I was lucky enough to see them in a club on the Vulgar tour before they exploded , talk about a sick show. Their was probably less than 1000 people inside but it was packed , then I saw them on every tour that came near me including all the Ozzfest's. The last time was their Reinventing the Steel tour with Slayer and Static X , I think that was around 2000-2001. Another sick show and sadly the last time I saw them , what's touring now is an insult. I would never pay to see this garbage!!!

@@TakeMeOnTour Yeah it was them , Slayer and Static X on that last tour , at least it was when it came to my state. It was a killer show , then when I saw Slayer's farewell tour in 2019 , Phil and the illegals opened up and played all Pantera songs , Primus and Ministry were also on the bill. We had pit tickets , no better way to see Slayer go out than being in the pit , although my moshing days are over. @@TakeMeOnTour I got to see them on the Vulgar tour and also the final tour - while hoping it wasn't going to be the final tour! Each time in the same 1800 cap venue, down the front screaming along and being amazed watching them play...also got to shout "no way punk" during Walk before the solo as each time when Phil threw the mic into the crowd at that part it always landed either in my hand or near enough to grab it and pull it towards me so I could do so!

Because he knew the brothers couldn't stand him anymore and he would have never done this if Vinnie was still alive. For the people who say Phil was just as big a part of the band that's bullshit , sure he contributed but Dime wrote a lot of the material and without his riffs they wouldn't have been as successful. Plus they could have plugged in the singer from Damage Plan and used him for a reunion if the brothers wanted that back then. Saw Pantera a couple times, for me personally, it can never be Pantera without Dimes and Vinnie, the 2 guys that started the band and the only 2 OG members that were in the band. Vinnie was also totally against it happening. If people are happy enough to pay to go see the tribute act that they are, fair play to them, I won't. I also don't buy the "people want to hear the songs live that never got the chance" - there's plenty of bands I never got to see live, the chance to see them has gone and i'm ok with that.
@TakeMeOnTour

Very true. I know other bands like AIC have moved forward with different member but this difference to me here, is that Vinnie said over and over and over again that this shouldn't happen and everyone knows Pantera was Vinnie and Dime. They are the masterminds behind the magic that was Pantera.

@@TakeMeOnTour I disagree with the last part. Rex was with them all along and they were just a really well known bar band before Phil joined. The world wouldn't know PANTERA without Phil, but this cash grab is tarnishing the legacy of PANTERA, in my opinion. They should have used a song name or something, like Sabbath did with Dio after the Ozzy reunion. I've always been team Phil, but I lost a lot of respect for him because of this, not that he cares, but I've been a fan since the 90s that's been to multiple shows and meet and greets over the years and bought every record he's released, but he'll get no more of my money. I'm pretty much done with the music industry as a whole, because of their greed. I've been a fan of Pantera since Cowboys was released, me+my friends were all over that album listening to it constantly, I saw Pantera live a few times, met and hung out with Dimes, Rex and Vinnie a couple times (Phil was always absent as soon as they went offstage) and had some fun times in their company, but this isn't Pantera, to me, it's Phil doing a cashgrab and trading on misty eyes and rose-tinted glasses and the Abbot brother's names.

