The New Player Experience (NPE) is coming... soon... eventually... but are we ready? Here is the NUMBER ONE thing I think we need BEFORE we introduce new players to the game? You're curious, aren't you? Give a watch and comment what you think! See you in Praetoria!

Some interesting thoughts. I have always thought the game needed a free-to-play mode and agree that it in some form should be part of the player experience. I also like the ghost card idea, as many people have reported enjoying the ghost card tournaments. The only thing I could see as an off-shoot is that they would have a heavier server load with the influx of the free-to-play mode. How much, who knows, but it would be another cost variable to account for. Thanks.

it a step in the right direction.

We need SOMETHING to "try before you buy" IMHO. Getting people hooked on the game and being able to say "It's free to play" would be a GREAT slogan for the NPE!

You are correct Psilence, sadly Matt has said he does not want a free to play mode. The masses are not going to fork out 10 dollars to just try a game.

Maybe he'll reconsider, find a different solution, or already has something in mind. I'm sure he's already thought about these things, but in typical Matt fashion is keeping it secret until the last minute so that he doesn't overpromise and underdeliver.

It's a cool idea, but it's a lot more complicated (ie. coding work) than it seems, and with Matt coming out and saying they are going to need money from the DAO just to keep the developers they have, it really seems like a more simple solution is going to be the target. I'm not a big fan of letting everyone have max ghost cards to play with in any mode other than tournaments... I get you don't earn with them, but the desire to own good chunk of the cards will be very little and you would likely see the price gap between the "best" cards and the chaff get bigger. I know it's not a complete solution, but I think letting people play matches for no reward is something that should happen... like in wild, if you don't have a permit, you can still play, but you don't use energy or earn anything for those matches, modern would have to have a toggle between play 4 fun and play 2 earn. This would be a very easy change to implement, for the most part, everything would remain the same, the back end would just determine if they need to calculate and distribute rewards based on a single variable (permit/no permit or flag in modern). There is obviously more logistics in there, but it's minor stuff. Ultimately, the thing we need most for NPE is the NP part, we've been hemorrhaging players with every change and there is almost zero new players... the longer it takes to get some marketing going, the bigger the mountain we will have to climb and with the team worried about paying developers, where is the salary going to come from for a marketing person/team... the DAO may have to step in on that front as well.

Thanks for the detailed answer! I know dev time / resources are slim, so your idea to simply implement a "switch" to toggle rewards on / off would be just as good as a separate mode. "Earn Mode" vs "Play Mode". However, I still feel like "Play Mode" SHOULD allow access to all the cards in Ghost mode. I realize that this would create a bigger gap between "good" cards and "bad" cards, but I think this is just the natural way of any TCG: Good cards retain value and are sought after / expensive vs Bad cards crash hard when they leave modern and have no market.

once again what is the purpose of the rental market? are we shy'n away from the rental market? iam for it, i rather go with this idea instead of having a rental market-great idea for a proposal👍🚀🚀🚀

If you rent, you can use the rented cards to EARN based on their level. So it would take you from a non-earning account, to an earning account if you rented the cards that you play. In the "Parallel example" that would be because now you're using "real" cards, and in the "2nd play mode example" it would be because you can use those cards in the "ranked" play mode and earn with them. I think the rental market is a great feature of SPL and would allow more people to play, and encourage more pack sales since you'd have something to do with your "extra cards". Not a lot of people have $100's for a game, so being able to earn with only rentals, or even to fill in a card that you want to test before you buy are great options! Right now it is the oversupply of Chaos Legion that is messing things up as far as rental costs IMHO. That's what I'm thinkin', FELLA ;) I enjoy your vids btw!

@@thepsilence can never be too much supply, not targeting the correct fanbase could become an issue, where is the demand i would ask? not enough utility for the NFTs, why is land not a priority if that's what brought in those whales, now they're mostly extractors, iam glad you watch a few of my vids, its fun bring'n out the BOLTZ at times..🤪

@@F.I.R.E.Boltz85 I think I remember you and your bro used to flip TCG cards before SPL? I got a few of my MtG buddies into SPL and they all left because of bots, or BECAME bots themselves lol. I'll bet now that there are fewer bots SPL could get taken more seriously by the TCG community at large. I think there are more TCG players that would like this game and invest $100 here and there than super whales who would drop $10000 so agree with targeting the right fanbase. But then again, why not go for the gamers AND the cryptobros, right? Haha I love Boltz, fella! :P

The game needs pve not just pvp. Until we get a pve mode where new players can avoid plots and get immersed in the story I don’t see splinterlands growing It will take a lot of coding and work but I don’t see any other way Even free to play- you go against bots and get slaughtered or you can battle out of bronze because you are new. You don’t want new players to get frustrated too quickly

A F2P max-level experience would be good if the cost wasn't so prohibitive, maybe you'll get bites. But like.... a 5k to 100k for a max deck, that's.... a turn off. The issue of SPL is marketing to whales, instead of making it affordable and making it accessible. Should cost the same as MTG Arena /Hearthstone/Legends of Runeterra as a non-F2P player. By that I mean, the amount you have to spend for a max level competitive deck. Buying everything, no renting.

No new player will keep playing a game against bots or battle helpers. Simple as that. As long as the game allow bots and battle helpers, we will bot trainers..
