Another resource I discovered. More geared for the technically minded, so may be of limited use to the lay person.

As a parish sacristan and liturgical adviser for my parish Priest, I rely heavily on the Ordo. As an aside, I purchased a copy of Christian Prayer yesterday and plan to start praying the Office starting with Compline tonight. Your series and a brief primer on the Office from my pastor have set a solid foundation or my foray into the LOTH. I intend to work my way up to the full 4 book set. I think a year using Christian Prayer for Lauds, Vespers, and Compline (while sprinkling in the abridged Matins, Terce, Sext, and None in CP) should get me ready for the full Office.

Thank you for your kind words! It's been almost two years since I posted those videos and I forget about them until a comment comes through. It brings me joy knowing that they are still helping people!

My diocese transfers the Ascension of The Lord to the 7th Sunday of Easter, I do not like that it is transferred to a Sunday, when I pray the Liturgy of The Hours, am aloud to pray the office of the Ascension on Thursday , or am I required to do it on the day that diocese transferred it to?

I feel that anyone can pray any way they choose.... But if you are a strict follower of the "rules", the solemnity *has* been moved in accordance to the bishop, who holds that authority through apostolic succession. The St. Joseph Guide to the LOTH also has a boxed section on page 19 covering this as it states: "Where the Ascension is not to be observed as a holyday of obligation it is assigned to the 7th Sunday of Easter. The specified rubrics below are to be followed until Monday of the 7th week of Easter." It then goes on to list the rubrics for Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun under that situation. So I guess what I'm saying is that.. you *can* celebrate the Ascension on Thursday with the LOTH, but you *should* follow the LOTH guidelines (as per the St. Joseph Guide) which in this case moves the solemnity to Sunday with appropriate variations in verse/reading/responsory and Evening Prayer for the latter part of the week.

Christopher McNicholas ok, even though I do like following the rules, I think I might pray the LOTH for the Ascension on Thursday as a form of protest is I strongly disagree with any feast being transferred to a Sunday.

I have a question about the Liturgy of the Hours, on Holy Saturday, is evening prayer done only if you don't participate in the Easter Vigil?
@cmcnicholas

On Holy Saturday, Evening Prayer *is* done. It is actually laid out in full in the Proper of Seasons (pages 509-514 vol II). There is no *Night* Prayer however if you attend the Vigil Mass. And if you attended the Vigil Mass, Sunday morning's Office of Readings is also dropped.

Thank you for clarifying, I did know about Night prayer and, and the Sunday office of readings, I just wasn’t sure about Evening prayer for Holy Saturday.

Hi Chris. I know this is an old video, but I hope you can help me. I've watched all your videos on LotH. I have the same books as what you are using in the videos. I just got them as a matter of fact. I have all my ribbons placed correctly, but I just can't seem to find where to find the Hymn of the day. Also, I do listen to the podcast Divine Office on Podbean which each hour is also written out. Several of my sources for the hours and all are different. I follow the "Saint Joseph Guide" for the day, but where are the hymns? I do see hymns but which one do I use. During Lent, they are at the front of the book? Is that right? But which one do I use?? I'm so sorry, but I'm so confused.

Good evening! The hymns for morning and evening prayers are in the psalter for each day with the option to use the Lenten ones in the front as you found. Daytime hymns are found in the Ordinary broken up into the three daytime sections; you can pick any one you like. Overall, ANY hymn is generally acceptable... unlike the psalms and readings, the particular hymns are not specified.. so they will vary between apps and websites and books.

@@cmcnicholas Thank you so much for your quick response. So, in the section after the Invitatory in the Office of Readings where is says "Hymn", I should just choose a hymn from the front? Or go to Saturday Week III? Goodness, lol I will get this eventually.

@@thedisconnectedwife4165 yes, you got it! Since you said you have the 4 book set; tomorrow morning I perform my office of readings as soon as I get up. I will use either the hymn on page 1491 or any one of the 3 on pages 40-43.