I get where you guys are coming from. My only thing is that people who think this version of pantera is a cash grab or whatever, i understand that. but it kinda discounts the contribution that Phil and Rex made to that band. They are literally half the band, Rex was there from the beginning. I often think what if dime and vinny were still alive and toured as pantera without phil and rex, people would probably feel the same about that version of pantera too, there would be haters and lovers. either way, at least its vinnies and dimes best friends playing their part now. i dunno if vinny or dime would approve but im glad that their estates have approved it and are getting their share from it. i think people took what Vinnie said the wrong way. he was saying you can’t just toss someone else in the band it would be the same band. Vinnie loved Kiss did vinnie hate kiss because it wasn’t the OG lineup? nope. what Vinnie was saying was the band won’t be the same because without Dime it can’t be the same. IF vinnie was alive and everyone else wanted to do a tribute show like they are doing now i guarantee with zakk on guitar he would sign off on it. he may not have signed up to do it but who knows we are talking hypotheticals but to take that quote and apply it to a tribute band isn’t the same thing. he was clearly talking about people forcing pantera to get back together without dime tour and make more cd’s. even dime said when he was alive why they didn’t continue as pantera without the others in the band dime had respect for the og lineup and said pantera IS me my brother, rex and phill. had vinnie died and dime lived he would have said the same thing you can’t just toss someone else in that position an call it the same band because it’s not. had someone wanted to do a tribute show i bet he would be on board for that. i personally went to a Pantera show honestly im not a big pantera fan i did like dime and his style but at the show phill ask who here saw us back in the day and half the audience raised their hands and he ask who here this is your first time seeing us live and the other half raised their hands. he saids that’s why we are doing this to bring this kind of music to newer generations and to show tribute to the music vinnie and dime gave this world. you can clearly tell they are doing this for the right reasons rather someone agrees with it or not. new metal heads are born at these shows. kids are taking guitar lessons because of these shows or videos they see on RU-vid. the torch is being passed on and that is something vinnie and dime would love to see and would love to see done in the name of their band. if you can support static X who is even releasing “new music” and not have a single issue with any of that i don’t see why you can’t support what the guys over at Pantera are doing. i agree don’t look at it as the “band is back” but look at it as a tribute show maybe that will help..

They calling themselves Pantera and not "A Celebration of Pantera" or something like that. They know what they're doing and they know they wouldn't be getting paid the same if it were billed as a tribute. I see what you mean about Static-X and I wasn't about it either until I saw Tony Campos explain the situation. They wanted to make the band work with Wayne for years but Wayne was on too many drugs and too far gone to cooperate with. Even on the new album they used some of Wayne's old vocals. Either way, I try my best to let people enjoy this lineup for what it is. This is just how I feel about it. Thanks for checking out the video and discussion.

There's no comparison between the two , Static X was nowhere near the same level as Pantera was. They were an opening band not a stadium filling headliner , I was a fan of theirs and liked the first 2 albums but lost interest after that. But your comparison is apples and oranges...

I totally understand Vinnies point of view, I will still be going to download festival this year to see the Pantera tribute tho, it isn't the real Pantera and everyone knows it, but those songs should be blasted to thousands of people in a field, I'm sure that's what the brothers would have wanted, it's a celebration of the music, not a reunion, and it's as close as we're all going to get to the pantera we can't have

It's fact that the abbot brothers were the ones responsible for creating Pantera! Now with both gone rip there is no Pantera! Sorry to Rex he was always professional and quiet through all the drama. But the bad blood from the brothers and Phil were very real.... truth is if Phil's other projects would of been worth anything he would still be doing that, same for Zack! People will be divided into different camps on this band line up with Charlie and Zakk being called Pantera for a long time. Truth be told, This is not what Vinny would ever have authorized. Vinny has been on record about how there can be no reunion. Pantera WAS Dime, Vinny, Rex, and Phill, but Phill walked out and ghosted Pantera and Rex went with Phill. Thats how the band broke up. Nuff said. Any hopes of a Pantera reunion died when Dime was murdered. What Vinny has been saying for years, "There can be no Pantera without Dime" was true then and its still true now. But in the end those who catch the shows will hear some heavy ass killer rock n roll, while the Pantera estate owners, the band members, and the music industry make millions and millions of dollars off the Pantera name.

I'm pretty sure the Pantera tour is just a celebration tour, it's no reunion despite them going under the Pantera name on the bills etc. Zakk Wylde calls it the Pantera celebrations on his instagram posts, and Down is returning hopefully in 2024 with new music coming out. Rex Brown has a second solo record coming for ages but never officially released but i'd guess the planning for this tour began in 2019/2020 at around the same time he began teasing it on his social media bio. So i don't think they will continue doing the touring for another year. And Zakk has started his own festival so they will all return to their main projects, as far as things have been announced so far but i can see the timing of it all as Phil started performing Pantera with the illegals starting in 2018. But in my opinion it's great to hear these songs live, as long as they don't write music under the Pantera name and that it remains a celebration tour. It seems like a pretty split topic for many fans and in the community of metal.

