That's cuz it's realistic imo, when I genuinely get scared or jumpscared I'll 100% either flinch or jump, but there'll rarely be a vocal reaction, so when Charlie has no facecam, there'll obviously be no visual reaction or indication he was scared lol

as someone who shared a car for the longest time, it never gets easier turning on the car and getting rattled from the radio turning on automatically because it wasn't turned off by the last person. the louder the last person left it the more you're allowed to yell at them when you see them next.

The developers put more effort into trying to actually terrify the player because of their low budget im guessing. 50 thousand dollars games with a hundred developers and they can only think of make it as gory as possible, there's like 7 games based in some kind of mental hospital. It a joke they can't manage to actually surprise anyone because they always make it quieter before they have something try and scare you, I can't stand modern movies today because I can almost always guess when something meant to be surprising is about to happen.

It's not a proper psychological horror/terror, but a purely physical one. If anything is coming at you really fast, then your body/brain is gonna react and try to avoid/dodge it and the result is that you are startled. Although, I think you would not get as startled if you were ambushed by say Pikachu or Jigglypuff as opposed to something that looks scary. I've heard that Silent Hill tries to avoid the whole jumpscare thing, but tries to creep you out in a more calmer and dare I say deeper way.
the jumpscares that are over before you even have the time to register that something is happening and get scared from it are always the hardest hitting ones.
Like she calls you without warning, when you get the Happy Kids’ Meal box it should say “WARNING: Purchasing of this box results in the following; bursting eardrums, loss of appetite, trouble breathing from how scared shitless you were and a mild headache every time you’re mom arrives home with the food and says “HEY BITCH LOOK WHAT I GOT. IF YOU DONT LOOK AT IT IM GONNA CRY AND SCREAM MY ASS OFF TO GET YOUR ATTENTION.”
Funniest jump scare I’ve seen… The horrible T-pose flying towards the screen, Charlie instantly pausing the game completely quiet and then reveals he got spooked is just hilarious.
