Doc Ski, Bill from Falconer Custom Rods told me I should subscribe and watch your rob building. I told Bill that I’m a retired Corpsman and he said “you are the industry standard”. Thank you for the training.

Great job jim........I don't think I'll ever build a rod, but watching you wrap this one was very enlightening. Very time consuming but well worth it in the end when you see the finnished progress. Once again great job and you are now officially a TEACHER.

Great video. I been searching all over RU-vid for trim band videos that are easy to understand and yours by far is the best and cleanest finish out of all the ones I have watched. Even the most simple, as long as clearly explained is so very important in this hobby and I thank you much for teaching me. My girlfriend appreciates it also as she is building rods with me. You made my rod building experience so much more easier for me to understand.

This is great! My son and I will be working on a number of rods this winter. I'm going to try this on one, or several of them. I'll also see if some of the veterans I'll be volunteering help build their rods are interested in doing this.

This is how i do this and trim bands too. The only thing i don't like so much is how it creates that straight line diagonal from all the thread switching. Most of the time it's not so obvious, but depending on the colors used, that line sometimes becomes visible along with all the thread trapped underneath. really like your attitude and outlook on passing along info and that sort of thing. At the end of the day, there are very few original ideas out there but there are too many people who hold info like it's a big personal secret. It's like that with fishing locations in real life and in online forums too. I can't stand people who talk about fishing spots like big secrets and black out backgrounds in photos as though they're the first and only person to ever fish there.
@docski377
@docski377 4 года назад
I know what you are saying about keeping secrets. Hopefully that attitude is changing. I know for me I just want to help where I can. I also know what you are saying about the dirty side of these types of wraps. I try to keep them straight and close but sometimes it is better to let it slant than to mess up the pattern. Packing and Rolling often help hide things..

my buddy used to do this back in the 70's when he was out of astro thread.
@docski377
@docski377 6 лет назад
Yes, many of us did I would bet. I never thought to twist it in the opposite direction though, always to the left which is easy because it is the same as the twist in the thread itself.
@TUNADOG2GO
@TUNADOG2GO 6 лет назад
it was my buddy danny at dana ait and tackle. he couldn't wrap worth a damn , but he came up with the coolest ideas. I was showing how to wrap rods and we ran out of blue astro thread. he figured out it was just twisted thread. took blue 1 and silver a , made atsro.

What is the best method for trimming the end of the inlay threads at the beginning of the wrap so that no contrasting colored fuzz or thread fibers are visible?
@docski377
@docski377 6 лет назад
My trick is first use a VERY sharp Wilkinsen thin razor blade. I pull up on the thread hard enough to create a little gap, then let it back down. Next I lay the razor blade on the wrap right where the tag end comes out. Lift the tag thread again and drag it over the blade. Since you created a gap you should be able to burnish over it.

Hello Jim, Please let me know what you did with the beginning tag ends. Do I cut them off as close as I can? You do not show how to deal with the beginning tag ends. Thanks for your help.
@docski377
@docski377 8 лет назад
+Deborah Drake Sorry to be slow in answering, I dont always look in this section.. The tag ends are not always predictable so I pretty much deal with them on the fly or as each wrap finishes. The important thing is to keep them on the back or the work just in case it doesnt seem smooth or even.