I’m old and from Texas. Knew about Pantera as a club band in Dallas during their “glam” years and then their transition to heavy metal after Phil joined with releasing Power Metal. Was never a huge huge fan, but many of my friends were (I couldn’t get past the whole glam rock turned metal thing to really enjoy them like my friends did). I am a fan of Phil’s other bands post Pantera (especially SJR). This band is not Pantera. This is just like Phil and the Illegals playing a set of Pantera tunes. This is a completely different band and should’ve toured as a different name (BandX featuring Phil and Rex with special guests Zakk and Charlie performing original Pantera Music). Them touring as Pantera is as absurd as Sepultura still existing - not even considering the whole thing about an original member being murdered after the band dissolved. In that respect of Dime’s murder, Pantera was laid to rest fully with that tragedy. In those circumstances, there can be original members reuniting for memorial concerts and even this current tour, but under a different name. To see some of the big names in the metal industry not calling this out for what it is, is very disappointing.

The only people that have an issue with this celebration of Pantera tour are the people still hung up on *bullshit break up drama that was blown WAY out of proportion two decades ago to get clicks & sell magazines.* Whenever I hear Pantera fans mentioning VH1s bullshit BTM episode on Pantera I immediately know they are misinformed fans believing pure fiction. That was a horrendous, extremely biased bullshit episode that conveniently omitted key facts for ratings & I've watched the revisionist history around the band flourish since that crap show in 2006. Everyone that's actually been paying attention knows Pantera would have reunited years ago if not for December 8th. We now know DAMAGEPLAN was actually gonna break up. Vince was not against playing Pantera songs without his brother as he did play Pantera songs numerous times without his brother. All 3 surviving members played Pantera songs in their newer bands. The really frustrating part is the way the fans that are OBSESSED with Pantera drama frame this whole situation. The guys were waiting for Vince, who obviously had PTSD, to come around. It's not that they waited for Vince to die to do this (they could have done it sooner), its that once Vince passed there is *no longer a reason to wait around for a deceased drummer.* its literally that simple. Clearly Vince wanted his very selfish fan base to STFU about Pantera. Even Rita Haney stated that this fan base made things worse in Vince. "Theres no bad blood with my former Pantera bandmates" - Vinnie Paul.

They only have a few remaining founding members too. Or Anthrax? Or Sepultura? It's like come on dude, yes , everyone is right, it's not Pantera with the Abbott brothers but, I mean come on. Everyone for the most part loves Pantera and the music that kept metal alive thru the 90's so we were able to have the metal that we have today. A long with Slayer and the cavalara brothers, Anthrax, and so many more bands. The only thing is Pantera had a tragedy happen and it was horrible. I mean damn, the Abbott family gave the ok to let it happen or we wouldn't be hearing it. But, seriously, the media is a huge part of what happened to Pantera and look, people are still doing it in 2023/2024. It's just really getting old. Everyone's opinion is that they shouldn't be doing this but, yet, in turn people are making videos and talking about it to get views. No worries tho, most people won't be like Pantera with the Abbott brothers and most people won't create music as impactful and big as they once were. Either way, I will jam out when I can and I will see these guys play live just so I can remember what it was like when I seen the Abbott brothers years ago and relive those memories. That's why I put "reunion" in quotations in the thumbnail but I should probably do the same for the title of the video. I stand by the fact that it's not a reunion. The main reason this is different is solely because the way it all played out. Phil didn't care about Pantera in 2001 but now he does? He left them high and dry and instead of them replacing him, they started another band called Damageplan. Phil and Rex could've done the same but they knew it would do nothing and they'd be playing clubs to 500 people if they're lucky. It's all about money and what will sell tickets and it's obvious. For the same obvious reason that they didn't choose to go by a different name. It doesn't hold the value they want it to. Vinnie said it until the day he died that there should be no reunion and for good reason. Then Phil makes his move as soon as Vinnie isn't in the way anymore. Come on, man.....

Yeah and let's not forget that Zakk wouldn't even take the time to learn the songs properly. He even said it himself. Just went up there and winged it instead of paying tribute to Dime's creativity and guitar playing.

They can do what they wanna do. Cry babies will always be cry babies you will never get rid of them. Especially if they have there own pod cast to make the crying go world wide.

I think it's dumb as can be it's not Pantera a tribute band at best. I for one think Vin especially and Dime are rolling hard in the grave. Pantera was there's not Phil's he can after a long haul. That band was those brothers life and its sick it's just a cash cow for the vultures
