave me goosebumps has to be seen by more people.I like the whole idea that Connectionism.I'm all in.BTW you have incredible human touch.I call it IHT hah take care man. Hello from China
Hi, how are you Kevin? a question which platform do you use for your online courses? is it expensive or difficult to use? Thanks for your high quality content :)
Duuuude! Connectionism is why I do what I do! I would love it if you would check out my video called "How previous isolations inspired me to do what I'm doing" It's literally what you are talking about here! I may change the name, but the thumbnail says "this ain't my first isolation rodeo".
Finally someone in Silicon Valley creates something about humanity, if it’s all about technology, startups, and IPOs, we all become numb robots in cubes(cubicles, offices, computer or TV screens, our phones...)
Right? We need the art, the poets, the story tellers, the people who share their hearts and dare to be vulnerable and open. I feel like the current situation with this virus is making us more aware of our humanity and our need for simple connections than ever before.
Doesn’t tech contribute to humanity? What is ur definition of “contributing to humanity?” U don’t become something for the rest of ur life just because of the environment u r in, u choose to.
@@trs_4612 definitely! Art is as varied and unique as the people who create it. And we need all the artists and all the perspectives telling their stories in their own ways.
Overall I was very intruiged by this. However, I am curious as to what you mean by "safe" interaction in the definition. I'm wary about the use of the word safe and interested to see what you mean.
Hey thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment :) Great question. I'm still learning, myself, and so I'd love to hear your thoughts too, but the context of what I mean is that I think it's important for us to have a place we can be loved no matter who we are. It's very nuanced for sure, but here speaking in the context of shame that ends up being toxic and hurting people. Hope this helps!
@@TheKevinShen Thanks for the response, I just was concerned because I feel like any meaningful conversation requires pushing that little bit beyond people's comfort zone and if you just remain within safe conversation then it's trivial and needlessly light. Obviously I agree in that nobody should be 'shamed' or 'toxic' but I also sometimes think we are too quick to attack people for 'shaming' others. Sorry if I am rambling and thank you for all you do. Proud to call myself a connectionist.
studied engineering--->startup--->failed--->software engineer---> seeking for the funds pitching ideas---> now watched your videos to embrace the extrovert personality...dude you don't know the power of what you're doing it's powerful than building PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX----> Its the another biggest real-life problem solving,---> you're a humanpreneur.
